Earwires were one of the first things I learned to make in wire jewelry a couple years ago but I must say your way of bending the wire in half and making 2 together and then separating later is quite clever. 👍 I can't wait to try it out. Thanks! 🙂
Those are so pretty and dainty! I'm curious about what wire you'd recommend for people who are allergic to the usual store-bought earring findings, even the hypo-allergenic? I know I can wear the silver plated, and probably gold, but I have no clue about the wire that you'd make your own from. Thanks!
You can buy silver and gold filled and plated wires. You'll just need to be careful not to expose the copper core. I'd suggest using silver or gold filled wires, instead of plated, as there is more of the precious metal and less likelihood of it being scratched away, exposing the copper.
Really liked this video Sandy!! Thank you for sharing.... never thought I would get into jewelry making but I have 4 daughter in laws and a daughter! LOL...... So, I make them beautiful gifts!! :D
It really depends on the style you are making. The shorter, simpler ones might take 2-2.5 inches each, the longer, fancier ones may require 4 inches or more. I do like to cut double the wire, fold it in half and make two matching ear wires at once. You can them store them together, and not cut them apart until ready to use. Practice first with inexpensive craft wire. Then you can get accurate measurements for your nicer wires. Happy creating!
It's a tricky balance between zooming in tight enough and staying in frame. I'd like to think I've gotten a little better at it in the 2 1/2 years since this video was recorded. :-D Hope you got something helpful from the tutorial anyways.

Sandy, what size cup bur do you use for ear wires?? Thanks
I only have one cup burr, it measures 1.8mm across and seems to work nicely on the 20 gauge wire I usually use for ear wires.
I have the same plastic mandrel set. I see you wrote sizes on yours. Where did you get the sizes? Do you have them on all of the shapes?
I used calipers and measured them.

So glad you found the video helpful, Carole. Happy creating!
Sandy, if you want an idea on videos, I'd like to see some simple ear wraps with small beads and such. Thanks.
Hi Myra, I'll keep the suggestion in mind. Although I've never made nor worn ear wraps, it isn't too late to start!
Would you please tell me where you got the bail making pliers?
Hi Jeanne, They are a great tool! I got mine from Amazon: amzn.to/2rxjJtZ Happy creating!
Can you show us how to make ear hooks using titanium wire?
Titanium wire isn't something I usually use, but I'd think you'd do it the same way, whatever the wire.
Should I take round soft wire.
Kamal Monga For ear wires I would recommend starting with half hard wire. Otherwise you may find that your earrings won't hold their shape.
What's the wire softness?
It's usually called "wire hardness". I'd suggest using half hard for ear wires.
What length do you cut the wire? single or double?
