Adam does a very interesting job explaining the central passage. All the videos about George and Martha and the mansion are absolutely amazing. Full of all kinds of interesting information. Thank you for sharing everything and taking time to make all these videos.
What an amazing and gracious gift, of a family membership. George Washington original leader of the Sons of Liberty. Against all odds, a man who gave our Great Nation Grace eloquence, courage and bravery. True leadership in the face of greater opposition. A legacy which continues today, in our time of facing a faceless enemy of covid-19. So many Patriots. The legacy of Sons of Liberty and Daughters of Revolution. God Bless our United States of America
I’m watching from Southern California. We went to Mt Vernon about 3 years ago. We absolutely loved it. I wish I lived closer. We plan on visiting again!
I am watching Mount Vernon from our own plantation, Woodlawn Plantation, Halifax County, Virginia. We love our Main Hall, and it is indeed the coolest room in the summer! We use our Windsor chairs as outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. We are still doing restoration work, but open for tours a couple of times a year. I am ready to visit Mount Vernon again!
When I walk around President Washington's house I always am picturing him walking in the rooms and feel connected to him when I touch something he may have touched.
I have been visiting Mount Vernon since I was a child. The changes in the home and the property over the years has been amazing! The best part is knowing that the changes are due to research and better understanding of the time period that Washington lived.
Indiana. I am interested in how bright they could get a room at night , using candles and kerosene lamps ? I also would like to know how warm it was in the winter ? What was General Washington's favorite room ? We were so blessed to have General Washington as our general , patriot , President and all around incredible human being. A vision of freedom might not have been visited on earth yet without this great visionary. He is an inspiration for anyone who strives to be a better person.
Ron Chernow’s Washington is a really interesting biography for those who haven’t read it. He also wrote Hamilton. The 2 bios give an interesting history of that time. Washington was really proud of the home and actually ordered things for it while he was conducting the Revolutionary War. It helped support him since there wasn’t much money to pay him in the field. He was really an extraordinary man.
Thank you so much for the tour... My first visit to Mt. Vernon was in 1946 or 1947 and again when I served as congressional page in 1950.I brought my children in 1977 during the Bicentennial to Mt. Vernon... I am interested in the dining room chairs... My late father-in-law was a furniture manufacturer who sold his business but continued to hand / machine make individual period furniture... He made a set of dining chairs(m daughter now has them) like those in the dining room and I would like to know the story of the chairs in the green dining room... Are they original, copies from a book of colonial furniture, or what? Thanks again for the delightful tour...
I am watch from a far off place called Idaho. And next to the state named in his honor. Mt Vernon looks like a wonderful place! If you ever give away trips to Mt Vernon pick me! Best regards
I have visited Mt Vernon quite a bit since 1969. One Christmas Day I saw the upstairs where Martha retrieved , after being a widow. Are you still showing it?
I'm from Gaithersburg, Maryland - I've always wondered this, but forget to ask. I know today we put carpet on the staircase, mostly for looks, protection and traction. In the 18th century was this the case? I know in those times carpet was done in strips so maybe it was easy to do. I look forward to your reply.
Probably had a handmade runner of some sort which would have been really expensive for that time or just left as is with the wood I assume. In the Chernow biography he found that Washington ordered things from Europe and other areas in the field for the home. I assume Martha reached out to him on some things and he looked for newer items himself. While at war for years he still managed to be active with MT Vernon. He was obviously proud of it. Chernow’s Washington is fascinating if you haven’t read it yet. Looks like the doorways are fairly short and narrow also. I assume this curator is fairly tall- if not, Washington probably hit his head often. The home is basically a center hall colonial.
I remember the dining room being a brighter green -- almost like a candy apple color. And then the curtains were this bright crimson red. Am I misremembering or did you change it within the last ten years?
You say Washington like he did the decorating; what about Martha doing the home decor. Wouldn't it be more common for the woman of the house decorate it? The husband might suggest but the lady of the house does it. Wouldn't that be the norm? Maybe they hired a decorator or architect to help them ?

We have always wanted to take a vacation to visit our first president’s mansion, so much to absorb stepping back in time. ♥️
I think George Washington was the greatest president we've ever had what he had to go through as commander-in-chief and then president.
I'm so thankful Mount Vernon was saved! ❤❤❤
thank you! very nice presentation

Really enjoyed this, thank you!! I’ll definitely watch more episodes.
Suggestion-dispense with the chyron (or relocate it)...it obscures the closed captioning.
If it’s not to late I would like to be included in the membership if not to late, thank you.

Why was the beautiful woodwork painted over in the Central Passage? 😲

@14:33......Washington never fought in South Carolina.
He never said he fought in South Carolina. He said this print was Washington at the battle of Trenton FOR the city of Charleston.

Hi from the Suttees in Tulsa Ok

But, but....I'm not on FB.
George Washington was a great president I am from Cookeville Tennessee

If a DNA test on Washington could be done, we could trace his personal linage.
Peabody Massachusetts
You need speech class so you can eliminate a whole bunch of "uh"s. Sorry if you think i am being rude but your are talking about George Washington!
Iowa.....gotta stop with the “ahhhs”...
This video could be so much better if Adam could reduce the number of times he says, "Uh", and, "Um".
It's so irritating, and a barrier to listening.
