    I knew we'd miss some things! So I'll list a few of them here. (Thanks so much for the comments)
    Related to names:
    1. Hiryu is Rathalos' TITLE in Japanese, not name.
    2. Glavenus not only gets its name from a glave, but also gladios is 'sword' in Latin.
    3. Diablos references more than just Diablo, but it also comes from "Two Horns."
    4. Odogaron also pulls its name from Garou, French for Werewolf.
    5. Also, (insert pronunciation here) at least I called that one. 😜
    Goofs:
    1. Lavasioth came long before Jyuratodus, not the other way around. Though "the time a franchise adds a character" doesn't dictate its evolution (see Galarian Zigzagoon) I don't know enough about MonHun lore to justify this one at all. 😅 "Think of it like Crocodiles and Alligators" one commenter put it. I think that explains the error perfectly.
    2. "Black Diablos are female diablos" is correct, but not as correct as it could be. The females turn black when in heat.
    3. Brachy uses a slime mold it cultivates for its explosives, not its spit.

    • @espada7997
      @espada7997 3 года назад +26

      Yeah in case y’all are wondering rathalos’s Japanese name is leioleus which is supposed to mean “lion king” since he’s the king of the skies.

    Here to point out that lavisioth, plesioth, and beotodus are not jyratodus subspecies, that black diablos is a normal female in heat, that Brachy's spit is not explosive, it's a special slime mold they cover themselves in that can only survive on them , and their spit makes it grow faster (and also that his name can also be interpreted as arm god), that Glavenus is pronounced Glav-en-us, and Zinogre is pronounced... well, zin-ogre.

    basically, most times your translation ends up as "(BLANK) dragon" or something along those lines with no real change to the words to make it a name, you didn't get the name, you got the title. the "change to the words" part meaning that you got alatreon and tobi right, for example.

  • @Rosario0X

    Through watching this, I think gnoggin is confused about subspecies and variants in monster hunter.
    Subspecies (and Rare species) are a different take on monsters where their colors, element and habitat change as well their behavior however that doesn't apply to older gen monsters such as rathalos/rathian and Diablos since back then it was just a color swap and added moveset (Rare species are a one up from subspecies).
    Variants are an amped up version of a monster that increases their design philosophy making it much more apparent than their normal version for example Ruiner Nergigante has much tougher spikes than the normal one.
    The naming for subspecies, rare species and variants are all the same way with adding a title or a color before the monsters name, that's why Lavasioth isn't a subspecies of Jyuratodus as you thought because both monsters are completely different even tho they share the same skeleton and type of species.

    Edit: You can find out some of the names' real pronunciations in the game's cutscenes
    Edit 2: According to "Monster Hunter Generations Localization Notes Part 5" in Capcom-Unity, Glavenus got his name from gladius (Latin for sword), fervens (Latin for burning) and the "-saurus" suffix used in plenty of dinosaur names. So you got the explanation completely wrong there but nice try nonetheless.

    • @keimasilver
      @keimasilver 3 года назад +11

      Dire means a sign of disaster or someting extremely urgent. Miralis is likely from the Japanese word "mirai" meaning future and Fatalis to draw a connection between the two species. So it would literally be "a sign of future disasters similar to Fatalis".
      Ahtal-Ka is a bit more difficult but I think it's a corruption of athal and ka. Athal is an Old Saxon prefix which means noble. Ka is Egyptian and refers to the spiritual part of a person or god that survives after death alongside the soul and could reside in a statue of the person, possibly a reference to how it resides in Ahtal Nesto and controls it as if it was its own body. So put together Ahtal-Ka would mean something like "Noble Egyptian Spirit".

    There's a lot of misuse/pronunciations of the Japanese names in here. I'm really complaining, mostly saying that some of the meanings you got were pretty off base. A couple notable ones being Diablos and Fatalis. Diablos gets the Di from it's two horns because it is very similar to another older gen monster Monoblos. While the assessment wasn't completely wrong, that part is kinda important. Fatalis' Japanese name however, Miraboreus, (someone can correct me if I'm wrong here) starts with the suffix Mira, most likely derived from the Japanese word for future: Mirai. This is presumably why the English name has to do with fate. Good video still, would totally love to see more Monster Hunter stuff.

    Nami means wave, and a common name for anything related to the ocean. So alongside your explanations, it's name could literally mean "abyssal wave" or "abyssal ocean". Physically, it's a draconic jellyfish, and bioluminescent jellyfish with pulsing lights are commonly found the the deep ocean, hence the abyss.

    Something to note:
    yian garuga is heavily implied (im not sure if its ever been confirmed) to be the product of a Yian-Kutku and a Rathian breeding. They are very aggresive and take design elements from both monsters (most notably the body form of Kutku and the tail+poison of rathian):
    That could be a big reason behind the similar naming scheme

    • @emperortethysusdacertified8175
      @emperortethysusdacertified8175 Год назад +1

      INCORRECT. Yian Garuga is a closely related cousin of the Kut-Ku. Seperate species, not a hybrid.
      The whole hybrid thing is a fan theory/joke from way, way back in the day.

    I just HATE that Lockstin is getting most of the lore of Monster Hunter WRONG! THESE creatures ARE NOT dragons!!! They are WYVERNS. The devs SPECIFICALLY wanted to emphasize that the monsters of Monster Hunter are wyverns, as in almost every other game, they came across dragons and thus wanted to make their monsters stand out.
    And the pronunciation!!! Did he actually play the games!?!?

    • @arcticdino1650
      @arcticdino1650 3 года назад +3

      The wyverns not dragons thing is a bit nitpicky, because the real life meaning of this word is a dragon.

    • @hanakowolf578
      @hanakowolf578 3 года назад +3

      Sorry for being nitpicky. But you can look up what the devs stated. With dragons, there's just not much you can do with them. With the wyverns, you can change there style, and place them in various categories. Most dragons are wyverns, but every wyvern is not a dragon.
