@@damndanielrealass8004 What are the problems in controls in your opinions? I have encountered none. Also hack and slash games are like Skyrim, and no way in hell they have more "diverse movesets" than The Witcher 3.
Drowners are based on real-world Slavic mytholgical creatures known as wodnik, vodník, vodyanoy etc. From the stories I've heard, they are sentient, wear old tattered clothes and usually a hat. They have either green skin or green hair, have finger membranes, but otherwise look like men. Sometimes they're evil, sometimes good, sometimes just neutral. Evil ones pull people into water and drown them, so that they can harvest their souls, neutral and good ones just collect souls of people who had drowned by other means. The souls are always stored in cups in their underwater homes.
I think I know where the origin of the myth about drowners being the corpses of drowned criminals. Think about it drowner’s are necrophages, meaning they eat dead tissue. And this is a medieval society, brutal punishments for criminals such as drowning are commonplace. It’s possible that when people punished their criminals by drowning, drowners would show up later to eat the corpses and cause trouble for villagers as a result. To a villager who doesn’t know better they might see the correlation and think it equals causation.
Those would be the Vodyanoi from Witcher 1, they are fishmen that come out at night to convert humans in villages into fishmen thralls. They aren't the same thing as Drowners though. Muppet fucked up.
I'm never going to get tired of Skyrim and Fallout videos, but I'd love to see more Witcher lore and videos from all the other games you three love. This also reminds me that I really need to get back to Witcher 3....
super excited Fudgemuppet is doing Witcher lore now. Don't get me wrong I love skyrim and fallout but I started getting a bit burnt out, so it's good to see this channel applying its great story/lore telling skills to other games I love. Keep up the good work!
This is really cool, I love the background videos of civilian life in witcher 3. makes me appreciate again the way almost everything sways with the wind, and townsfolk go about their lives.
THANK GOD THAT WELL-STRUCTURED AND WELL-RESEARCHED WITCHER LORE VIDEOS FINALLY EXIST. The cherry on top is that it's coming from one of my favorite rpg lore channels!
Took a break from playing Fallout 4, and started playing Witcher 3 for the first time, so it's awesome that you're doing Witcher 3 videos now. More, please! You could also do videos about builds.
Love these videos. I am going to play through the witcher 3 again because of your vids. Please continue your work . Would love to see a vid on vampires (especially strong ones like Detlaff) and other parts of the Witcher Lore.
Yesss please omg this is going to give youre channel such a boost + theres just so much lore in the series looking forward to every one of the upcoming vids ;)
Water hag is water type of hag not hag type of drowner- i think that it might help (I'm Polish and get the real original names and folklore so yeah) anyways happy to help
Hydrogen One you can look around and see if there is a translation of this book available: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Ancient_Tale_(novel) That's a pretty good start.
I like that theory about water hags being the breeding partners. It could be a queen ant colony situation. Like the hags are the queens. They're always around them.
Yes Witcher 3 is better than Skyrim, i'd say. The scenery better, actual big cities, villages, more voice actors, better voice acting, better story, better quests, your choices actually have consequences (mostly) There's no debate on the Skyrim v Witcher 3 comparison. Witcher 3 crushes Skyrim by a mile
In Polish lore drowners were simply people who drowned themselves (or simply downed, or were drowned by drowners) and were transformed into monsters by the stron emotions connected to their deaths. There were tons of legends about people who died suddenly or by unnatural deaths truing into demons after death.
I've never played any of the Witcher games, but I've always been really interested in the game's lore. This was an awesome video, and I'm certainly looking forward to more. What a creepy creature! I love it!
Side note: A Fudgemuppet Witcher beastiary playlist would be absolutely amazing Side note: Damnit Drew, I thought I had Micheal’s voice pinned down and here you are throwing yours around making me feel like a fool.lol
My boyfriend got me The witcher 3 game of the year edition for christmas.. I’ve always wanted to play it but holy fuck now I can’t stop :’) Can’t say I’ve ever been so addicted to a game ever, new favorite
If you guys could continue these witcher law videos that'd mean a hell ton the witcher isn't as straight forward as TES I feel and you guys did a great job on it
Please continue this, it really helps others understand what they miss out on the creatures of the witcher, especially those who love the books and can easily differentiate what they seen in gameplay, then what they’ve read in the novels. Anyways, go crazy with the research guys!
I always thought that they were that amphibian creature that geralt finds when investigating the dead pearl divers, the story with the mermaid in either sword of destiny or the last wish. The Duke even calls them drowners. Though they have metal spears and armor and have an underwater city.
Drowners - Polish: Utopce - are actually a distinct slavic demons, although they were sometimes associated with wodnik. Much like a second type of water demons - topielec, which was sometimes associated with utopiec.
This is one of those enemies that really taught new players that this ain't no hack and slash game lol
More like dodge and slash... but i get your point. Large group of drowners are annoying.
DwightSmith whirl and severence. That is the best way
Didn't it ever! But once i started thinking dark souls and not god of war i did alright!
Bwuh different controls, yes, but the Witcher 3 isn’t a hack and slash game, so it’s controls aren’t for a hack and slash.

Great now I want to play the Witcher 3 again...
I am actually on my first playthrough so seeing the start of a new witcher series is awesome.
And I literally just uninstalled
Ragnar Lothbrok _ we all do...

many women before you have said this.

Slavic kappas?
Drowners are based on drowners, lol. Wodnik is a totally different creature although they were sometimes confused.
What are you talking about?
I'm saying that drowners are NOT based on wodniks because they are two distinct creatures.
You're stil not making any sense. There are no drowners outside of the Witcherverse.
You are doing Witcher stuff now? Sweet.
He started his own channel which focuses on Witcher Lore. Google "Drewston"
I will look into it, thank you.
@@porridgepatrol1907 that lasted long
Wew! I’m like 80 hours into a new play through so this seems rather timely to come out. Very awesome stuff, keep it coming.

Agreed
I am reminded of the Deep Ones from Lovecraft.

This was a great video with very nice elements, keep it up!
+that one guy you kinda know but not really cheers!!
A bit off topic but I just REALLY liked the footage you got for this video, it's taken very well and I'm glad you got all the drowner varieties !!!
I love you guys for posting The Witcher 3, I can't wait for more ;)
+Fifteenfirefox Games And Vlogs We love you too. Thanks so much for supporting it ❤
I dont know but they certainly aren't argonians.......
the drowner curse sounds more realistic than water hags and em breeding lol
This is just what this channel needs
super excited Fudgemuppet is doing Witcher lore now. Don't get me wrong I love skyrim and fallout but I started getting a bit burnt out, so it's good to see this channel applying its great story/lore telling skills to other games I love. Keep up the good work!
Your videos on the witcher lore and its background in real mythologies is what i was looking for ever since i played the game...keep up the good work
I just started another play through of the witcher 3. Love the deep lore in the either universe and this could totally expand your page more.
This is really cool, I love the background videos of civilian life in witcher 3. makes me appreciate again the way almost everything sways with the wind, and townsfolk go about their lives.
Glad you decided to do Witcher lore videos. Hope to see more of them in the future.
Holy shit, a Witcher 3 video?
I'd love to see a lot video on the Witches of Crookback Bog. That was the first big quest I did, and it really stuck with me.
This channel is all about my 3 favorite game franchises of all time. Subscribed!
Theoretical that drowners and water hags bread grouse thanks for nurning that image into my head
Thank you for covering the lore of my favorite books/games.

Absolutely love the Witcher Lore starting up!! Favorite series right there. Keep up the great work Drew!
What about the Water Hag?
Water hag is water type of hag not hag type of drowner- i think that it might help (I'm Polish and get the real original names and folklore so yeah) anyways happy to help
One of the baron's men said that hags are originally women cursed because of their bad behaviours & actions
Adam II, Know any good folklore/ stories it would be interesting to hear.
Hydrogen One you can look around and see if there is a translation of this book available: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Ancient_Tale_(novel) That's a pretty good start.
leave my mom out of this!
I really hope u keep doing witcher lore because it has so much but not many people talk about it
The thought of Drowners and Water hags smashing is horrifying... Thanks for that
Subbed and liked, man I love these subjects that adds so much imagination.
For some reason, there aren't many videos on the lore of the Witcher, even though it's great, I hope you do more.

You're right, this isn't a debate. But Skyrim was ps3
Skyrim was also made several years before the witcher. Both are very impressive games.
OK n'wah
Yes! Witcher video's! more please :D

Been subscribed for a while and this video series reminds me why!
