    In the early 80's I was driving a 1981 VW Scirocco. I was running flat out on a divided 4 lane, at around 100 mph, when I noticed a red car overtaking me. For some reason it looked like a Mustang when I first noticed it at a distance. As it got closer I could tell it was not a Mustang and I saw the 4 rings (my eyes were much better then). It was a Quattro ( fender flairs and all). It passed me like I was sitting still. Years later, my son and I started work on the Scirocco (it was in great cosmetic condition). We stuffed a 5 cylinder Audi in it, nice little pocket rocket.

      I was at Waterfest when it was still at Englishtown ( 2000ish or so) and there was a kid in what looked like his mom's wagon, annihilating people on the strip. It was a total shitbox littered with Marlboro packs and Mountain Dew cans. A real rolling dumpster. I remember being perplexed when he popped the hood and it was just a (seemingly) stock 5 cyl. To this day, the "Filthy 5" is the only car I remember.

      I have a v10 S6 and the new RS3, and although they have about 10+ years between them the 5cyls feel way more visceral. Theres more “jaggedness” to the engine and its more of an experience that you feel through your whole body. The only downside of the 5cyl over the v10 is it is not as smooth, and after several hours of driving it gives me a headache lmao

And yes, the modular line (T5’s and T6’s) are monsters, they mix great mid and high end performance capabilities with stock turbo’s coming fully online at 2500rpm. The limiting regent of the T5’s is the turbo compressor wheel itself, the air flow and size of the turbos restrict our power since our turbo and induction layouts are different than conventional designs. Thus, in the focus rs mk2, P1,P2, and P3 Volvos, we offer a large range of hybrid turbos of a varietal of sizes and behavioural responses. They also can rev pretty high with bolt on cam modifications.

Liquid cooling was added in the 1984 models and I never had a problem with those. Although the turbo models had a lower compression ratio, since they had dished pistons, they were interference motors! Another correction! Audi's Pikes Peak gravel road record was broken the following year by a Peugeot 405 Turbo 16, and a dozen more times before the road was paved, FOOL!

    • @MiguelGarcia-vj7oo
      @MiguelGarcia-vj7oo Год назад

      @@jdllewellyn580207k is 07k, just like LS is still LS whether it's from a truck or a Camaro.... Of coarse they are different versions but still in the family of engine. Second your wrong, this engine is very underrated especially compared to the overhyped tsi family of engines. The VW 07k makes the same amount of power no matter the tuning stage but in a way more reliable manner then TSI. while still sounding like a an old group B quattro..... That is while the engine wasn't supposed to be tuned and VW handicapped the ease ability of tuning so it won't hurt GTi sales. Very impressive with all the context.

    • @jdllewellyn5802
      @jdllewellyn5802 Год назад

      Just like the Daza and the 07k found in rabbits and jettas are vastly different. Go put daza head parts in an 07k, its not a direct drop in. At that rate you can use all sorts of 2.0t parts like pistons, and some valves, seals, etc, but nobody calls it an 07k with one less cylinder. The list goes on. I totally get it, theyre cool man. I was one of the first guys trying to build an 07k into a c5 chassis in 2015 (07k, efr9180 using a split housing and a variable a/r, 01e trans, custom pan etc) and scrapped it because of cost vs just building my 2.7t for enjoyment and sold it off before it ended up in a b5s4 swap way later.
      While there is potential, my claim was that it has no more potential than any other base VAG engine. People have been spinning german 4 cylinders, 5 cylinders, 6 cylinders and v8's for years. All platforms carried a notoriety of modding.
      07k sounds nothing like a traditional 10v group b car did, hell a 7a, 3b, AAN or any 20v variant doesn't sound like those old 10v beasts, let alone the engine you mention.
      They aren't handicapped to make tuning harder, those ecu's have been cracked for years and OTS tunes are everywhere for them. Are the different from me7 and med variants before them? Well yeah, but so is every generation bosch ecu lol.
      At the end of the day they're great but I would say they're far from underrated. People new what we were getting, and the envelope was expected to be pushed from the beginning because it's what always happens. Case and point, look at every generation of vw rabbit, jetta, quantum, passat, fox or whathaveyou, and you'll see a modding prowess with a community developing it continuously further, base model or higher trim.

    2.5 R5 20v (EA855) is Volkswagens 2.5L inline 5 used in BGP/BGQ/BPR/BPS: Volkswagen Jetta (2005-2007), Volkswagen New Beetle (2006-2011), Volkswagen Rabbit (Golf Mk5) (2006-2007).
    CBT/CBU: Volkswagen Beetle (A5) (2012-2014), Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (2010-2014), Volkswagen Jetta (2008-2013), Volkswagen Passat (2012-2014), in the middle east in Volkswagen Passat (till date), Volkswagen Rabbit (2008-2009). Used in EA855)
    This engine was only used in the North American, South American, and is being used in Middle Eastern markets, as the replacement for the inline-four naturally aspirated 2.0-litre 8v. This engine was replaced by the GEN3 EA888 I4 in North America.
    The code for the engine 07K 7:07 this ttrs is just an Oem turbo charged version of the 07k

    It is a shame the newest Volkswagens don't come with the 5 cylinder. On the highway if you watch ONLY highway MPG you get 37 or more! I found that with my 2013 Passat when I took it down the highway. I reset the average MPG once I got to around 65 and set the cruise control . All I did then was adjust my speed for the few cars that were ahead of me. It is only when you get to a congested area that the number starts to drop. Ironically, pushing the accelerator some only seemed to make that number go up a bit! Logic would have you expecting the opposite and that is OK, we normally would think that way but that is why some people think differently!!!

    would like to make a few corrections here. RR/3B motronic is also M2.3.2 just like what powered the AAN, ABY and ADU engines. the later is just a revised version of the earlier ECU. the RR, 3B, AAN and ABY all made the same power levels. the real motronic M2.3 ran the audi 3.6 V8 and a few 32V 4.2 V8's. I know for a fact that all the 5 cylinder motronics are all the same because i have ran 3B ECU with RR software in it and it works plus i have modified 3B ECU's to run on ADU RS2 software and that also works extremely well when recalibrated properly. you gain things like the overboost function from the later ECU, better knock control code and a better diagnostic system when doing this.
    lastly speaking of the RS2 the MAF itself it is no different electronically than any other 20V turbo MAF. the only visual difference was that a screen was added to the ADU MAF for turbulence across the hot wire. what really made the difference in the ADU RS2 pertaining to the MAF was that R201 or resistor 201 on the bottom side of the boost board which is the voltage divider circuit for the MAF was changed to a 6.5k ohm resistor from the AAN/ABY's 6.15k ohm resistor. this modification was made for the RS2's larger injectors and 3.8bar fuel pressure regulator. what this does is change how the load is calculated when the ECU is in open loop boost/fueling acceleration. they did this because the ECU software itself actually doesnt have an injector constant. bosch had to make the change for fueling on a hardware level instead of software than compensate for this over all in software by rescaling the load axis's on the tables and values that used load itself. take it from me, i know more about this motronic than bosch does at this point.

  • @ryanrich9186
    @ryanrich9186 2 года назад +6

    Simply put, this is all great info, but here's the fact based of simple physics. It's an inline. V platform motors make great power, can't deny that. But the most simple and basic factor will ALWAYS dominate with any oscillating piston engine. Inline configuration, any way you look at it is more efficient because of the elimination of multi direction torsion present in ALL v platforms.

    • @jason.arthur.taylor
      @jason.arthur.taylor 2 года назад

      How is efficiency related to where in the crankshaft's angular turning that it gets torque? Why, for example, do you think that a V4 less is less efficient than an inline 4, assuming the bore and stroke are identical?

    • @ryanrich9186
      @ryanrich9186 2 года назад

      @@jason.arthur.taylor in a v4 platform you still have 2 different banks pushing in 2 different trajectories... I'm not saying that an inline 6 if going to burn less fuel than a 4 banger... apples to apples, I would take an inline 4 over a v4 any day. An inline will always be more efficient.

    • @jason.arthur.taylor
      @jason.arthur.taylor 2 года назад

      @@ryanrich9186 "in a v4 platform you still have 2 different banks pushing in 2 different trajectories" Ummm. Isn't torque torque? Since when does torque care about the angle? Are you saying you need less of a flywheel? I think the opposite could be true.

    How different is the 2.5L I-5 used by VW in the 2000s&2010s?
    I was familiar with the Audi I-5 rally engines, so when i looked under the hood of the passat owned by my GF at the time(now wife) I was surprised to see too many intake channels lol.
    By my quick google search, I can find the CBU engine(that i think her car has) has pretty much all the same specs as the EA855 used in the TTRS, with the big difference being the turbo.
    Is the only difference between these a turbo, tune and (maybe) cams?
