DAY DREAMER // AN ART FILM ABOUT NARCOLEPSY & CATAPLEXY // by Kêta

Here's what inspired me to shoot this unique footage...
Living with Narcolepsy and Cataplexy is strange.
Senses are dulled yet also are hightened at times.
I live life in a constant state of exhaustion, weaving in and out of a dream state.
Feeling at times, like the veil between reailty and fantasy has dissolved to some extent.
When struck with Cataplexy, my own body, a muted shell.
Unable to move.
Unable to speak.
No control.
The telephone booth in this video represents my inability to comunicate or speak when experiencing Cataplexy.
The white sheet I am wrapped in, represents the sleep disorder causing it.
The beach scenes are a representation of my walking through life with this sleep disorder.
The absense of footprints as I am walking; an illistration of the way I feel at times, when disconnected from physical reality when I'm in a Hypnagogic state...
(Hypnagogia is a transitional state from wakefulness to sleep: this state of semi-consciousness, during the onset of sleep. Mental phenomena that can occur during this "threshold of consciousness" phase include lucid thought, lucid dreaming, hallucinations, or sleep paralysis)
The running towards the end is representing me coming back into reality. Thus, the solid appearance of my footprints.

Approximately 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with Narcolepsy.
But, it is estmated that as many as 125,000 to 200,000 americans may also have Narcolepsy, and yet go undiagnosed.
In spite of my chronic health challenges, I choose to live life to the fullest, with a positive mindset and outlook. It is a choice.
I am happy.
I am strong.
I may be an actual NAP QUEEN but I take life by the horns and give it all I got.
