    I mostly agree with your advice, except on the capri vs. wide-legged pants. I think the baggy, longer pants make some women look heavier. Plus, those black ones look a little warm for summer months, fabric notwithstanding. Capris are a nice option because they allow some women who can't wear shorts thanks to ugly varicose or spider veins and cellulite to have another summer option other than having their legs completely covered up all the time. Granted, some of those Alfred Dunner matchy sets with the butterfly applique tops can really age women, but capris do help some of us feel that we have some cooler options. Cropped pants can be nice, but some of the lighter capris are almost as good as shorts. They don't necessarily have to be unfashionable or tacky paired with the right shoe. Thanks for the information!

      Agree. I’m tall and prefer capris. Love skorts but too short on me.

    • @garmtpug

      I find that cropped pants (which are now in style) to be just as cooling to wear as capris. I also wear wider leg crepe, drawstring pants and they don't make me look heavier. Especially with a cropped top that comes right to my waist. This style makes my legs look longer than they are! And I'm only 5' and it's surprising that this style does make me look taller!!
      I don't wear shorts of skorts which I think are just weird. For dressing up I wear a dress without a pattern so I have the same look all the way down my short body! And I spice it up with one bright piece of jewelry - earrings, or necklace, or bracelet. Only one piece! 🙂 My husband who is very honest about my outfits says I always look very put together and classy. He's a conservative dresser himself, so I trust his opinion when I wear more flamboyant clothing.
      I've found that if I don't wear what most of the women in the grocery store are wearing, I'm on the right track! LOL!

    I’ve waited 50 years for the high waisted wide hem jeans to come back. I loved them as a teen in the 70s, I love them even more now. Like you, they make my legs look long and overall they are so slimming. I weigh the same as I did back then, but it’s redistributed now. You’d never know it when I wear these pants. Hahaha.

    Hi, I am 68 years old. I appreciate your videos but I know I must pick & choose what advice I will follow because we’re all different & it has to work for me. First of all, I stopped wearing capris since I saw one of your videos last year and that was an excellent idea for me. I have big calves and that was a horrible look and it made me look dowdy. Instead, I have been wearing lightweight leggings that are great in the summer and also jeggings. These give my legs a longer appearance and I thank you so much for that. However, I continue to wear flip-flops because they are so comfortable on me, and they look right on me. I wear Nike flip-flops all over because they have good support and look nice and I wear dressier flip flops for other occasions. I do wear dark eyeliner because my eyes are my best feature. I wear glasses, & people can’t see my eyes without it. I am also long waisted and I’ve been putting on some pounds, so there is a certain type of T-shirt/shirt that works best with my body type that you did not show. Lastly, an important part to my daily attire is my hair. One thing I do have is fabulous hair and that’s because I wear wigs Each day I change my hair color, style, and texture and have such fun. I was never blessed with beautiful hair but now in my later years, I can enjoy it daily and I highly recommend wigs to your viewers. It automatically takes 10 years off my appearance. Thanks for all your help but I think it’s important that we all decide which advice works best for our own bodies and our own lifestyles. 🥰

    Hey, Serena! I have never and will never wear capri pants. I don’t have the legs for shorts or skorts, but I am in no way offended by middle aged women, or women my age, who have the legs to show off and choose to do so.
    I am having a ball wearing all of the cute, inexpensive clothes and shoes that I have purchased this year, thanks to influencers like you.
    The last time I got a pedicure, I got a fungal infection that I didn’t discover until I took off the polish two weeks later. It was an upscale salon, so I’m hesitant to go anywhere. I need to take a chance again because I simply cannot do more than a so-so job myself.
    Great tips, girl! I adopted the practice of using a brown eyeshadow as an eye liner a couple of years ago, using mascara only on the top lashes and using a gel-type semi-permanent eyebrow “mascara”. I would not be caught dead in public without some CC cream, and complete eye and brow makeup. Even when I was staying with my husband in the hospital 24/7 for weeks, I kept up the routine as my nod to self-care. My other life-saver was wearing an attractive wig every day.
    That, in itself, made my life much easier AND boosted my morale.

      If you get a nail fungus, dont bother with pharm drugs. I caught one at a pool with loose tile on pool steps. Only thing that cured it OVERNIGHT was a cup of vinegar dumped into a plastic foot soaker bin filled with a half gallon of warm water. I soaked both feet for 10-15 minutes...and it started to tingle and then it felt more rapid, then I will admit it stung...I rinsed under tub spout with warm water when it got to hurting stage, then towel dried feet. The fungus was completely gone by next day...and never came back! I had tried every over counter meds for 4 months!

    The wide leg linen pants make your legs look wider than the slim capris. Styles are fickle, next year they will be saying the opposite. The ankle wide capris make one look shorter. A person has to wear what they personally feet good in. I agree about the baggy tops.

    Hi Serena. I love your video. I’m 65 and trying to figure out how to get where you are going in my own personal life. I am disabled so I’m at home all the time. I would not be caught dead in Capri pants or shorts or dress because I have skin problems on the bottoms of my leg below the knee. It’s kind of a permanent thing-that I can’t do much about at the same time. I can’t imagine wearing linen flowy pants every single day all the time. I just don’t quite know where to go stylewise. I end up wearing sweatpants all the time. I live in a small small town so I have to do all of my shopping online. I’m going to keep trying to transform my summer look. Thank you for the video. It keeps me focused on a goal

      You really should try those linen blend pants from Old Navy! Girl, they are like wearing nothin'! They have them in wide leg and also just a straight leg. You'd probably like the straight if you're worried about them being too flowy. I have both styles...one is almost white and the other pair is like a flax color. Way cooler than warm-ups. Just thought I'd put my two cents in. Hope you take this advice in the attitude it was given...love for a fellow human being who needs to know it's okay to do a little something for yourself sometimes. 😊

    Unfortunately many women over 50 do not have the legs for shorts or skorts. Capri length pants are a great option for many women who feel comfortable in them to hide veins and crepey skin.

    • @StylewithSerena

      Who says we have to hide some veins or crepey skin? People aren't scrutinizing your flaws, they're worried about their own!

    • @oliverat1
      @oliverat1 7 месяцев назад +2

      I agree that Capri pants hide ugly veins and fat. I'd rather see a fat person's legs covered and not flapping about in shorts or skorts.
      I am a Floridian, and flip flops are regular wear. Some of my flip flops cost more than those ugly Landsend thick band sandals (which make your foot look squatty).

    • @pdodson4942
      @pdodson4942 7 месяцев назад

      The price of the flip flop doesn’t change how ugly it is. And to your point, almost any sandal that has a strap around the ankle makes your leg look stubby and your ankle look thick.
      Also, I am a native Floridian and a registered nurse with an orthopedic and geriatric background. Flip flops aren’t safe footwear. I myself was nearly killed (no kidding) when a (very high quality) pair of flip flops twisted on my feet and I fell down a flight of stairs. It took me several weeks to recover. I’ve had many patients incur serious injuries because they were wearing flip flops. Slides aren’t really any better.

    • @oliverat1
      @oliverat1 7 месяцев назад +2

      Well, I'm a retired Nurse Practitioner and have geriatric background as well. To me, I feel the safest in Flip flops. I've been in flip-flops and barefooted for ever. I'm 74 and never wear heeled flip-flops, which are unsafe. I feel grounded in flip-flops... just like being barefooted.
      Nice looking flip flops... not those ugly slides( which were called flip flops).

    Amen to doing away with capris - how we let someone tell us these were okay I will never know. Like you, I'm short - 5'1" - and I wear ankle length crop pants - very comfortable and much more attractive. I do also wear white linen"y" pants too. Plus some flax colored linen pants - these are so much more polished for wearing. I do wear a comfy tshirt/shorts when weeding my small garden or going to get mail, but pull on a pair of ankle length pants when I run to grocery store, etc. Thanks for the great tips! I'm in Bama too - and it's WARM and humid here folks...

    Sadly, I have to wear bottoms that cover my knees for my job as a preschool teacher, so capris are a must. I can't even wear flowy pants/long skirts without feeling like my legs are suffocating. I would wear Bermuda length if I was allowed, but that is a no go. Your Jane Fonda example is the same cut that my mil (72) has and that, combined with a color (sometimes blond, sometimes reddish) makes her look older than what she is. I am only 43, but have embraced my graying hair and get plenty of compliments on it. I wear what is comfortable, but also stylish and appropriate for the occasion. Thank you for these tips. I really need to get a tinted moisturizer.

    Yes, out with capris. I’ve started calling shorts that stop at the knee “half pants.” They drive me nuts. 🥜 😂 I’m 5’2” and I don’t need any help looking short. For hot Mississippi Summers I wear 4-6” inseam shorts or cool white pants. Enjoyed the video. I wish everyone in my town would follow!

    First video of yours I've seen. As a former dancer, I still have pretty good calves, so I'm keeping my capris, but I really do like those linen blend pants.
    Love your focus on looking fesh and in the know versus younger. I have things in my closet that are 10 years or more older as we were in a tight financial situation and the kids needed clothes more than I did. Working to gradually add some new pieces to update a little.

      Agree with you that Capri pants are never stylish. And, it is not about one's age, but style, so if you don't like Capri's now, you'll never like them. I was given a hand-made heavy cartigan (made somewhere in New England) when I was in my 20s....never wore it cause I thought it was so frumpy, but I thought that many many decades later, I would be "old enough" to appreciate this hand-made sweater that sat in my closet for a very long time. Well, never liked it even as an "old lady." lol. Got rid of it. Never was my style.

    Great advice. On your brows, there is an Elf product that is called "Wow Brow" that I love. It has fibers in it to make them look thicker and real inexpensive. Walmart has it. I use taupe and then shape them up and good to go. Yes, hair thinning is common and very tearful for people.
