I'm not too sure about that, sadly. Alien and Predator have disappeared from Hiya's website and they haven't announced anything new in, what, 2 years? And their latest releases are over a year old now. Their contract has either expired or they've done all they wanted now. I'm sure Neca will create figures from the Xenomorph from Romulus so there's that, though I'm saddened that Hiya's line has run its course. That's why I'm getting what I want from them while I'm still able. I was lucky and was able to snag a masked Scar from BBTS last year. I have the exclusive carded Big Chap and Aliens Turret set on preorder and hope they get fulfilled.
I've been slowly dipping into Hiya Toys and currently have 5 predators and the Big Chap and Grid. I like how there are key differences between them that actually translate well into toy form. Whereas the Big Chap poses well for kneeling, crouching and more contemplative poses, Grid looks excellent in more aggresive stances such as lunging, arms spread out and crawling. I like your comment about dioramas because that's exactly what I want to do with mine.. I have the Celtic predator and now want to buy Scar and the AVP Queen and create a "what-if?" alternate scenario in which they both survived and killed the Queen themselves, snowy base and all that. Thanks for making this. I had no idea there were Gamestop exclusives that homaged Kenner's cardbacks.
I'd love to see Hiya Toys' Aliens Colonial Marines Xenos, particularly the Raven and the Crusher. Of all my favorite is definitely Big Chap and the Predalien!
My belief as to why the Warriors lack the dome is that because of the host location in the Hive create a Xenomorph with a more skin tight head, to allow them to hide easier than a Drone, yet less armored, but better in large groups to protect the Hive, compared to the more lone hunters that are the Drones.
Great review highlighting all the line. I have the battle damaged PreAlien, Battle damaged AVP Queen and Aliens crouching Warrior... I hope Hiya gets the Prometheus licence and makes an Engineer.
Definitely, and if they did Prometheus, we would probably also get the Trilobite and the Deacon, and if they threw in a chestburster at som point, we would have a representation of every part of the creature's life cycle shown in the films.
No problem, they are fun figures, and it's really impressive that Hiya got so many out in such a short time. I wonder if they are pursuing the licenses for the Romulus and the fx/hulu show.
Totally agree that the AVP Xenomorphs are lacking. It would have been nice for every alien to come with face hugger and chest burster as accessories. Maybe even 1 egg variant. They just feel incomplete compared to all of the accessories Hiya's Predators come with.
Grandma did too much meth🤣 I hate the newborn with a passion, and that description is just so spot on! But I love Hiya toys, don't have much from them just 3 different jungle hunters and ED-209 but amazing quality, easily comparable to Neca. And like you said the 1/18 scale is just very neat for building dioramas. Would love to see a company make a Giger Runner fig someday, love the A³ runner, but Giger's original design for it has just something utterly intriguing imo. And ofc great breakdown of Hiya's Alien collection like always! 💚
Yeah, I was really disappointed when I first saw the newborn. I was like, you made us wait for another Alien film only to give us a muppet final boss? Though I could have forgiven it if it were the xenomorph's way of expelling Ripley's DNA, as that is a very "xenomorph" thing to do. Purge unwanted genetic material by creating a giant abomination hell bent on resetting the life cycle of the perfect organism. But I reject outright the idea that the Newborn was in any way the pinnacle of Xenomorph evolution. As for hiya, if you like the design of Cain from Robocop 2, their Robocain figure is maybe the best figure they have ever done. I can't believe the amount of detail and articulation they packed into that small figure. And it is really satisfying to play with. And yeah, Alien 3 will always be filled with thoughts of "what if". You know what I would really like to see is a whole line of Giger concept figures, probably prohibitively expensive to license, but it would definitely sell.
@@strangeform Yeah Ressurection was the first Alien movie I saw in theatres, and still today it leaves just a bad aftertaste in my mind mostly because the Newborn, even if it's description in the novelisation is actually very cool and terryfying. Also even if A:R is my least favorite of the Alien movies I agree with you that I like it for what it is, the change to a dark comedy fits a lot into the trope each Alien movie is its own, with its own flair and style. I agree with the level of detail Hiya toys offers, I find them just a generally a bit overpriced in Europe, not that I'm a cheap bastard but you know 30 bucks for a tiny Hiya toys figure, compared to the same price for a neca is just simple math to me. Still love them and their level of quality for the price and recomend Hiya a lot to people for whom Neca is just too large. Btw really excited for Alien Romulus and the FX show... not much known about the show yet, but Fede Alvarez's set picture at Alien day had so many on spot design elements, I'm quite hyped tbh... even if I like the prequels I agree that Lindelof is just a hack and really looking forward to what the franchise might be in new hands
@Razariel wow, yeah, 30 is a lot, they run about 15 to 20 here. I do think that up to 50 is fair for Robo-cain, but if it's between neca and hiya at the same price, you definitely get more bang for your buck with neca. I'm cautiously optimistic about the show and movie. On one hand, I haven't loved what Marvel has done, and am always worried when Disney gets involved. However, fox did a good job with Prey, and didn't seem to suffer from much meddling. And Legion is one of if not my favorite limited run series of all time. I think the movie might be cool, but I'm more excited to see the Alien universe explored over many episodes of an ongoing show. Plus, both the show and movie runners said that they are using the Big Chap and Isolation designs as a jumping off point.
aline queen lol avpr warriors didnt all share the same linage. the 1st few warriors were from egg samples aboard the ship. the following were from belly busters the hybrid implanted within pregnant women, those being the only that shared liniage.
Love this review! Thank you! Hiya's Alien line got me into collecting, I have almost all of them. I wonder if they will release new ones for the upcoming tv show and movie.
Ironically the aliens design for the xenos is my least favorite. I much prefer the smooth dome and the sleeker look to the original and the AVP designs.
Am new to your channel and oh boy you have made a great impression with just two videos I have watched. I own the Queen from the second movie and I don't like it at all :( Also own an AvP Warrior and two from the Colonial marines videogame. I started collecting Alien and Predator stuff 3-4 years ago and have quite a few figures from Kenner, Bandai, Figma, Neca, Hiya, Kaiyodo, Micromachines, McFarlene, Hot Toys and Konami. Definitely will continue to watch your content!
Awesome review I’m rewatching the franchise and was wondering if there are any relatively cheap alien figs (I’ve looked and a lot of them are like $20) I’m so excited to start a collection 😁
@stopwatchstudios9622 Different sculpts and these HIYA figures are between 3 and 4 inches (1/18th scale), and NECA figures are around 7 and 8 inches tall (1/10th scale). So, the HIYA line is much smaller than the Neca offerings.
@stopwatchstudios9622 Yes, I will be looking at several NECA offerings when I do my Romulus figure review. As for now, I look at the NECA Queen in the HIYA queen review, and the 1/4th NECA Alien Big Chap in my top 10 review. I also have a Runner/ Dog Xenomorph episode where you can see the size difference between many of the brands.
@stopwatchstudios9622 it's a colloquial way of saying the selection the company is offering. (From the Oxford dictionary, a thing produced or manufactured for entertainment or sale."Hollywood's latest offerings for the European market").
If you ask me, the colony planet setting is what the AVPR movie should've been and the 1st should've been set in the future. Because I honestly really liked the snowy arctic temple setting of the first movie because we don't get a lot of snowy settings in anything Alien or predator. Because the 2nd would've benefitted SO MUCH had it been set on a jungle colony world like BG-386 and add the colonial marines. THAT would've been the perfect AVP movie.
None of the sequels or spin offs can even come close to the original 1979, or my preferred version 2 2003 director's cut, of A L I E N. Everything in that movie it is hundreds percent better than any of the other movies. None of the other ones can even hold a candle to it. Aliens I do enjoy but I have issues with it I felt for one it was too long and very boring and a lot of spots. I did not like how they changed the look in life cycle of the aliens I'm not a fan of the queen. And my biggest issue with it is I hate the fact that James Cameron copped out and turn then into bugs. Completely taken away the magic and mystery and simply the alien out of the alien. I thought turning them into bugs was a great cop out. Alien 3 I love this movie both versions. But I prefer the assembly cut with the exception of two things from the original version, 1 I like the idea of it coming out of a dog better than the bull. For one if it came out of a bull it would probably be a lot larger and the bull was dead an alien needs a living host to survive so if the bull was dead the chestburster inside would also be dead. And I liked the original theatrical cut ending better as the chestburster rips through Ripley's lungs and she grabs it and she falls into the molten lead. Alien 3 also had by far the second-best alien design out of every other alien ever made. But you just can't beat the Big Chap. Alien Resurrection was kind of a fun movie. I actually felt sorry for the newborn at the end of the movie. And again I didn't really like the changes that they made to the the alien. It was fun for what it was. The AvP movies they straight out sucked. And again I didn't care for the changes they made to the aliens. And I don't like the idea of Alien versus predator it's too much like King Kong versus Godzilla. It should never have happened. But there is some fun alien action that makes them worth sitting through maybe once or twice. Prometheus outright sucked!!!! The Deacon was kind of cool looking. But what pissed me off the most is they made a space jockey a spacesuit. The space jockey in the original alien is an incredible design and it could have made for a very interesting-looking alien creature. In my mind it will always be its own creature and not some freaking space suit. Speaking of the space jockey Hiya really needs to make one from the original A L I E N! Alien Covenant again they changed the design of the alien but it's not as drastic as the other movies and it looks pretty cool. I also like the white alien. I think the movie is pretty good stand alone movie. Again some great alien action. I never knew this existed until about 2 weeks ago. My entire alien collection is all based on the original, besides of course owning all the movies except I don't own the AVP movies or Prometheus, the only thing I have in my alien collection that's not from the original movie is the most recent NECA Dog Alien. But I was so impressed with the detail and articulation of the Big Chap I decided to buy an alien from each movie. I bought one from Aliens, I bought the dog alien, the Alien Resurrection alien and the Alien Covenant alien. That's all I need. Besides a space jockey from the original movie. I ordered all those this past weekend, September 23rd 2023, and I should have them all within the next week or so. And I'm really looking forward to them. Great video! Thanks for posting it! 😊
I agree and disagree. Though I'm completely with you on everything after Aliens. To me those two first films are perfect representations of what they wanted to be, setting the bar really high for anything coming after. Alien is a Gothic "bump in the night" horror story, with Lovecraftian Body-Horror elements, framed in a unique setting. And aliens doesn't try to reinvent that, but rather addresses the classic war film genre by giving us Vietnam in space. Even though I really enjoy Alien three, it's not trying to do anything new, it's just trying to re-create the original. And the comedy aspects of Resurrection are what really rubbed me the wrong way, I might've enjoyed it more as an anthology "What if" side story, But as a cap to the quadrilogy, think it did more harm than good. Prometheus just proved to me that there are new and exciting reasons to hate Damon Lindelof, who I think has done more damage to the lore than the AVP movies could ever hope to achieve. And Covenant just sort of dug that hole deeper. I think the AVP films could've been great, if they were set on colony worlds in the future, like the comic. Bringing it to earth just undoes so much tension. I really think that the best storytelling outside of the first two films is many of the dark horse comic storylines between the mid-80s and mid 90s, and a few of the books. But I have high hopes for the upcoming film and TV series, especially the TV series as it is being done by the guy responsible for the Legion TV series (as well as Fargo).
The one issue I have with the directors 2003 cut of Alien is that the cocoon sequence has been inserted in the wrong place. Ripley should find the cocoon as she is making her way to the self destruction mechanism. The original outake footage sound mix, final script and even Jerry Goldsmith's expanded score confirm this plus it makes far more sense.
Now we're gonna have Romulus, and however that goes, we'd get figures!
