Smart girl! It's one thing to hike through snow but quite another to slog through multiple river crossings while it snows. That's a recipe for trench foot and hypothermia. ❄️💧
Very cool Kelly, you don’t get to hear that often, at least most of us don’t! Did a few packing trips in the Gila in the 80’s, wonderful terrain, great archeological sites, hope you go thru the high alpine, it’ll be a highlight for sure! Great video, thanks.
One of the Wolves from the Gila keeps going hundreds of Miles outside the area managed and they always track it down and bring it back....makes zero sense.......that was awesome hearing the wolves!!
There needs to be a "continental crest trail" that starts up on the eastern side near red river/Cimarron and goes south along the mountains towards Mexico. Not that there's anything wrong with the western side of the state, it would just be nice to have one that stays up in the mountains. I know it would be a nightmare to try to get passage through, it's just that the road walks in this state are a bit much.
@@zinsch1 yes, but much less. There are some smaller mountains between the Sandias and south end of the Santa fe national forest. You run into the same Problem again east of Soccoro with the white sands missile range. Honestly it's just wishful thinking. This state is a mish mash of military, public, private, and tribal lands. Its just wishful thinking on my part, it's honestly impressive that anyone got the cdt corridor to work between the Gila and Cuba.
@@Dan__S Cimarron is not even in the mountains, let alone at the crest, but I think I get what you are saying. The Grand Enchantment Trail does part of what you are looking for. It starts northeast of Albuquerque runs along the Sandia Crest and continues south through the mountains. It then crosses over I-25 just north of Soccoro and continues west to Phoenix. But the problem is the lack of continues public lands in New Mexico. More then a few GET hikers have gotten escorted off of private land at gun point, even when following the official GET route. That is a nice area, but I think the CDT route is better.
What happened to Peg Leg and Syrup? Did they finish? Are they OK? Last I understood was they pressed on one of your zeros for weather and they got caught in a flash flood. Hoping they are both alright! Thanks in advance for any update you can provide and keep on truckin'!
I have not hiked with either for almost of a month at this point. I do not know where they were at the time of this video. I will not be updating on anyone else’s whereabouts out of respect as it is not my news to share. I encourage everyone who is wondering where Peg is on this hike to follow her blog on the trek. You can search for her name in the trek website. Syrup also did a fantastic job documenting his hike on his instagram so you can head over there as well. :)
Best hiking channel in my opinion ❤😊 I'm in the SW part of Pennsylvania and I'm definitely not looking forward to the white stuff 😮.Nooooo! I know it's coming soon.
250 Miles left. Then what is next? So interesting and beautiful. Thank you for sharing! I like to just send what I can in Paypal. I follow 300 + people so I cannot afford to be on patreon for all. But I can help when I can.
Kind of lost track of your progress the last month or so. Originally, you had hoped to be done by election day. I take it you are still on trail as of today since you said you have 250 miles left. Be safe and happy trails!
Same thing the indians heard before they were ?? I just cant go there in my mind . But those wolves are being reintroduced as ranchers and homesteders killed them off
@ I married one yes he had to go. So no dna in me of Custer. My dna is from the immagrents they brought here to work thier steelmills and coal mines.Yeah they came for a better life to be worked like animals digging for coal so they could destroy our world with pollution Some people just dont get it . Greed 🤮
Awesome! Hearing the wolf packs howl at night is SUCH a magical experience.
What a gorgeous afternoon! Descending into the valley, cotton candy clouds. 😍 7:43

Wouldn't you still have the same problem south of Santa Fe?

It’s just that the Continental Divide is where it is

Kelly, please be careful going into Mexico. God Bless
Back on trail November 5th. Make sure I don’t hike that section that late.
Other than the few little fronts the weather around this time has been awesome.
The wolves howled kind of spooky
More like majestic bro!! Spooky is a couch potato's opinion.

Can't help but notice your last name while reading your comment about Indians.

Where is your next work contract?
In the few days you should be losing elevation and gaining temperature.
Hopefully. ❤
Neoprene socks 🧦 keep feet warm even when wet.❤
Yep. I have Sealskins and swear by them. Very comfortable too!!
How to ID a Mexican Wolf?
They howl in Spanish instead of English.
