@@cosmicdunsparce To the main series yes, but technically Lavasioth made his first appearance in Frontier, the MMO. He's one of 2 monsters that came from frontier
I knew we'd miss some things! So I'll list a few of them here. (Thanks so much for the comments) Related to names: 1. Hiryu is Rathalos' TITLE in Japanese, not name. 2. Glavenus not only gets its name from a glave, but also gladios is 'sword' in Latin. 3. Diablos references more than just Diablo, but it also comes from "Two Horns." 4. Odogaron also pulls its name from Garou, French for Werewolf. 5. Also, (insert pronunciation here) at least I called that one. 😜 Goofs: 1. Lavasioth came long before Jyuratodus, not the other way around. I think that explains the error perfectly. 2. "Black Diablos are female diablos" is correct, but not as correct as it could be. The females turn black when in heat. 3. Brachy uses a slime mold it cultivates for its explosives, not its spit.
Yeah in case y’all are wondering rathalos’s Japanese name is leioleus which is supposed to mean “lion king” since he’s the king of the skies. Ooh also something else I noticed that you missed. Velkhana’s Japanese name “iverukana” just means “ice curse” in japanese
Will you be doing any other MH videos on the future? I think it's a franchise you can dive deep into like theories an explanation videos like you do the Pokemon series
Here to point out that lavisioth, plesioth, and beotodus are not jyratodus subspecies, that black diablos is a normal female in heat, that Brachy's spit is not explosive, it's a special slime mold they cover themselves in that can only survive on them , and their spit makes it grow faster (and also that his name can also be interpreted as arm god), that Glavenus is pronounced Glav-en-us, and Zinogre is pronounced... well, zin-ogre.
YEAH MONSTER HUNTER!! I hope you do more MH videos in the future! Also.. I pronounce it Ty-grex too, but in game they pronounce it "Tee-grex." It's awful.
It's Tee-grex I guess because it's a combination of Tigre (the french word for Tiger pronouced Tee-gu-re) and T-rex, Tigre + rex = Tigrex with the french pronounciation. Tee-grex. (being french myself this pronnounce doesn't bother me at all.)
Black diablos aren't just female diablos. they're specifically females in heat, that's why they don't get their own name (besides just adding black) unlike rathian
@@frostdragonheart2500 i would say because a black diablos is way more aggressiv and Harder to kill than a normal diabolos which lorewise would indicate that you might need a better Hunter for it.

8:06 I’d also add that, when compared to Monoblos, Diablos’s name could potentially refer to di- , or “two” horns, while Monoblos’s name refers to its one horn, or “mono”
5:32 correction. Lavasioth is not a subspecies of Jyuratodus, nor is Beotodus, or Plesioth. They are all separate species that are very closely related. Think of it like Crocodiles and Alligators
the "simple" names for monsters in japanese aren't actually their names, they are their titles. you confused a few of these such as barroth, lavasioth and rathalos. basically, most times your translation ends up as "(BLANK) dragon" or something along those lines with no real change to the words to make it a name, you didn't get the name, you got the title. the "change to the words" part meaning that you got alatreon and tobi right, for example.
The firt thing i thought when i heard "Namielle" was tsuNAMI and the elle is an angel like name (such as gabriel, raphael, and michael). In conclusion, a water angel.
Calling Lavasioth a subspecies of Jyuratodus. Like I get that it's origin is a bit confusing because it was introduced in Frontier, but to then immediately talk about Plesioth just hurts EDIT: (24:44) calling a Yian Kut-Ku "Kutu" somehow hurts more
@@tankhonghong706 I mean, that's like... the one he actually said RIGHT without missing a beat. Because it riffs directly on the (explosively) dying star Betelgeuse. Which a certain 1988 film belabors to remind us is pronounced as if "Beetle Juice."
And Leshen, when he pronounced it as Le'shen, when it should be pronounced closer to Lesson with the second S replaced with an H. and mispronounced Geralt too.
(I'm paraphrasing here->) "The Yian Garuga could be related to the Yian Kut-ku" No one tell him that Yian Garuga's are the child of a Rathian and a Yian Kut-Ku
Also fits since Orugaron from frontier. Fanged beasts which are a pair of monster wolves. Except without the massive infestation of thunder fleas like Zinogre.
Who knows. Vel-khana Khana is close to the word Kana wich is Finnish for Chicken and Vel is close to the word Veli wich Means Brother in Finnish So you could say that the name means "Brother Chicken" wich makes no sense considring Chickens are Female and Roosters are male. Also Velkhana doesent look like a Chicken. See? It could mean anything if you twist it.
You can tell that Lockstin has only played Monster Hunter World by the fact that messes up some of the lore and the pronunciation of monster names. Spoken like a true Fiver.
@@blaydon4291 I guess a more correct phrasing would have been "you can tell that Lockstin isn't huge into the series and is only getting into it now because Hey Jay! is receiving a ton of subs and views from his recent MH videos" lol. Nah jk I love Lockstin, and obviously not everyone gets into the same series, or some take longer than others. I love seeing noobs fall in love with the franchises I love. I just wish he wouldn't dip his toes in franchises he knows next to nothing about, and gained the knowledge from extensive research and playing the games himself before making a video like this. I've never seen him post a video with this many straight up errors before.
Ah, it's like being a grizzled old world hunter watching and listening to one of the new world researchers talking about monsters they've heard about from other hunters. Its not so much annoying as it is kind of endearing.
Through watching this, I think gnoggin is confused about subspecies and variants in monster hunter. Subspecies (and Rare species) are a different take on monsters where their colors, element and habitat change as well their behavior however that doesn't apply to older gen monsters such as rathalos/rathian and Diablos since back then it was just a color swap and added moveset (Rare species are a one up from subspecies). Variants are an amped up version of a monster that increases their design philosophy making it much more apparent than their normal version for example Ruiner Nergigante has much tougher spikes than the normal one. The naming for subspecies, rare species and variants are all the same way with adding a title or a color before the monsters name, that's why Lavasioth isn't a subspecies of Jyuratodus as you thought because both monsters are completely different even tho they share the same skeleton and type of species.
0:28 "I'm gonna mispronounce so many of these today, I'm sorry." Well if you say so, I'll might as well forgive you. Edit: You can find out some of the names' real pronunciations in the game's cutscenes Edit 2: According to "Monster Hunter Generations Localization Notes Part 5" in Capcom-Unity, Glavenus got his name from gladius (Latin for sword), fervens (Latin for burning) and the "-saurus" suffix used in plenty of dinosaur names. So you got the explanation completely wrong there but nice try nonetheless.
I'll do you one better, every single diablos is female, the male equivalent, just like rathalos and rathian, has a different name and appearance, being called monoblos since it has, well, one horn, instead of two
@@BlimpBlomp Actually those are two completly different but cimilar species. There are male diablos. It's just very hard to tell them apart. Blood bath is confirmed to be male though. Black biablos are all female as they are in heat not because they are a dimorfisum. The same is true for monoblos through they don't have a cool variant that is distinctly male to my knowledge.
@@dranoradragonqueen1494 though bloodbath is a singular male Diablos, it’s a deviant. Not a sub or the full species, it’s one hyper powerful individual

I like to think that the “Safi” in “Safi’Jiva” could also be short for “Sapphire” as in relation to the Sapphire Star the commision ingame idolizes. It’s ultimate, party wiping move is called “Sapphire Star of the Emperor” so I think it makes sense
... Did he just Brachydios has small arms?! No! Brachy was specifically designed to be different from other brute wyverns to have big arms ment for attacking, not T Rex like ones like on Barroth or Deviljho. Please do at least a little bit of research on MH before you do a video on Gnoggin, I know you're trying to expand your content from not solely being Pokemon, but still man, you gotta do the research.
Well if you actually look closely he kinda does have surprisingly small arms for his size. Those things that look like his fists are actually more like his oversized punching gloves/plates. The arm it's self is a bit on the wimpy side it's just his glove/plate is blocking it most of the time, so you don't notice it very easily. I watched rage gaming to make that discovery.
No Brachy does have tiny claw arms underneath his distinctive pounders so yes technically this guy is right here. The pounders are implied to be something different that are simply utilized by his arm muscles.
@@songbird6414 Imo that's like saying that your skin isn't part of your arm. If they were something that Brachydios just picked up and started swinging around it'd be a different story, but big, thick scales are still part of the Monster.
I love how everyone calls Odogaron clifford when its anatomy is more reminiscent of weasels and polecats(even it's "roar" sounds more like a weasel chattering than a dog's bark)
Odogaron is not based on a weasel or the Kamaitachi yokai. The Monster Hunter World art book depicts Odogaron’s early design as a hyena-like monster. One even shows a more dog-like one with fur. The Great Izuchi from MH Rise is based on the Kamaitachi...
23:17 The saliva isn't explosive, it covers it's arms in explosive mold, and uses it's saliva to prime the moss to explode when it punches something as it's shell makes the mold less explosive, and when it comes off the shell during the punch, the saliva and the impact cause the moss to explode.
7:56- Fun fact: In polish translation of Monster Hunter World Black Diablos got renamed into Black Diabla. Diabla is a word deriving from Slovak language which means "Devil". Also Diabla having "-a" at the end fits to fact that lots of polish girl names ends with letter "-a". Rathian got renamed as well, but she only got "-a" added to her name so audience can tell that she is a girl.
You should do something like this for the monsters that weren’t in World and Iceborne. I would be interested of hearing what the names like Dire Miralis or AHTAL-KA mean!
Dire means a sign of disaster or someting extremely urgent. Miralis is likely from the Japanese word "mirai" meaning future and Fatalis to draw a connection between the two species. So it would literally be "a sign of future disasters similar to Fatalis". Ahtal-Ka is a bit more difficult but I think it's a corruption of athal and ka. Athal is an Old Saxon prefix which means noble. Ka is Egyptian and refers to the spiritual part of a person or god that survives after death alongside the soul and could reside in a statue of the person, possibly a reference to how it resides in Ahtal Nesto and controls it as if it was its own body. So put together Ahtal-Ka would mean something like "Noble Egyptian Spirit".
@@keimasilver You may not know this, but Fatalis and Dire Miralis is a species also related to each other, which technically makes them cousins. The same with Zorah and Lao Shan Lung. Thank lord for the translated books.
@@ArgenteonYT It's clear he did his research, but assuming he either didn't play the games or only played world, a few of his mistakes are very fair to make from such a position.
It should be noted that Rathalos's official Japanese name is Lioleaus/Rioreusu. Hiryu is its Japanese title, translated into its English title, the Fire Wyvern. Lioleaus is most likely derived from Leo/Lion, and Basileus, meaning king. LITERALLY, the Lion King, emphasizing its honorary title of "King of the Skies". Plus, according to a developer interview (credit goes to Gaijin Hunter for detailing this), Tigrex was named to contrast Rathalos in its debut in Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd with the Tiger in Tigrex contrasting the lion in Lioleaus. Also, Tigrex is officially pronounced "Tee-grex ". I also don't really agree with it...
I shouldn't really be saying this given my thoughts on how he handled this video, but yeah no Tigrex is pronounced Tie grex I don't care what the devs say.
Ti is pronounced "à la française", since there’s literally the word "Tigre" in its name (I’ve been saying Ti-grex for years, but looking back Tee sounds better)
Barroth .... Barro in spanish means mud, and if I don't remember badly there is a mission called "El behemoth del barro". Remember that MonHun series takes a lot of spanish words.
13:50 Inaccuracy: While it could go supernova anywhere between tomorrow and 100,000 years from now, the flickering is actually from dust ejected from the star. Betelgeuse is as bright as it was before the event and hasn’t changed since.
Being a Spanish monster hunter fan makes me feel like a company finally made our language more used in names of creatures,There were already some in other franchises, like using the numbers in artic-uno zap-dos and mol-tres But in monster hunter there are a lot more of references and it makes me happy for some reason
I have a bit of a weak connection for Anjanath. The Janissaries who were the elite Ottoman troops they were famous for a lot, but a big part of there tool kits were glass grenades that were mostly fire unlike the shrapnel from metal ones that would tie into the fire powers of the Anjanath.
DID YOU CALL LAVASIOTH THE SUBSPECIES OF JYURATODUS?! Lavasioth is from a older Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Frontier. So them calling Lavasioth "Lava Jyuratodus" is completely impossible because Jyuratodus wouldn't have been a thought for a while
Even if that is true it could be like how the galar zigzagoon is technically the first zigzagoon according to lore when it came like 6 gens later that and even still its a Piscene wyvern one of the most infuriating species of monsters available so who really cares that much
So about Tzitzi-Ya-Ku’s translation, you are correct that Tzi means Navy, but if you combine two Tzi one after the other it means boobs as well. Another thing, Radobaan’s name sounds similar to Dorban, which in Hebrew means spur, and is mostly referred to a creature full of spikes on it’s body.
Plesioth's hipchecks are so powerful, it hipchecked its way into this video from future videos that cover non-MHW monsters. Sidenote: This wouldn't be discovered on a video that only did research on MHW monsters, but there's another monster similar to Diablos called Monoblos, with the major difference being that Monoblos has one horn, Diablos has a pair. Mono for 1, Di for 2.

Rathalos's Japanese name is Rioreusu, Hiryu is sort of his title. Also Legiana's Japanese name, Reigiena comes from the characters Rei (レイ) , which is katakana characters equivalent for pronunciation of the first character of Fridge/Reizoko( 冷蔵庫) which means Cold (冷) which is what Legiana's theme is all about.
I love how English speaking people have little to no problem pronouncing vowels in japanese words but just throw that out the window when it comes to spanish. XD
Bhaal in D&D is not a prince of hell. He was one of three gods of death in the Forgotten Realms setting. Specifically the god of assassins and ritualistic murder.
it does the meteor attack that you use to hide behind for the finisher (or you get a dragoon jump emote that if timed right can evade it) just like the raid. but he also spams an area denial wind spell called charybdis, which while not in ff14 is in some of the other games. it's a pretty faithful representation all things considered. oh it also has a hard aggro component for multiplayer... which is a direct nod to the ff14 component.
@@benjaminrosiek5007 No no no! Charybdis is defintely in 14. It's been a while since I've done the Behemoth FATE but I'm pretty sure its supposed to be based off that boss. And the Behemoth in Palace of the Dead definitely does the charybdis thing.

Behemoth, you're not even going to talk about how this is a crossover with Final Fantasy XIV? I mean you get Dragoon armor from that game for the Behemoth fight in Monster Hunter world
There's a lot of misuse/pronunciations of the Japanese names in here. I'm really complaining, mostly saying that some of the meanings you got were pretty off base. A couple notable ones being Diablos and Fatalis. Diablos gets the Di from it's two horns because it is very similar to another older gen monster Monoblos. While the assessment wasn't completely wrong, that part is kinda important. Fatalis' Japanese name however, Miraboreus, (someone can correct me if I'm wrong here) starts with the suffix Mira, most likely derived from the Japanese word for future: Mirai. This is presumably why the English name has to do with fate. Good video still, would totally love to see more Monster Hunter stuff.
Um Diablos came like I think it's three games before miraboreus showed up? At least one game before. So that doesn't exactly aply. It's basically the the spanish word for demon. Then throw in able and die and you get a demon that is able and will kill you. Enough said I think. As for Miraboreus it's more of the runner up because they wanted something to look like deablos, act like a deablos but be a different spices.
@@dranoradragonqueen1494 Miraboreas is the Japanese name for Fatalis, the first game's final boss. Monoblos, who you mean, is the first game's single player final boss. Diablos is the second game's two horned counter part to Monoblos.

Something to note: yian garuga is heavily implied (im not sure if its ever been confirmed) to be the product of a Yian-Kutku and a Rathian breeding. They are very aggresive and take design elements from both monsters (most notably the body form of Kutku and the tail+poison of rathian): That could be a big reason behind the similar naming scheme
INCORRECT. Yian Garuga is a closely related cousin of the Kut-Ku. Seperate species, not a hybrid. The whole hybrid thing is a fan theory/joke from way, way back in the day.
Safi jiva is longer tho. Safi comes in at >4700cm while xeno jiva comes at >4500cm. This measurement is their length, so from head to tail. It could be that xeno is bigger in terms of height and width, but safi is longer
I just HATE that Lockstin is getting most of the lore of Monster Hunter WRONG! THESE creatures ARE NOT dragons!!! They are WYVERNS. The devs SPECIFICALLY wanted to emphasize that the monsters of Monster Hunter are wyverns, as in almost every other game, they came across dragons and thus wanted to make their monsters stand out. And the pronunciation!!! Did he actually play the games!?!?
We do actually have class specifically called "Elder *dragon* " I can see where he got confused. But I do agree he should have done a little more research before releasing this vid.
Sorry for being nitpicky. But you can look up what the devs stated. With dragons, there's just not much you can do with them. With the wyverns, you can change there style, and place them in various categories. Most dragons are wyverns, but every wyvern is not a dragon.

:alatreon, haunted my dreams since monster hunter 3:
0:28 "I'm gonna mispronounce so many of these today, I'm sorry."
Well if you say so, I'll might as well forgive you.
Edit: You can find out some of the names' real pronunciations in the game's cutscenes
Edit 2: According to "Monster Hunter Generations Localization Notes Part 5" in Capcom-Unity, Glavenus got his name from gladius (Latin for sword), fervens (Latin for burning) and the "-saurus" suffix used in plenty of dinosaur names. So you got the explanation completely wrong there but nice try nonetheless.

A black Diablos isn't just a female Diablos, it's a female Diablos in heat. When not in heat a female Diablos looks the same as every other Diablos.
I'll do you one better, every single diablos is female, the male equivalent, just like rathalos and rathian, has a different name and appearance, being called monoblos since it has, well, one horn, instead of two

Also Diabla having "-a" at the end fits to fact that lots of polish girl names ends with letter "-a". Rathian got renamed as well, but she only got "-a" added to her name so audience can tell that she is a girl.
Lockstin about fatalis: "Am I just a carting scrub?"
Me who beat fatalis: yes, yes you are
You should do something like this for the monsters that weren’t in World and Iceborne.
@@keimasilver INTERESTING! See why I suggested that he explores more of the names? Thanks for the info!
@@keimasilver You may not know this, but Fatalis and Dire Miralis is a species also related to each other, which technically makes them cousins. The same with Zorah and Lao Shan Lung. Thank lord for the translated books.

Plesioth's hipchecks are so powerful, it hipchecked its way into this video from future videos that cover non-MHW monsters.

Miraboreas I think

The wyverns not dragons thing is a bit nitpicky, because the real life meaning of this word is a dragon.
In japanese the Wyverns are all called dragons if IRC.
While Elder Dragon are called something like "Old Dragon".
Also certain quests refer to monster like Rathalos as a Dragon. The quest "Red Dragon, Green Dragon" in MHGU for example
The monsters DO have titles, they're the official title for all of them. Also barroth is pronounced (bare-oth)
I can't believe it....I actually knew the one lewd artwork for the Tzitzi Ya-ku before this video. That Artist drew some very nice monster antrhophications. His/Her (?) Vaal Hazak is one of my favorites
Please no
...Vaal Hazak?
I thought Rathalos's Japanese name was Lioreusu, or Liolaeus
It's original name is leolaeus but he is using the newer name since it was changed recently.
It is, i think he was confused because it gets called lioleaus the fire dragon
