- A breakdown of the electronics of the 2022 XSR 900. There are 2 demos at the end with the Cruise control and Quick sifter in action :)
I do repeat myself a bit in the demo section. I'm new to this riding, filming and talking so I'm sorry in advance :)
Additionally the menu interface is somewhat hard to see because of the blacked out dash the GoPro can't quite focus on it. Thankfully the menu itself is fairly simple and its identical to the 2021 MT 09 menu so if you've seen that menu there is nothing new here. The most important and useful aspect of the menu is the Manual TCS profile. Realistically once you get the bike you're going to spend 10 minutes in the menu and then never touch it again until you need to service the bike.

"I'm not gonna test the cruise control at 160 speed" - that's reasonable.

The older model looked different, except from the seat, the new one uses the same display as everyone else uses, why not keep the round clocks, just make it bigger and easier to read, would make the bike more different from other models, which I thought was the thinking behind this model, this is something the Japanese manufacturer can not get right with one exception ( Kawasaki z900rs) where the design is kept flowing and proportionate for the model language!
If Yamaha wants to make a model different, they should go all in, look at Triumph with their classic line, beautifully designed ( although they lost the ball on the display of the Scrambler) should be the same a the t120.
I hope Yamaha will bring back the rounded clocks and make a model a bit upmarket, this model deserves it, that engine must be one of the best ever produced, period😜
Your if statement theory makes a lot of sense as to why people struggle shifting at the rev limiter since half of the time the throttle will be off thus preventing shifts. Could easily add an else condition for full throttle yamaha damn
Exactly. It takes a bit of time to get used to this quickshifter especially if you had a bike that had a more compliant implementation. I'm getting used to it more and more but I do have moments when I cruse at mid RPM's where I just want to shift down or up and I need to remember to actuate the throttle correctly. It gets me in those moments and brakes the emersion :)
When I had my 2017 r1 it had the same electronics and one day after rain I leaned too far and gave it too much throttle and instead of slipping under me it just nerfed the throttle and let me make my mistake without punishment. So after that I see no point in nerfing the throttle mode even for rain. The sensors save you even in top mode so why bother
You can also hold the cruise up button for overtakes

ive been eyeing the xsr700 as my first bike to get after passing for my license, but for future proofings sake, as well as having an all rounder thatll do well on highways too, im considering if i can get away with getting a 900 directly, especially considering the changes if the newer models and added electronics that people claim help with how tame it is possible to have it. thoughts?
edit: just arrived at the end of the video where you addressed exactly that :p very solid explanation. id be going against the advice of many, but im pretty considerate of the capabilities and people like you that dont solely associate engine displacement but have more nuanced take that have said this abt the 900 makes me think it can be done

Hey, congrats on the new bike.
Its a custom wrap from a local shop. The bike has fully PPF on all panels and LCD. The frame is ceramic coted and on top of the PPF there is the livery you see with red stripes.
PS. If you get your bike PPF'ed you can apply the tank grips over the PPF with no issue. I was concerned they would fall off but there sturdy enough.
It costed me about 700 euros to get it done but I said I'd try it out to see what works. Personally now that I know I think you should only wrap the upper part of the tank so you can protect it from chips that bounce off your jacket.

I’m thinking about getting an xsr900 but I just sold my fz07 because I didn’t like long distance rides getting blasted by the wind, do you think a tall screen and a slight tuck would remedy the wind noise problem on this bike?
Well I haven't found any good wind protectors. There is one from Puig that I've seen someone on youtube fit it to the bike. It looks decent. The default windscreen from yamaha is basically useless. You are super exposed to the wind on this bike... also note the seat is verry verry verry bad for distance riding...
@@raisingcane225 looks great! How’s the wind blast on it? It looks like it might be big enough to deflect wind off of the chest and maybe shoulders but then increase wind noise as it deflects all of it to the neck / helmet area.
@@Vanity7k I’m still breaking in the engine but have been on the highway (early AM, no other cars) up to about 100 mph for 10 seconds or so, and the windscreen makes a substantial difference - to me at least. It blocks most of the wind up to about the upper edge of my helmet visor. I use an HJC RPHA91 helmet with a Cardo Edge comm system and use earbuds with it. Those may help but I don’t feel the wind buffeting my helmet much nor is it overly loud wind noise.

@@Vanity7k I’m 5’8-1/2 with my StylMartin riding boots on and weigh 175 lbs. I will try and do a little test on the bike in the next day or two. I’ll get up to about 60-65 on the hughway, engage cruise control and take an 6”x8”’ piece of cardboard with me in the ride. While
In cruise, I’ll hold the left side of the handlebar and try and be in my normal riding posture (slight forward lean) and with the right hand holding the cardboard in front of my stomach slowly move it upward to better gauge at what height and where in relation to my chest/helmet/etc the Dart Marlin stops effectively blocking the wind. Will post those results in my thread linked above at the FZ09 forums. One additional note to be aware of: I am using a 20mm vertical riser on the handlebars from a German company called Voigt Moto Technik. It is just their straight 20mm riser, not another version they have which rises and also brings backwards some. Quality on the riser is great, albeit pricey but it gave me a better riding position than stock. At just 20mm I also had plenty of clearance with the cables and hydraulics on the handlebars without issue.
Would you buy a Tuono 660 even knowing that someone seem to have a few quirks?
I actually owned a RS 660 just before ... so yes the Tuono 660 factory is a much much better bike. I would swap the XSR for that in a heartbeat.
However its also important to know where I'm coming from... I do like a more agile and lite bike and I was riding sport, sport/touring bikes up until now ... this is my first naked.
The Tuono 660 also has a lot of wind protection for a naked bike. That alone makes is stand out from the rest of the lot ... you really do benefit from the wind protection when you go out and spend a few hours of more spirited riding. The XSR is a more intense experience and when the temperatures drop you wana go home ...

@@dry509 if your in the US make sure you have a decent dealer I would say that should trump your bike decision if you don't have your hart set on a specific model ... getting parts for bikes was a nightmare last year.
I had to wait over a month for the Yamaha OEM accessories to arrive ... I'm in a decent region of the EU and here Aprilia, Ducati and BMW's are easier to supply (given that were in a crisis) and the dealership/service network around me is fairly good...
So The QS Is Optional And You Have Turn It On ? Great Review!
The QS comes as standard. It is optional in the sense that you can turn it off in the settings. You can actually turn on/off individually for upshifts or downshifts. Is really nice.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Been busy with work. Yes actually because of the smooth engine in lower rpm's its actually ideal for commuting or in general a more chill riding style. I would say this is one of the better bikes released in 2022 ... depending on your riding style and if you don't need too much power (mostly in city riding) something like the Triumph Trident 660 would edge this bike if you want something lighter and more nimble for lane splitting...
Do you have aftermarket bars, or did you adjust the stock lower?
No this is the default position with the default bars. When you say "adjust the stock lower" what do you mean?
It's not like the mt-09 or mt-09 sp that have a ridiculously large raiser if that's what your thinking. The xsr 900 bars are positioned lower and IMO it looks a lot more elegant that also pushes you a bit more forward onto the bike. Its a bike that is designed for short distance straight pulls more than anything. Kind of like traffic light stop to light stop :)

Is it a lcd screen? Dosnt look like it to me?
It is, LCD's don't need to be full color lcd's ... for example search arduino lcd and you will understand.
