    Very well read. I adore this show, it's a pity he didn't make it to the end. Bill Owen was the right man for the job. He, Peter Sallis and Brian Wilde will be sorely missed. "So let's toast the vintage years, the last of the summer wine"☺

    I used to watch every show with my dad. He was getting along in years, and was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. I knew the week-end after he passed and I heard the theme song, I was gonna lose it and I did. Strange how something so simple as a comedy show can have such a profound effect on a life.

    bill owen was an accomplished lyric writer. try searching for a song he wrote called "so lucky" (in my life). it was sung by an english comedian called freddie (parrot face) davis. the lyrics are very moving, as a tribute to his wife (i think).
    R.I.P those of the cast who have departed.

    I watched this with my Grampy and Compo reminds me so much of my Grampy so sad that the actors who played Foggy, Cleggy n Compo have all sadly passed away, the new episodes after Bill Owen died were not as good to watch any more, the tribute epidsode to Bill Owen made me cry n when its my Grampy's time up (don't want to think about it but sadly no one lives forever) where he will sadly no longer be with me I don't think I will be able to watch any Last of the Summer Wine coz it will just upset me too much to watch. makes me upset jus thinkin bout it n typin it. Jus like Compo my Grampy will always be a ledgend, I have never got over my late Great Granny n my late Great Gramps but when I lose my Grampy it will hit me jus as hard as my late Grandparents coz I am very close to all relatives on my Mums side of the family.

    My father and I watched this together... LOVED it. When Bill passed and it was written into the show, I cried through the WHOLE episode. "Don't delete it Dad". The next show, the funeral, I cried through the WHOLE episode. "Don't delete it Dad". The next show, I think they had three honoring Compo, I cried through the WHOLE episode. "Don't delete it Dad".Then they put a new character in, too soon. The new guy was probably fantastic in his role. We watched it... I cried for Compo through the WHOLE episode. "Don't save it Dad".I've watched these beautiful tributes to the show, to the wonderful people that have passed through, touching us all. And, yes, I'm listening to the whole songs..."Save this video Dad".BTW, I'm from Kentucky, USA... My husband was from New Zealand and LOVED these shows so much... we never found it before he passed. But we are so happy he mentioned this show and more.

    Bill Owen, composed songs too, sang some in some of the episodes, the 1 thing we've all got in common, is death, with all the old actors and actresses of the early 20th century leaving us there is no 1 to replace them the actors and actresses from the 1970s on are nothing compared to those who started when Bill Owen, and the others did from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s acting started to go down hill in the 1970s with odd exception, the only real talent belonged to those who started no later than 1960s with the odd exception as I mentioned, summer wine had its zenith in the 1980s, 1990s once Bill Owen, died that is was it Peter Sallis, tried but without Compo, he had no one to bounce off, like Ernie Wise, when Eric, died his comedy career was over, I ask all Bill Owen, fans to check out his films he was in even the cameos, he was brilliant he was in Carry On Sergeant, and left the series when the Carry On crew put him in the background giving him small unimportant scenes, it's now July A.D 2022, it's still being shown on Drama at the moment they're with Seymour, like the great Max Miller, once said, there'll never be another

    @malador1952 Thats how we found it, public tv PBS/OETA. My buddy found it in 01 or 02. I think he was 19 or 20 at the time. He passed on the word to me, and I showed it to my grandma. She has to watch it every evening before she goes to bed. I think shes seen it through three times, if not more. It takes a great show to entertain people from their late teen years to those in their mid 70s. Last of the Summer Wine, Sherolck Holmes, Dr. Who (the newer ones), public tv is getting some things right.

    • @eyesopen1850
      @eyesopen1850 7 лет назад

      I knew a few fantasists when I was in the army and I understand that characters in sitcoms have to be exaggerated but Foggy was way over the top, both in FOTSW and LOTSW. Blamire was believable as an ex-soldier. He 'remembered with advantages' as Shakespeare wrote for Henry V's speech to his soldiers before Agincourt but he didn't have wild fantasies. My wife was a teacher for almost 40 years and thought that Seymour had all the mannerisms of a teacher.
