My kids LOVED this game. First, because there wasn't that many speech/spelling games available for ANY system in 1983. Second, because they loved to hear the Wizzard pronounce "bad": words. Spell f-a-r-t! Better pronunciation from the Wiz was to spell p-h-a-r-t. Spell p-o-o-p, etc! I really enjoyed my kids laughter from misusing the game like this. In a weird, round-about way, they actually learned to spell from this game and loved doing it!
Dude thanks for the video. Word Wizard was the bane of my childhood. When I was 6 my parents cranked the difficulty up to 4 and made me learn! The controls sucked so hard I never found all the crystals dammit!
Oh man, haven't seen this game in over 30 years. I had this back in the day on floppy, it was a puke green 5.25" that Timeworks used for my copy. One day at summer camp, where they had a bunch of Apple ][e machines, I put it in there and tried messing around, having no concept of file systems and incompatibility. Needless to say, that was the last time I was able to play it. Now to find an emulator and back into spelling!
I had this game for my c64 when i was a kid. now like 30 something years later when im helping my kids study for their spelling test i say almost but not quite in the word wizard voice when they get an answer wrong and nice work see you later wa wa wa wa they get it right. This is coded deep in my programming and really cant help it. I guess i took over the job of the word wizard it is way easier when i have the answers in front of me. I just sit down with my kids and go over the spelling words with them instead of telling them they suck and buying them a computer game . It seems to be working ok but I suck at spelling so every time they get a new word right im like holy shit good job see you later wa wa wa wa wa. My kids make the wa wa wa wa noise now on their own. I showed them the video and they were like wow dad that is just awful excite bike is better than that. EXCITE BIKE WONT TEACH YOU TO SPELL! SHUT UP KID! SMACK! NOW GO FIX ME A TURKEY POT PIE!
Hey is it possible for you to film the game without talking and upload it?? I really need this footage for a project!!! Can you email me and we can discuss it?
thanks for posting this, but I wish you didn't have to use the swear words so I could so it to my 6-year-old. Don't think he needs to ask what that means quite yet. Awesome tho, this was the first computer game I ever played!
This is my old channel and long ass late reply, but my daughter was 2 yrs old at the time, and you are naive if you don't think kids don't know these words already. When I was a kid I knew this stuff even before the age of the internet and in a very strict Christian family.
We were enjoying your video right up until your first intentional misspelling. That wasn't necessary. This was a great game that we got for our son. Anyway, we didn't bother with the rest of your recording. What a shame to be so crude.

Everytime I see a thunderstorm rolling in I think to myself "It's getting DARKER!"
Hahaha brought smiles to me, for some reason this morning, out of the blue, I remembered and was thinking of the intro "I am the word wizard..." 😁

How are you playing this game? Where can I play it? I have a standard HP computer. Can we download old commodore 64 games to updated computers?
