@@Duunti The boot stiffeners, straps and risers are essential equipment for high speed steep carving for sure. Those, and the best freecarving boards on the planet!
These look quite nice, might have to pick up a set of each! I prefer a mid flex boot for buttering around and general riding but these look like they'd level up my carving on days I just want to carve as hard as I can, especially on early morning groomers. Any word on the canted risers? I was looking at picking up some form of riser to help with boot out on my narrower board. Initially I was looking at the Trenched Butterfly Wing BX Riser you guys have but I think my board is too narrow (Nitro Cannon 203, 255mm waist). I'm not too concerned with performance increases, just want to be able to carve a bit deeper on the Cannon without booting out (my other boards are around 280mm waist). Wouldn't mind a low budget riser alternative if there are any reputable ones you know of as well
@@kerrygorny2045 Still waiting on the canted riser, the manufacturer should be back to work next week, hopefully I'm first. The Trenched Butterfly Wing BX will work on your 255mm waist, so long as you have 260mm under foot. I tried to make an affordable riser option but shit costs money to manufacture in Canada. Maybe next season we'll make some in China.
@cherrycarves oh okay that's great news on the Trenched one, will have to see if the wife will let me drop some money on risers. Thought I read a comment on a past video saying the waist had to be minimum of 260mm but if it's just the underfoot that'll work perfectly! And yeah that's definitely understandable, seems like everything in Canada is skyrocketing in price unfortunately
@@kerrygorny2045 Yeah, I needed the first batch produced locally so I could QC it myself. It's great stuff, I'm super happy with the results. We definitely did not hit our price point though.
@@jameslee7961 So many reasons! I rode hardboots for years before I met @RyanKnapton and discovered wide boards in 2013. Soft boots are more comfortable, the stance is less awkward and more versatile, the whole experience feels more organic. With the boards and interface I ride, I can go as fast and carve as hard and as smooth as I ever could in hardboots. Plus, people treat me differently in soft boots. They see my style as something they could also do, instead of judging me to be some kind of freak doing a different sport entirely. On hardboots I rode 55/60 degree stance angles. Try making jump turns in a mogul field with this stance! (Don't actually, it's not fun at all.) Too locked in to extreme stance angles, very difficult to skid turns. I had quite a few shoulder injuries in hard boots too. Awesome on clean smooth surface though, admittedly. I haven't ridden my hardboots at all since winter 21/22. I'm not inspired or motivated to do that anymore. Soft boot carving is the future!
It’s interesting to me since there’s been a resurgence on hardboots in the split board community. I would’ve thought riding backcountry in softboots would be more effective and enjoyable than hardboots. You’re right about the acceptance part though. Hardboot boarders get no love out on the hill, and yes watching you carve in softboots definitely gives ppl like me false hope to be able to do what you do. It’s ironic how it was Ryan who got you into softboot carving when he defies all logic and does what he does in a duck stance.
@jameslee7961 The backcountry hard boot trend is all about the precision and lightweight system for climbing. It makes soft boot splitboarding feel like I'm wearing clown shoes on the uphill. If they made a decent boot with a lower sole length I might try it for carving. A boot with the performance of the Phantom Slipper but the profile of a snowboard race boot at the sole (like the UPZ RC12) with a tech toe for the Dynafit toe pieces.
