I love that swampy sound. More, please! and Thanks for your help on the never-ending musical journey. Your adventuresome spirit has led me down a road less travelled. After more than 60 years wandering in the wasteland of guitar incompetence, I still shuffle in the desert. Now, I only have time left for what really grabs at the soul. Yours does. Your well is deep, brother, You strengthen me, as I am sworn never to give up. Press on.
Wow Stephen, that's awesome. Glad to be a part of your guitar journey my friend, play on!!
Well done. You got the mood working with the slides. I think of the Dm tuning as a stormy/winter-like sound.
Great for a dramatic effect.
I took an acoustic old late 50’s / early 60’s Old Kraftsman archtop and rat rodded it with dual humbuckers, Bigsby, brass nut and a kill switch.
It has no truss rod and high action so perfect for slide in a lower tension open D tuning, easier on the neck.
Been practicing slide, lots of Jack White style.
Reverb, fuzz, slapback and octave effects sometimes.
Using it acoustically as well a lot.
Your open D minor lesson is just the type of music I started learning guitar for.
Dark, melodic song this one, perfect…
I’m 2-1/2 years along learning, starting a bit late at age 59 and finally feel like I’m getting to a point of playing guitar vs copying guitar.
For higher tension tuning like open E I’ve been using an early 80’s Vantage metal era guitar.
Thanks for a great lesson today.
Time to commit to your lessons and getting the tab for this and improve on slide guitar.
I’m just starting fingerpicking as well.
I’m 90% a pick picker at the moment.
Are your monthly reoccurring lessons billed on the joining day date or on a specific day each month?
Another great vid - I used look forward to weekends...now its Tuesdays. Love the Dm tuning too. More likes this please!
Great combination of fingers and slide. great lesson. thanks for the tab too.

Sounds excellent! Loved the video.
Cool Stuff John 👊🏼
I dig this one a ton!

This sounds great
Sure, sounds superb John
Yay! Swamp Tuesday!
Sound great.
Just discovered your amazing channel and I’m floored by the quality of your content! I see you’re already on a roll but I have no doubt you’re headed for the big time of RUclips guitar. Thank you so much for your work!
Thank you, Mathew! I appreciate that comment so much. Cheers! 👍🎸😎
Sounds great. I can feel a resonator purchase may be coming along!
Super 👍. Thank you very much.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Really like your lessons learning a lot
Glad to hear that! Keep on picking, Rick!!
My God. This is beautiful
Thanks!
Cool thang
This is the reason I got a resonator - just can't get that sound on a normal acoustic, and that sound....so atmospheric, something primeval about it, maybe it's the 'gators? Thanks dude, I'm a subscriber! Praise the Lord! : )
I've been looking for an alternative to open G tuning. Man, this sounds great.
Glad you like it, Matthew! It's a really fun tuning and great to explore. Have fun with it. Cheers!
Cool...I haven't solved my slide problem yet (pinky stuck/sweating lol). But I take one step at a time.
Thanks for sharing 🎶🎶🎶
What slide are you using?
@@BluesGuitarInstitute It's a glass one I bought in my music store. Dunlop 212, USA made. I use it on my ring finger.
Brilliant as usual. I love the D minor sound. How would you use a turnaround on a piece like this? I tried a couple of the old standard ones but they don't fit in with the mood.
Hmmm, I think I'd get a little riffy with it and maybe end with a low F on the 6th string bending up nice and slow. Just a thought.
I just bought a Recording King 991 metal body roundneck resonator to learn slide in open d minor. What string gauge works well in this tuning? Thanks in advance
Its Bill Paxton!
I love slide Blues so much! Where would you suggest a total beginner start? I am a member of BGI 🤙🏼
Thanks, Endo! I would start with the Slide Guitar Essentials course in the Premium library. That should get you up and running with solid technique :)
@@BluesGuitarInstitute thank you 😁
Gotta say this tuning isn’t really lifting my skirt. Still appreciate the lesson tho
different strokes. What is up your alley?
@@BluesGuitarInstitute open G is my favorite. I believe this dminor is the tuning Skip James used on Hard times killing floor. To my ear- this tuning just seems off
