Very clean shop
Ya those 65% yards are tough but it keeps me humble for when I pull out those 95% yards lol
Those are nice well mannered bees. I’d say nicer than some of what we have up here. If I could I’d buy packages for you in a heartbeat
Efficiency! 😂
People gotta feel cozy buying beeez
Efficiency is all I could think of in the moment. Probably should have said "organized chaos". 😂 👍
Ha ha ha , no, I said efficiency three times before you said that! But I agree, organized chaos probably fits the bill from your perspective.
It is sure nice to watch a positive video like yours first thing in the morning. I’m
Afraid I’m stuck in a doom and gloom tone on mine. Hope the Sun shakes more positivity into my videos shortly
And BTW, I look at my shop and then I see yours, I whip myself everyday to try to achieve your standard of organization and cleanliness.

I don’t know how you find the time to make a weekly video but I’m glad you do
Bob, those young kids and young adults just don’t realize how lucky they are to have the privilege to work with you! You’re so knowledgeable and so kind and good to your employees!
You're so right! Bob is a role model to all of us who might manage people from time to time.
Love it Bob, thanks for taking the time. I know you’re awful busy, and I also know how much time shooting and editing takes.
Yes indeed and the content you're putting out is a lot more than me. Thank you.
Bob has an advantage though, he has Seth as cameraman who is a great beekeeper himself, so he knows how and where to stand to get the great shots. Bob is so easy going and experienced in talking to people on and off camera, he is very easy to video as well, like a natural movie star that never needs to rehearse his lines to get a great first take. 😉👍👍👍🍑🍑🍑
@@carlsledge3868 Thanks for the kind words but you haven't seen the video that doesn't make the grade. 😄
After 45 years of being interested in bees, I have taken the plunge and now have 2 sets of boxes waiting for spring. A dear friend sent me to you to learn. Northern UTAH. Thank you for making videos.
"I'd buy this one!"
You guys are amazing.
I love these "Day in the life of" videos! Thanks, Bob!
Hi Bob, thanks. I've got 15 yrs under my belt, usually 40 (+/-) hives. For ten of those years, I've been marking queens with "Florescent Colors". Florescent Acrylics from Michaels or Walmart. - See them thar queens 50 ft away 😮
Awesome Video Bob,
I love how you can work those nucs and talk to the camera at the same time.
I really appreciate you sharing your standards and expectations for both your product and your people. Your videos are very motivating. Thanks foe sharing.
Thanks 👍
It also makes the nucs nice and presentable to the customer with the boxes not all weathered from field and work. It surprises me you don't ink/paint stamp the boxes with your logo, free add space and great for contact info. Ty for another great video Bob, Blessed Days...
That's a good idea. You may see that in our videos next spring.
Bob, you make it look easy. A lot of work. I only have 25 hives with a job, and it's killing me, but I enjoy it.😊 Thanks for the excellent videos.
A day off from bees here today after sweating my backside off out there in 85 deg weather for 4 days with customers wanting nucs days ago. It's raining and cold so a no guilt day cleaning my reef tank... enjoying my neon dottieback swimming around her new rock, xenia pulsing, new brain corals happy and fully extended. And wham ya'll come on you tube with bees buzzing and building nucs. Gruurrr!!! Guilt returns! I am out the door stapling waxed nuc boxes and listening to the rain on the bee shed. Cuz I can't bare the guilt!!!!
You have an amazing operation! I've been to that party with complaining neighbors before. Glad to see you're training up new workers. All that work is making me tired and might have to go take a nap soon. 😊😊
Fantastic C. C. Miller quote. Surely puts our own personal plans into perspective.
A motto of watch and learn.

Good morning Bob, woke up early this morning with a bad tooth ache , started watching your video and really got into it and took my mind right off that pain, awesome video always love the nuc process of beekeeping. Thanks for sharing your operation it really helps the smaller guys out. God Bless
Yet another excellent course from BBU (Bob Binnie University)
I wish I lived nearby, I'd love to volunteer just to learn as much as I can from Bob, a real treasure and an idol to look up to.
Thank you bob for sharing your life with us !
Great video! Really shows how hectic a beekeepers life is in the spring. Folks just don’t realize the labor that goes into producing a nuc or a jar of honey. Bob, you are truly a great mentor to those of us who are on the hobby side of beekeeping. Thank you so very much for your content.
All these different types of foundation is good. Gives us option and completion amongst these producers. Competition helps drive innovation, that gives us better product.
Hello from Romania! It's a pleasure to watch your videos. I learned great things from these videos.
Very nice nucs. Love your operation. Thanks for the videos and all the information provided. Take care.
Something that come to my mind. You replace your queen's every year and that's pretty much what happens naturally in the wild. When they swarm the old queen moves on and a new one is born and sometimes she's replaced after they find a new home. Agriculture, it's our friend and enemy, lots of farm ground where I live. Soybeans, cotton, and corn. Lots of chemicals sprayed where I live.
Good stuff Bob, thanks for sharing with all watching! So many uses for Nucs. Good job 👍
I love your work Mr bob, i wish i could come work for you to learn and get better
thumbs up for the clip of the boy interested in beekeeping as a career, very nice encouragement bob this may bee my highlight of the day.
Thanks. Ami is an interesting boy. I think he may just do it.
@@bobbinnie9872 my friend Paul got into bees as a young man as well he has had up to 100 beehives but this year he bought out a commercial beekeeper and has 200 double deeps coming from Texis next Friday along with 230 queens coming shortly after. I can tell Ami will move forward as a beekeeper, he mentioned how fast paced it is and he is taking notes.
Great great video Bob. ! Thanks for the queens I picked up thurs 13 th 30 splits over double screens and 20 in nuc boxes next year I’ll do them all double screen I like that method better I believe , I made another 50 nucs with my own cells as well. Always look forward to your videos Bob I've learnt so much more than you would even imagine. I have a guy that comes out to Lake Havasu City Arizona. He's always wanting to help me. I'm kind of scared of that because I never had anybody to learn from itself books on RUclips. You're the best. Thank you.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too!
This might be my favorite video of all. I love making nucs and splits here in NC. I'm just on a much smaller scale than yall. Lol. Thanks for sharing Bob! Love it!
Thanks.
Great video again Bob! Wow, 15, I wish I was that young when I started to learn about beekeeping! Like they always say, I wish I would have started this a long time ago! He's gaining so much experience working/ helping you! That's gold, not sure he realizes it yet, but he will someday when he looks back on his start!
I like the ultra fine Posca tip markers. I couldn't get a red this year, so I bought a florescent orange. We'll see if that one is more visible.
I really enjoyed the comments/insight about how many different methods work and how as production beekeepers you have to keep moving. As hobbyists I'm sure we quite often get wound up in a lot of things that probably don't make much difference to the bees! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Very informative video. I like that you brought up CC Miller. He has some very good methods.
I couldn't agree more. A book worth reading.
Great video, Bob. In the part where you switched positions for a population boost, I was looking out the window at 2 nucs, one week and one strong. I walked out and switched them. Problem solved. Thank you.

great video Bob!! can you consider doing a video on feeding bees in a jester....what you use that is secure. ....thanks!
Mr Binnie, I've really enjoyed watching your videos and I learn something every time. I have one thing I'd ask if you. Could it be possible for you to mention temps as you do different tasks. As a newer beekeeper it would help to have that as extra things to look for. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks for reminding me. There are times when this would be helpful.

I have been using Fluro Red which seems to working well
Mark the one with the broken frame 50% off, I'll buy it😂😂😂😂😂
I don't like the Permadent foundation, either. I found the bees didn't necessarily follow the pattern and drew drone comb on it. I like Rite-Cell, but I prefer Acorn to all that I've used.

Were the queens that you added to make all these nucs up already mated queens?
Thank you so much for the information packed videos that you release! All of your videos have helped me learn so much!!

Hi Jeff. Yes, the queens were laying when caged for shipment to me.
Seth must have moved some bees down to Greenbow, Alabama 😂
There and back 😂👍🏻
Great video!! But I’d like to know who folds all those jester boxes, especially the small crease in the lid? Who ever it is needs a raise. Lol😂😂
Jesse does the majority of them. He's got it figured out.
Hi Bob, thanks for the video, very informative. Are most of your nuc sales for commercial operations or for hobbyists? Thanks mate!
In the past most of my nuc sales were large orders that were mostly bought by people reselling them. Today we only sell them at our store location and they are mostly purchased by hobbyists or side-liners. This is self serving because it brings more traffic to our store.
Curious what your top 5 books on beekeeping you'd recommend. I just ordered Fifty Years Among the Bees. Thanks for all the free and endless information you provide in your videos!
Not what most people would choose but "Fifty Years Among The Bees", "Breeding Super Bees" by Steve Tabor, "The Hive And The Honey Bee" and "Health And The Honeybee" by Charles Mraz are some I recommend.
@@bobbinnie9872 Amazing! I’ll start plucking away at this list, thanks again
The neighbor was entertaining guests the other night.
Bees don’t forage at night. 😂
Hey Bob, so I've gotten into the practice of checking the nucs the day before, capping them at night, putting them inside under a fan, then encouraging the customer to get them in the am so they don't try to chew their way out. Is capping the nucs at night to avoid forager loss just not practical for a large business? Seems like all the opening and moving them around during the day could weaken the nucs.
I want to buy 2 vsh Italian queens. Any suggestions for a reputable breeder? I knew I wanted to be a fighter pilot since a little kid and I’m 46, almost retired🇺🇸 That kid is surrounded by the best mentors instilling the best atmosphere to learn. Thanks for the Sunday Service Bob.
Cory Stevens. He should come up in an online search.

Great video
Could you make one about plastic frames ?, i use wood ones and i have seen plastic frames and its interesting
I'll be mindful of that suggestion. I've used them and they work good but personally I still prefer the wood.
Nice set up. Thanks for sharing. Question do you ever have bear trouble in those nuc yards?
The two yards shown with nucs seem to be OK due to their location. Most of our yards need electric fences.
Ha Bob the video was great always watch every thing u make but u know me I always have questions. the yard that u were in with the double screen boards that u talked about using the top box to requeen the bottom do u just remove the board and let them fight it out. and the sec question the yard where u were puting q cells in every thing if u found the queen or not what happens with the hive with the cell and the queen in the same box as always thanks so much for the videos u make they are great and I am learning a lot from u God Bless u and your crew and family
Hi Frances. We have used those upper nucs with new queens a couple of ways. If we have time we will try to find the old queens before introducing the nuc. At times we will just pull the double screen board and let them figure it out. The new queen usually ends up being the survivor if done right.
@@bobbinnie9872 wow how cool is that makes it easy Thanks and have a blessed day
@@bobbinnie9872 I just bought 15 of your double screen boards going to get them Sat, I have 13 queen cells going to use with them thanks for every thing hope it works what I have is several spotty queens and of course I cant find them so going to let the cell hatch out on top and pull the board like u do and hope for the best. your thoughts. would be nice
@@framcesmoore Hi Frances. It's helpful to find the queen and remove her if you can. It helps to insure success in requeening. If you are just going to pull the board the nuc needs to be well developed for success. The bigger the better. Good luck.
@@bobbinnie9872 thankyou I am going to try and find the queen 1 more time Bob Thank you so very much for taking your time and answering my questions have a blessed weekend
i marked my 23s with bright orange instead of red cause i cant pick up red like the other colors...
Thanks Bob for all the info!! Quick question, I am moving bees for apple pollination in the next 2 days. (18 hives) At night, will be in the 40s, on 2 way pallets, and a loader. Question, closing the entrance? Last year I did, but is this necessary? Will I lose lots of bees? Don’t think you or Seth do this when moving bees? I do have a screen bottom built into my pallet. When I look online they recommend it? Thanks much for all time you spent mentoring!!
We generally move bees in the dark or cold weather without screening. No problem. Screening would be OK along with a screen bottom board if the colonies aren't too big.
Thanks Bob!
What do you do if you find queen cells when you're transferring to the sale nucs from the yard nucs, scrape them off or swap them out?
Last year I wound up with a nuc that was a bit late and my supplier warned me, was unclaimed by someone else, so it already had some swarm cells in it so I made a split right when I installed it, and it would all have worked out ok if one of my mom's hives (we share a bee yard) hadn't gone on a robbing spree and invaded my weakest hive, then when I locked them out of that, they went for the next weakest one after something (probably me) knocked the entrance reducer open too far... but we've learned. And I'm splitting her hive of bratty robby bees this spring to get my bees back, just waiting for swarm cells or the dandelions, whatever happens first.
It depends on how far along the swarm cells are and what the reason is for it to swarm. If it is trying to swarm without crowding I would hesitate to sell it or even use it myself for that matter. If it is really overcrowded and the cells are new we would relieve congestion and remove all cells. We also recommend to customers to check for newly started cells when transferring their new nuc into it's full size box.
@@bobbinnie9872 Makes sense ,if they're going to be swarmy when not under pressure, you don't want them in your yard, you don't want to sell them and you don't want the genetics passed along.
Have you tried "motherlode "brand foundations made in California? The company guys are awesome, I'm just trying them out
I've not tried them yet but intend to.
Nice video Bob. The cabin owner does not sound like.a native.?
You right but I have never asked her that question.
300yrds away and complaining cause his city folk friends dont like bugs😂😂. That guy sounds like a great neighbor to have
Ah, heck no!!! But what do you do when it's the owner of the land agreeing with the neighbor. Sad, really. .
Wait until he finds out that yellow jackets are not his bees.
Hi Bob quick question sorry with everything being busy I don't mean to take up a lot of your time. Do you know if a 3# package of bees will leave a layens 14 frame hive or the like because of the size is it likely for them to abscond... Is it better to start with a layens 6 frame Nuc size? Then transfer the frames? Thanks for your time love the videos keep it up
I'm not very familiar with a Layens hive so I couldn't say.
Seth better watch out for copyright.🤣I'll bet your crew if fun to work with.😂
I generally stay out of the fray but the crew is joking much of the time.
How long does it take to get use to the stings? This is my second year and my stings still swell and itch for a week or longer.
New people that come to work for us seem to do better after a few weeks of occasional stings.
Hey Bob great vid! How many ten frame do you try and run for your honey operation?
We currently have between 1500 and 1600. It can go up and down depending on sales and splitting.
@@bobbinnie9872 Thanks Bob love your videos!
I like to comment here because people are quite civil towards one another.
As for foundation I use whatever is on sale. I prefer the wax less foundation and have always done well with it. I did try the waxed foundation and never saw a difference. Others will disagree.
I find the dadant foundation to be thinner in material. Has anyone found that to be true?
Hey Bob! Where might I find the sold piece jar lids to buy in bulk? For some reason I can’t find them anywhere around me.
Dadant, Mann Lake and most bee supply outlets carry them.
How do you prevent theft (from people) in your yards or do you just take the chance?
We just take the chance and so far we've been lucky.
This will be my first year building nucs to sell. Mostly a Sas/Carni hybrid. Im located in north central WV Randolph County at about 2500' in elevation. I went into winter with 40 colonies and came out with 36 by the time winter was over. Im pretty proud of that as a 4th year bee keeper. The mild winter and early spring has created a situation for me I was not prepared for. They are growing extremly fast its hard to stay ahead. Im hoping to get to 50 double deeps along with 25 nucs this year. I really want to be able to sell 50 nucs on a yearly basis 25 over wintered and 25 freshly mated. I would also like to build 25 honey production colonies. I really appreciate your videos as this will be my first attempt at medium scale nuc production. I know that without videos such as this and others producing content on youtube The fact i have progressed as far as I have in 4 short years would just not have been possible. Please know that the information you put out is getting real results for new bee keepers everywhere. I appreciate all your time and dedication to helping others!
Thank you. 👍

We see it occasionally. I've heard of some beekeepers having trouble with it.
Hey Bob......quick question ......i mix sugar water in a 5 gallon bucket.....3 gallons of hot water and use same gallon container and add 2 gallons of sugar. Is that ratio too thin in your opinion? bees seem to do well with it....thanks
That is a good ratio for building comb and brood.
Bob, when you requeen a year old queen, do you sell those queens to a hobbyist? Seems there would be people who would want to buy those queens vs. just killing them.
We don't although we probably could.
Sir , how many days i will wait to introduce grafted larvae after removing queen?
One day works well.

Do you put a cell protector in the mother colony when you make the “quick splits” using up the 144 queen cells?
Yes, see this link for the type we use. www.mannlakeltd.com/jzs-bzs-top-bar-cell-protectors/
Just curious. Do you primarily sell to resellers or to individual beeks? If resellers up north how would we find out who and where?
I used to sell to resellers before we had a retail store but now it makes more sense to sell them all through our store.
Do you sell many Nucs later into the summer? Or is the demand all for Spring colonies?
The demand is mostly in the spring but we continue splitting to produce full size colonies that will replace those sold later.
Bob,
How soon after you make the nuc do you introduce the mated queen?
Ideally 6 hours but we can't always do that. At least an hour or two helps.
What about Acorn plastic frames?
The bees seem to do well with them.
Bob, if you ever need tech support on your H-959, give me a call.
Thank you. I will save your contact.
What are these white nucs from cardboard called ? I really like them but cannot find any.
They're actually corrugated plastic much like the political yard signs we see during election cycles. They are called "Jester EZ Nuc".
Is there a risk that the bees will move the sugar syrup up into the honey supers?
Not if feeding is stopped well before supers are put on.

Your yard near the box store doesn’t have issues with bees in the trash cans?
I've not heard any complaints so far.
Do you use minin mating nucs to produce queens or they are not profitable and practical?
Many producers that are on a short queen harvest schedule use them because they're cheap and easy. We are unable to use mini nucs because we let the queens lay for awhile before harvesting and that simply wouldn't work.
It is dark inside the hive. I don’t know if the bees an see black or yellow foundation
You're right about that. I believe the light coming through a screen bottom board could have an affect along the bottom of the lower frames.
