Other then checking on some Christian videos or cooking videos here, I don’t have any other sociable media as of Dec 31, 2022. I got rid of it because it is time consuming, addicting and ruins lives. It kept me from my Bible time and time with the Lord.
I been off social media for a week and decided to take a month off but I believe it will be permanent! Like you said it’s time consuming, a waste of time, comparison. I start comparing myself how my life needs to be better, etc. I notice like an impulsive behavior component being consumed. I’ve been battling this for years. I deleted Facebook and snap but have I have iG still. It’s become like toxic and addictive behavior
THIS CAME JUST ON TIME! PRAISE THE LORD! I was just talking to my mom last night of how I dont want this addiction and I want to get rid of it. Everyone has some sort of addiction RUclips videos and social media is mine.. the crazy thing is I hardly post on my own accounts but browse other accounts and youtube videos. These things that are so meaningless. Its a huge distraction in my life. I was so happy to see the title!!!
I'm supposed to be on a social media fast rn and it's SO hard. It's a shame how addicted we are to our phones and without it we feel empty. I've felt God show me how much time I've been wasting on it, that I can and should be spending with Him, my family and just being present💚
I think the key is basic things: boundaries & accountability. Boundaries could look like screen limits on your phone or having a checklist of things you have to do before social media time. Accountability could look like checking in with a friend or sharing your screen report weekly with someone. Also, I’m trying to do a “check in” before I go on social media. Am I sad? Anxious? Bored? Procrastinating? And deciding how I engage/not engage after I get some clarity.
Yes i was just about say this you said it so well, i literally tried fast it was way too much for me and i didn’t and i tried instead just like you said why am i about to go one the phone im i trying to fill a void only God can fill? And that’s helped me quite a bit.
I got rid of social media last year April 2022 and have not looked back. Since that time I’ve done a 40 day fast and half way through a one year Bible challenge. I have more time to do things like read books, listen to podcasts and exercise. I feel so much more at peace.
When I retired I thought I would do so many things. Many of those things were not available because Covid shut them down and they did not come back. I fell into youtube videos. I tried to fast from them like I had from TV. I gave up tv for two years it was easy. Giving up the computer was so much harder...It was like my brain was rewired or something. I can remember my students going into shock when I took their phones away. I completely understand this now. It is something in the media that makes and keeps us addicted to it. Thank you for your honesty.
I deleted Instagram 7months ago, mostly bc of time. It's quick that you end up wasting time. Now I only have my YT channel, where I can focus on ministry. Something to take note of, it's quick that you end up "wasting time on something else, even when your intent was deleting it. My tip is to have a clear goal of something you want to REPLACE that time with. Something healthy. Like reading or praying more;)
I deactivated all my social media accounts I just feel like no matter how disciplined I try to be it’s hard and I felt myself not being grateful for what I have, buying stuff I don’t need. I kept RUclips because I listen to sermons, use it for DIY stuff and like following Christian RUclipsrs. I did have to delete the app and only use it on my computer and web browser because the shorts make it feel like it’s Tik Tok. I am not sure the good outweighs the bad with social media. I find myself at peace and my mind is clear without social media. I also have gotten back into reading and just focusing on being present and living in the mundane.
I definitely want to do this with you! I've been thinking about setting aside a certain amount of time for social media for a while now, but never got to it. I'm thinking of allowing myself one hour from 7-8pm. Some things I want to pursue in the free time I'll have are reading the Bible/praying, reading, and doing more art (similar to yours!)
I totally agree! My boundary is 2 videos a day. And with movies, I include it as one of the videos aswell. Why? Because abusing social media robs us of truly living life and growing in other ways. Thank you for your honesty and courage 🙏
As someone who has grown up with Social Media, I’ve had my fair share of addiction with Social Media. I finally started taking a break after becoming conditioned to TikToks short form content and feeling down because of comparison. I took my first 40 day break from social media and made it 2 weeks without checking any social media page at all! During this 40 day ‘hiatus’ I replaced my time with spending it with God, reading His word, and praying more. I also found better ways to manage my time like decluttering my room, and listen to Christian podcasts!
Did u delete the apps off of your phone ?? .. everytime I try to do a social media fast , I delete the apps then end up downloading again 😩😩🙏🏼. I don’t wanna be addicted to anything but spending time in Gods word
Amen.Ashley I am with you. Social media realy take away our time and I will say to myself: I will only watch 2 videos and then read my Bible .It never happens and then I feel so quilty. The enemy knows how to keep me away from spending time with Jesus. I am with you will only spend 30min at night on social media.Thank you for this video. Will make more time for Jesus.
I spend so much time on RUclips. It's cool you posted this video because I was just starting to think I'm addicted to RUclips. I'm going to talk about it and try to work on it. You are so right about losing/wasting time. Please pray for me everyone. Thank you ❤
@@coffeeandbibletime I was thinking of removing channels I subscribe too that post stuff that I don't really need to watch, that's more "junk food" if that makes sense. It's really hard for me as I have health problems so sometimes I'm so sick all I can do is curl up and watch RUclips. But then when I'm feeling better it's hard to stop. So I thought if I limited what channels I watched maybe that would help. Thank you for the prayers ❤️
I’ve been feeling this way, I’ve gotten off of social media before and I felt good. I got back on and instantly got sucked back in. I love this talk about it & am gonna reassess social media in my life. Thanks!
This is something I evaluate for myself, too. I’ve come to make a checklist everyday of the things I wanna do and when I catch myself staring at my phone scrolling on social media, I look at my list and it helps me “snap out of it”. But even then, I know I can do better. Thanks for this reminder, sis! Your ministry is a great help to me.☺️ -Hanna
My wife and I were just talking about this yesterday and we went and got flip phones. We ditched the smart phones (helped our bill look better too haha), but my daughter is 9. We have maybe 9 or 10 more summers with her before she is out of the house. My son is almost 7 only a few more with him than my daughter. We dont want our time to be taken by strangers on tiktok or fb when we have our kids who need us focusing on them. Its not for everyone, but its the right choice I feel for us. Thanks for the video and all the content!!
I Just download an app that allows you to set limits of how much time you can spend on an app each day. And once you reach the time you have chosen it closes the app. I'm hoping it will help me be more mindful of what and when I choose to use my phone. This is my first day using it so we will see how it goes
@@coffeeandbibletime The one I am using is called Stayfree, and I am liking it so far. You can even get it to limit the time you use a website, not just apps.
I highly recommend deleting all social media(a side from yt). It's weird at first but the longer you're removed from it the weirder it becomes that you ever had it. Aside from business purposes I don't see the benefit. It creates a false, superficial sense of friendship, its distracting/addicting. It's good to ask yourself why you're playing with fire when it's so much easier to just not.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!! So great that you have found freedom! How is RUclips different for you from other social media platforms? How do you guard yourself from becoming addicted to YT?
@@coffeeandbibletime Aside from the more obvious differences, I treat RUclips more like spotify, so listening instead of watching. Well I only check my notifications on Facebook once a day and that's all I do on there. I don't have a cell phone because there's no need. I still only have a land line. I'm usually on RUclips twice a day to watch my notification videos and that's it. So I don't spend much time on social media at all. I think it's really a waste of time as you said. Besides sometimes it's just too much for my brain. I've got better things to do! Thank you for the video and I'm sure those who need it will get a lot of benefit from it!
Hi Ashley, may the Lord bless you from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic! I used to have social media for a long time so I beacme addicted to them but the Lord showed me that and I'm very happy because I don't have them!
What works for me is to set a timer on social media apps. I decided to give myself 15 minutes per day and it work great for now, (except youtube i put 2hours but i don’t go that much anymore). I feel less anxious and less stuck to do creative things 😅 Sometimes i go past the time limit but i went from 2-3 hours every day to 15-30 minutes!!! So it’s victory 🎉
I recently discovered your channel from looking up Proverbs 31 on RUclips. Your study came up, and I enjoyed your ENTHUSIASM for God's Word. Blessings to you and your family. ❤🙏
Thank you so much for this! Social media is not really much of a problem but still is the use of my phone, either for entertainment or games. But It is still a problem that I will be looking into 💖 especially since it tends to be a coping mechanism.
Thank you for the honest video. I also struggle with social media addiction especially RUclips. And my main issue with it is the same as yours, which is wasting time. I was actually also thinking of doing the same thing of giving myself a specific time of the day where I can go on social media. I still need to figure out what time of day though.
Thank you, Ash, for talking about this again, and thank you for being very real. I've tried to fast social media many times and failed that much. And one time, I got so drained up and decided to stop. So I deleted Instagram and Facebook from my phone, and the only app I were left with was Pinterest and Telegram. But I still have a problem with scrolling for nothing, literally for nothing. If you're familiar with Telegram, it is a chat app and I don't know what I do for those hours without chatting. What I understood is that we need to convince ourselves and make a decision in our minds. And lastly, there is nothing we will miss because of not scrolling; we need to know this.
I feel the same regarding social media. I want to take one of your Bible courses, read and workout more. So, I will be limiting social media to one hour a day.
I Literally put myself on a FB break lately, due to the fact that i have been "Spying" to much on people and getting consumed by negativity to the point where im not paying attention to my personal life. The cherry on top of me realizing that i had a addiction was when i was in Church and NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE SERMON!!!!! I kept looking over at my phone!!! Thats when i said "Yeah...i need a break."
I deleted my Facebook because it kept making me feel depressed, I’m going to delete TikTok next because of the same reason. All I have left is Instagram and RUclips but i keep everything surrounded by God on my Instagram so that part is good but it still takes up my time that I could be using to do something different like more time with God and prayer. I’m on the fence about taking out Instagram
This video is so good I have a social media addiction lol but u just mentioned pulling out your little book to help you memorize scripture but have you ever pulled out your bible at a dr appointment while ur waiting just curious cause I take mine LITERALLY EVERYWHERE Ty for the videos you and your family make for us
Thank you so much Ashley for sharing your thoughts because I struggle with it too. I don’t watch bad things but I really spend too much time on it 😭 May God help us be disciplined ❤️
Ashley, this is so good thank you for addressing this very important topic!❤️ A few weeks ago I also spoke about it as well on my channel because it is such a huge problem for so many of us. Thank you again!
As far as comparison goes, everyone has their strengths and struggles. There will always be someone doing better than you and being more successful and having more than you, there will always be someone who is doing worse has less and isn't as successful as you. No one gets out of this life unscathed. Not everyone is vocal about their struggles.
Thanks so much Ash! This vid was super helpful and I love the raw unedited vibe, which gives less work for you and nowadays it’s hard to find videos that are genuine and not super edited
Oh Ashley this is great. I am totally addicted to Social Media since my husband died 23 months ago. I have so many social media apps. I find I am doing nothing but wasting time. I need to take this serious, I never thought of it as an idle. I am going to delete some of my apps, and put myself on a time limit. I do enjoy cooking videos, recipes, crochet videos, and of course all your videos. Thank you!❤❤❤❤
Yes, I’m definitely going to do this for sure because I’ve been allowing social media to take over my time and life so I will certainly be implementing this into my daily routine! Thanks Ashley ❤🥰
Very informative! Thanks Ashley! And I agree about the courses you offer. I love that everything you need to succeed is there and you’re able to do it at your pace. It’s taking me a while but that’s my pace 😊 but I’m loving every moment! God bless you all!
Hey Ash, thank you (and the Lord) for this both convicting and encouraging video. I found the practical applications particularly helpful - set boundaries and focus on what you REALLY want to do. Devices can take up time so easily and our eyes always seem to want more. May the Lord bless our efforts for Him.
Hi, thanks for your thoughts. I wonder though our job is to serve the people, that is to share the Gospel with others online. This is very important!! There is alot of bad stuff and lost people online, but if we don't go on there to share the Word then we are not doing our job. I pray extra in the morning, I find I'm not so much on it. 📖
Good thoughts!! :) Yes, my job is on social media and I share the gospel on social media. I think that is a great way to be the light of Christ! - But for my own heart I have to set boundaries for the personal time I spend on social media (not including my ministry).
I dropped social media 8 months ago. I do not miss it. I dropped it to spend more time with the Lord! It sucks you in and keeps you from more important things in life like Christ. My opinion!
If you see something as a probelm id suggest getting rid of it completely. Do you actually really need social media? I'd delete socials that you get sucked into or just get a dumbphone where you can't acess social medias at all
The only social media I’ve had besides RUclips is snap chat and Facebook and I don’t have it anymore, I’m tempted to re download it but my conviction and belief is that in my personal walk it would be wrong for me to have social media simply because it is just another distraction in this world full of distractions, this is just my conviction I think everyone should have their own thoughts on this and Christians should take time to analyze what it should look like in their walk
I deleted tik tok this week but I’ve still been spending so much time on social media. I still keep myself busy but I always feel the need to have a video or podcast playing because the silence is uncomfortable and boring. I need to learn to be okay with boredom
Social media and RUclips are addictive by design. The tactics they use are the same that casinos use and the same that dog trainers use. Every time we use these sites we are rewarded randomly with interesting and exciting videos, comments, likes, and pictures. We are like puppies being clicker trained and social media is the trainer.
Try making a joint account for just you and Johnny only for close friends and family. That way you dont have any outside stressers or addictions coming your way on your newsfeed :)
Can you do a video on how you overcome perfectionism/perfect schedule/overcoming perfectionism with sin when it comes to expectation and daily goals we set for ourselves without setting the bar low?
I told this lady in a comment I would ask this & completely forgot about it. Can you put subtitles on your videos for your bible study course if you haven't already? Subtitles are beneficial for those who are hearing inpaired and whose first language isn't English. Also, if you ever want subtitles added for different languages, it'll be helpful.
I have found that once I get rid of one thing, another thing pops up to take its place. Such a struggle it can be! Sending hugs and prayers! It can be so hard and you're not alone! ❤
I definitely needed this 😂. It's so hard for me. I have been wanting to delete my Facebook recently, but it has helped me find a Christian women Bible study group and prayer group. I tell myself to check FB strictly for their updates, but find myself looking at videos, etc and i waste so much time..Ugh
The issue I have with social media is right now everyone is talking about future spouse and all this and I am still healing from Past hurt of exes and know excepting God in my life all I see is God told me to tell you this videos on tiktoc and all on my FyPage and ones where Hod brings back someone from there past and healed them it kinda makes me feel sad cause I am like well God you bless them with there future someone where is mine I am isolated and God then tell me my husband how we will meet but I just see all these videos and I get kinda impatient and depressed so I stop going on tiktoc and seeing it God told me again the other day don't worry about being alone cause as long as you got me you wouldn't be at all and it made me tear up but my question is how Do you not feel sad when every where you look it seems like people are idolizing Godly relationships you have to pray for them Fast or Write a journal for a person you Don't know who they are ????
Just let your self know how ridiculously shite it is, sorry for the language but that's what it is. I can't stand Facebook, I never see any posts from friends, just ad's and stuff I'm not following, I don't know about tiktok and all that as I don't use any of it lol. Strictly RUclips, but I see this as people see TV. Blessings
Thank you for this Video Ashley, I’ve been battling my consumption of social media as well and have had to place screen limits on apps just to stop myself from scrolling all day!
Thats when i said
"Yeah...i need a break."
This video is so good I have a social media addiction lol but u just mentioned pulling out your little book to help you memorize scripture but have you ever pulled out your bible at a dr appointment while ur waiting just curious cause I take mine LITERALLY EVERYWHERE Ty for the videos you and your family make for us
so amazing!!!! My Bible is SO HUGE that I rarely take it places. I usually use my little scripture memory book or the Bible on my phone!
Thank you so much Ashley for sharing your thoughts because I struggle with it too. I don’t watch bad things but I really spend too much time on it 😭
May God help us be disciplined ❤️
Same! Let's be disciplined together!!!
Ashley, this was so helpful today! I want to hear more about your scripture book that you showed us.
Yayyyy!!! SO HAPPY you are loving the courses!!! :))))

@@coffeeandbibletime Me too, I understand. Just keep praying to Jesus about this, he'll answer us! 🙏
I dropped social media 8 months ago. I do not miss it. I dropped it to spend more time with the Lord! It sucks you in and keeps you from more important things in life like Christ. My opinion!
If you see something as a probelm id suggest getting rid of it completely. Do you actually really need social media?
I'd delete socials that you get sucked into or just get a dumbphone where you can't acess social medias at all
This was perfect timing, and I’m in.♥️
Thank you for putting this video it helps me a lot in being discipline and grow in the Lord.
Mhmm this!!! I think having a list of things you want to focus on before going into limiting social media is soooo important!!
I deleted tik tok this week but I’ve still been spending so much time on social media. I still keep myself busy but I always feel the need to have a video or podcast playing because the silence is uncomfortable and boring. I need to learn to be okay with boredom
Sometimes we don't realize how addicted we are to social media, so it's a good idea to take a step.
No way ! This video came literally on time💕
Lovely video so helpful and encouraging ❤❤❤
Definitely want to do this with you.
I cannot WAIT to watch this vid
Totally agree, thank you for this video
I have been trying so hard to get that balance 😞
Not easy but am trying to figure this out as well
I don't get too caught up on social media, but games? That's another story!😊
Thanks so much so needed, i was just thinking about how much time I waste on s.m.
Thank you, Ashley, for the words of encouragement 💕 🤗
Loved this. Thank you
Thank you for chatting about this , it’s been on my mind lately .
What is the little scripture memory book you have?
Use the screen time app and have someone put a password you don’t know :)
Thank you for this honest chat Ash❤❤
I love you Ashley! I want to be your friend😂♥️
I did a month off instagram it feels great
I deleted my ig account some time this year. My problem right now is RUclips.
Really good video
God bless you for this video I need this video.
Someone struggling with social media addiction would be well advised not to think of going into marketing as a full time career.
How should we pray to overcome social media to spend more time with our lord?.
Is it just me or is the audio like a whisper on this video?
I am doing an 1 hr a day
Just let your self know how ridiculously shite it is, sorry for the language but that's what it is. I can't stand Facebook, I never see any posts from friends, just ad's and stuff I'm not following, I don't know about tiktok and all that as I don't use any of it lol. Strictly RUclips, but I see this as people see TV. Blessings
Hi, please read about Islam
Thank you for this Video Ashley, I’ve been battling my consumption of social media as well and have had to place screen limits on apps just to stop myself from scrolling all day! I’m currently reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer and so far it’s really highlighting how much media has had to play in our emotions. Would recommend to anyone struggling with social media addiction and addictions to their phones. 🤍🤍
