I actually like the darker front dome , looks more sinister I just found this big chap and marvel legends black widow and crossbones at my local target It was nice to buy some figures since we're all under house arrest with this virus drama
No, you're not. I too like the darkened front. I was never a fan of the visible skull and eye socket because it was never seen in the original movie or any of the sequels for that matter. The only time you something remotely close to the skull and eye sockets is the human/xenomorph hybrid in Alien: Resurrection, and personally the less said about that creature the better. The problem is that almost every Big Chap figure that's been made is always slavish to the H.R.Geiger painting instead of what the creature actually looks like in the movie. As a matter of fact, the whole head should be darkened or actually painted silverish/gray because again that's how the head looked in the movie. The eye sockets and skull were not seen in the movie and as a result, the Xenomorph/Big Chap looked way scarier.

There wasnt just one head prop in the movie. from stunt heads, half mechanical and full mechanical jaw versions, to none mechanical. So paint varied, but all had skulls. The transparent dome would sometimes get fogged up. Plus the darkly lit interiors made it harder to see the inside. Behind the scene images and footage gives you a more accurate definition of the suit. People want the H. R. Giger design down to the last crease, because if it wasnt for that design, the film wouldnt be A L I E N .
Picked mine up at Target just today. The black varies on the figures I think, cause mine isn't as opaque looking. Also the facehugger is an entirely new sculpt, based on the Alien prop.
The facehugger is a completely new sculpt from previous NECA iterations. This one is much more screen accurate. Also, they may have darkened (although too dark) the alien's dome to match the one in the film where it is mostly opaque. Nice review! Now off to hunt Target and find one that isn't dogeared to hell.
6:15 I wonder if the reason why the dome looks different than the one on the box is because the 1/4 scale big chap is the one pictured on the box. The 1/4 scale xeno’s dome is smoked, but you can see the eye sockets. I know NECA pictured the 1/4 scale counterparts on the 1/12 scale movie Shredder box and movie Foot Soldier box.

The arms on mine are stiff & needed heat. The egg is definitely the big selling point for me. I also needed a default Xenomorph as all the ones I have are Kenner or DC themed.

Grabbed this one the other day. The Egg, Burster, Facehugger add decent value for essentially $5 over other Neca Alien line figures. The kids acted like the egg was Gold Bouillon or something......It is a nice egg sculpt. Wish the facehuggers had bendywire or something, so you could attach them to other toys' faces. Had to make polymer clay, posable facehuggers to appease the beasts!

In the movie you can only see the skull, hardly, if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't. I personally I'm glad that they finally covered up the skull. In every other alien figure or statue I've ever seen the skull is way too pronounced. Having a blackhead was one of the things that enticed me to buy this figure. It looks more movie accurate. I had the 35th anniversary alien and I got to compare them there is no comparison the detail on this one is far superior to the 35th Anniversary one right down to the paint job. There's so much more detail on this figure. It definitely is the Ultimate Alien finger I don't think we're going to see a better alien figure in this scale.
Only if you care what other people think. In the context of the movie, sure it doesn't make sense, but its still an alien, they all look very similar, so crazy with it.

Great review man! Gotta say though, I completely disagree about the dome. I'm really happy they darkened the front of it! My main issue with most Alien Big Chap figures is that they make the dome way too transparent, and the skull way too visible, that was my main issue with NECA's older ones, and the S.H. MonsterArts one... Yes I get that people want to see the detail of the skull, but it's barely visible in the movie, if at all... this just feels so much more accurate to the creature we see on film !
This is what the head looked like in the original, the only problem was the few scenes we got with it were all in dark rooms or tunnels so there wasn't enough light to show the transparency. If you look closely or pause in a few scenes you can see the transparency slightly.

I was getting stressed out watching you demonstrate the articulation of this figure. Thankfully none of the appendages broke off in your hand. I always buy two copies of NECA figures because of their QC Issues.
Looked at 10 targets in the last 3 days. Fuckin pissed I can’t find him. More pissed neca has been inconsistent with their info on this. Last week they told me it was once again delayed till June and now people have been finding it recently apparently.

The bloody version is $10 cheaper but doesnt include the egg and facehugger, But I think I may perfer that one.
Pop the dome off and remove paint, a spray can of matt of your choice and build it up in layers to your liking sir.
How would you suggest popping the dome off? Definitely would like to attempt this but am worried of breaking or stressing the plastic

The joints look loose as per for Neca. That waist joint is very loose fresh out the box.
I think it’s a factory thing with the dome. The dome looks perfect on the 1/4th figure
