When I was 16, I skipped school to go see The Flaming Lips. This was like 2005 or 2006. During the opening bands set, this drunk dude about 20 feet away from me was shouting at the top of his lungs “PLAY SOME BUILT TO SPILLLL” lmao. This went on for way too long. But I credit that dude for making me go home that night and checking out Built to Spill. Fantastic band. Carry the Zero is essential listening.
Apparently the location that listens to a lot of the same music I do was Sapporo Japan. I really thought this was a cool added feature and I hope they keep it in next year! 😊 I was also a top 2% fan of ado shes such an amazing artist her vocal range is insane!
Seriously can't believe that Built to Spill, Mineral and Algernon Cadwallader were in your top five this year. So sick. I'm from Boise, Idaho (where Built to Spill is from) and I've been pestering Doug about doing a Japan tour in the next few years. Hopefully it happens!! (also it's pronounced "al-jer-non cahd-wall-adder")

I didnt use Spotify because I bundled the premium and music in RUclips. My top #1 artist and also newly discovered this year is Hanabasami Kyo, such a good voice.

His music is the reason got me interested in watching Bleach & Evangelion for the first time and also got me listening to classical music Evangelion 3.0 & Bleach: Hell Verse are my Top 2 favorite ost from Sagisu

This past year Spotify Wrapped 2023 looked the best it has ever looked. And yeah, I saw a lot of people talking about it. I was really excited this year truly. Like you mentioned surprised by the Spotify podcast feature. My most listened to podcast this year was Internet Analysis by Tiffany Ferguson.
I will always listen to a full album first. I know time and thought goes into the order of the songs and there's often a general theme throughout the transitions between songs. For example, So much [for] stardust by fall out boy came out last spring and there is a really cool flow to the album. Most of their albums have some sort of theme and it's important to listen to the albums in order and in their entirety. My favorite album by them is Infinity on High (the album that came out after the album that made them popular...From Under the Cork Tree) and there's a lot of social commentary in there from apathy to insecurity to mental health to frustration and longing and arrogance and love. You wouldn't get the whole picture if you didn't go through the whole album
This year i found myself in the top 0.4 % of listeners of two door cinema club and i was baffled and the same happened with kessoku band so those two definitely made my year
This year I’ve listened to 11,335 minutes of Trash Taste. Haha. I started listening to your podcast maybe early 2022? But it would take me 1 week to listen to a full episode on my way to and back from work. Now in 2023 I got a new job where you’re allowed to listen to music and there’s a lot of downtime so I took that chance to listen to all the Episodes I missed which were… A LOT! haha. I’m not on Spotify. But I am rewatching your trashtaste for the second time and it’s still relevant. Most times while traveling and while striking unknown cities, I press your video that it’s direct RUclips or downloaded and just listen than watching. I’m now on ep 60. Two funny things. First in Ep 43 and four trash tastes ago you when mentioning the end of attack on titan and you were all spot on. Secound you said twitter in min 17 than X. Which shows that your not much into X 🤣
For the place that listens just like you, I got Burlington USA as well, and I listen to heavy punk and noise rock music. I'm pretty sure all my friends (as well as my mom) got Burlington USA too. I think Spotify just loves that place.
TT is the highlight of every week. I get home from work on Friday, get changed, and put on Trash Taste. The weekend hasn't started until that has happened.
as somebody who just saw Earl and Alc live a few weeks back (with MIKE). they all sound like 10x better live (especially MIKE) highly recommend if you haven’t been to one of their shows
You guys are the only podcast i kisten to. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping it interesting. Love enoying your content individually and together n.n ❤
If you're into punk and you're looking for any new artist (or artist from another country) I would recommend Honningbarna, especially their album "Animorphs". They're a norwegian punk band which is semi-huge here in Norway. I think their sound is unique and great, and i love their lyrics. It's a bit easier for me as a norwegian to understand them, but they're even worth translating. They take time to digest, and i find myself finding new interpretations often hahah
You know, ive never heard of any of these, but who am i to judge? I listened to six genres this year, but my top ten artists and aongs are all in one genre. Usually mine is way more diverse, but this year i choose comfort when I did spend the few minutes on Spotify that I have outside of podcasts. This has been a low listening year since I used yt more (blame t swift for releasing so much music lol. I do think in order is superior but I come from a time where I had a CD player and that's how I had to listen to Red. Edit: the three genres are correct. I listen to y'all on yt but those are what I'm into on Spotify as well. Thanks for the pod! I still love it two years later.
joey, have you listened to "betcover!!"? they are a japanese jazz rock band that i simply can't get enough of. Their newest album 馬 and their 2021 release 時間 are my favorites.
I didn't realise you could disable playlist from counting towards your taste profile so most of the music in my Wrapped this year was background music. Not complaining though, Bear McCreary's god of war tracks and a couple ffxiv tracks definitely deserved to be up there for my profile. Definitely going to check out some of these groups and bands though, I always need to discover new stuff.

I only discovered Trash Taste in 2023 despite having absolutely no knowledge of anime or gaming or even youtube content creators actually. The last game I played was probably Super Mario on the SNES in the early 90s and the first game was ET on the Atari on the early 80s. The only anime I have watched is Ghost in the Shell but I did start reading Death Note (and stopped and started and stopped) Because I am so old I'm constantly on urban dictionary looking up half the things you 3 say (then forgetting it and having to look it up again) Despite all this I bloody love Trash Taste so much and can't wait for Fridays along with watching all the other content creators you have introduced me to over the last year. 🧡 Thank You!
Look, man, I'm not from Burlingtona, and I do not live in Burlington, but I do live next to it. I live in a much, much smaller and way lesser known place that is about an hour and a half away, and let me tell you, that Burlington can get rough at times. Also, yeah it is in New York.
Trash Taste was my 4th most listened to this year podcast wise. My top 5 artists were: Rustage Twice Fleetwood Mac Polkadot Stingray Bradio Top 5 Songs were: Devils Luck by Rustage The Cult of Dionysus by the Orion Experience Dreams by Fleetwood Mac Odoriko by Vaundy (SUCH a good song, yall please listen to it) Before Your Eyes by Rustage
Dreams is a classic but I can't hear it without thinking of the cover of it some of my friends at college did, one of which sounded exactly like Stevie Nicks
I already knew we had vastly different tastes in music, but that's okay. I still enjoy hearing about other peoples spotify wrapped. My top song was from the Avatar The Last Airbender Book: 1 soundtrack called Aang Becomes Ocean. I'm not mad about it because Jeremy Zuckerman made an awesome soundtrack for Avatar: The Last Airbender.
There is this Polish rapper Taco Hemingway. His albums are in a way of a story so its better to listen from the 1st to the last song. Sure when it appear on the playlist 1 or 2 songs it wouldn't make sense but when you listened enough you know what's up. Also I like to know what other people listen too so maybe I can take on some band, artist to listen to myself. Thanks Joey :D
I don't use Spotify, but I do use RUclips Music, and they also have an end of year wrap. My top artists were: 1 Demondice, 2 Calliope Mori, 3 Hakos Baelz, 4 Fake Type, and 5 Kiara Takahashi. And I was in the top 0.1 percent of Demondice Listeners. Which makes me very happy.
I love that The Anime Man is into Midwest Emo. It's not a phase, mom.

Burlington is in Vermont i thinkkk
For the place that listens just like you, I got Burlington USA as well, and I listen to heavy punk and noise rock music. I'm pretty sure all my friends (as well as my mom) got Burlington USA too. I think Spotify just loves that place.
Cad-walla-der I guess ? But isnt Algernon french orsomething ? I have no idea why this all of a sudden interests me.
I like this type of videos where you just talk about stuff you've been into lately. Even if it's a yearly update.
Holy shit, Joey is on that midwest/skrams adjacent kick with algernon. I am so here for this.
TT is the highlight of every week. I get home from work on Friday, get changed, and put on Trash Taste. The weekend hasn't started until that has happened.
my wrapped said my soundtown is in burlington too, very heavy on the csh too lmao
as somebody who just saw Earl and Alc live a few weeks back (with MIKE). they all sound like 10x better live (especially MIKE) highly recommend if you haven’t been to one of their shows
You're honorary part of Burlington Vermont, Joey. I could actually see you vibing with those people
You guys are the only podcast i kisten to. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping it interesting. Love enoying your content individually and together n.n ❤
Love the video and have really been enjoying the content on the second channel !
Wow , we really have the same music taste. I also had burlington as my location too haha
Banger Wrapped, proud of You.
Mine was Ashes on The Fire from Attack on Titan.
Ya'll were my #1 podcast, which is surprising because I normally catch you guys here on youtube, not on Spotify, but still you prevailed!
Oooh cool
Always a delight hearing you talk about music 🤗
Was stoked the moment I saw that thumbnail. Built to Spill is awesome!
wallflower - Tim Atlas
Listen to it fellow indie-pop, nu disco enthusiasts.
calico- DPR IAN
For my korean rnb crowd,
low blow- honeymoan
for the indie-rock peeps :D
Hell yeah to you getting Burlington! It's my hometown! We are in Vermont btw :P
I love these videos about music!!!
i love that the place that listened just like Joey is burlington vt, though it makes a bit of sense
really good breakdown on TT wrapped
I followed joey for years but discovered trash taste only in april this year and surprisingly started listening to it on Spotify just last month.
My Wrapped this year was Vocaloid(specifically the artist/producer NILFRUITS) and Ado.
Hahaha I got Burlingon, USA also. It said that people there are far more likely to be fans of Vulfpeck, Steely Dan and Sammy Rae.
Look, man, I'm not from Burlingtona, and I do not live in Burlington, but I do live next to it. I live in a much, much smaller and way lesser known place that is about an hour and a half away, and let me tell you, that Burlington can get rough at times. Also, yeah it is in New York.
I like these sort of videos, can't wait to watch it
Trash Taste was my 4th most listened to this year podcast wise.
My top 5 artists were:
Rustage
Twice
Fleetwood Mac
Polkadot Stingray
Bradio
Top 5 Songs were:
Devils Luck by Rustage
The Cult of Dionysus by the Orion Experience
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
Odoriko by Vaundy (SUCH a good song, yall please listen to it)
Before Your Eyes by Rustage
Polka dot stingray was my number 1! Underrated band
Dreams is a classic but I can't hear it without thinking of the cover of it some of my friends at college did, one of which sounded exactly like Stevie Nicks
Actually went to school in Burlington. I don’t listen to the same type of music but that’s cool
Now where is ikurru’s spotify wrapped hahahahaha
real😊
liked for pete ! he is such a good content creator and a nice guy ^^
the alchemist!! this thing of ours is such a great little ep
Nice, love me some Milo and Zelooperz. I'd recommend you clipping. and Cities Aviv.
Joey, will you do a piece on Eating disorders in Japan? In know they are ubiquitous in Tokyo/kanto, but no one wants ton touch it
i check the wrapped up cause of you and it shows i listen to a lot of metal which is true most of are the songs from guilty gear that Naoki sang.
what Im excited for is the new youtube pic were gonna vote on
Built to spill on the cover nice
I already knew we had vastly different tastes in music, but that's okay. I still enjoy hearing about other peoples spotify wrapped. My top song was from the Avatar The Last Airbender Book: 1 soundtrack called Aang Becomes Ocean. I'm not mad about it because Jeremy Zuckerman made an awesome soundtrack for Avatar: The Last Airbender.
thank you joey for todays video.
wow didnt know joey fw earl that much! thats awesome sauce
Car seat Headrest = Goated
true
Goatedd music taste🤌🏽
BASED TO SPILL LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I don't use Spotify, but I do use RUclips Music, and they also have an end of year wrap. My top artists were: 1 Demondice, 2 Calliope Mori, 3 Hakos Baelz, 4 Fake Type, and 5 Kiara Takahashi.
And I was in the top 0.1 percent of Demondice Listeners. Which makes me very happy.
