What a gorgeous clip! The most brilliant & natural of musicians in his element, acting it up to the hilt. A true period piece, backed up by real quality in the music-making, impossible to imagine today.
I love this concerto and think this is a great moment in movie history, showing a pianist-conductor at work. One could forget it's 'only' a movie until little Margaret O'Brien shows up! Iturbi is magical as ever...
The little girl is indeed Margaret O'Sullivan and at a guess I think this clip comes from the film"Thousands Cheer'' which is available on DVD. A recording of the concerto by Irturbi and Orchestre de l'Association des Concerts Colonne (Iturbi conducting from the piano) was issued on French Pathe Marconi (Columbia) 33rpm LP. No. FCX794 which I have and also in other countries on Columbia and EMI Angel. It turns up from time to time but tends to be expensive due to its rarity.

I just saw one movie, where Iturbi played. But it was enough to remember this fabolous player forever.

There is a recording of the Grieg piano concerto by José Iturbi on 33' record. You'll still be able to find it sometime on e-bay.
Truly brilliant!!
I like the way he sprints back to the piano just in the nick of time! Too funny!
Iturbi is the best, ever !
I wish I could hear him play the entire concerto.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE ! :)
fast finger pianist of the century

this is the Reprise and not the beggining, is it not?
What happened in the end? Who was that child with the chair?
Margaret O'Brien
Haha, he's got guts.
