- Police have arrested a teenager in the assault of an off-duty firefighter on the Upper East Side last weekend.
Damir Johnson, 17, is facing a charge of second-degree assault.
He was greeted by a line of grim faced firefighters who stared him down as he was moved from the 19th precinct on Thursday.
For his part, Damir insisted the off duty firefighter attacked his friend first, and he was merely defending his friend.

The GROUP of teens attacked an elderly couple. An off-duty fire fighter intervened. That group then beat the firefighter.

A friend of mine who was a firefighter died of cancer a few years ago. The firefighters from where he worked attended his funeral, fire engine in tow. He had retired 35 years ago. They are loyal to the end and never forget their fellow firemen.

One can only hope that this kid will one day learn his mother's wisdom in making the decision to turn him in and get him the help he so desperately needs. With sufficient time to rethink his misguided decision and the error in his reasoning there may be hope for him to see the error of his ways and straighten his life out. I admire his mom's integrity and her demonstration of her love for her son reflected in her sacrifice to do the right thing. She is a remarkable woman by any measure. Prayers for the injured firefighter and the kid to change his perspective on true loyalty vs. aiding and abetting criminal mischief.
I have a tremendous amount of Respect for all Firefighters and first responders. God bless these Men, and may their wounded brother make a full recovery ! 🙏🚒🙏

I had a friend who was a cop in Fort Apache in the Bronx. When he started out in his career he said if there was a problem with a kid you went to the parents and the parents would usually take care of it. He said that by the time he retired, if you went to a parent with an issue with their kids, they would say my child wouldn't do that and slam the door in his face. Different times or a different morality? I feel it's the latter.
