    Can you plant the cutting in the ground and skip the cups? I want to extend a huge Rhodo in my yard and was thinking about planting the clippings in the ground?

    I would also love to know how they turned out. I have many Rhodies in my yard, but my neighbors have colors I don't have. I'd love to try this if it works well.

    I personally have never had success this way - I have tried taking cuttings from new wood and old wood and both have failed 100% of the time for me :( - I don't know how people have success but I don't. The only way I have ever gotten rhododendron or azaleas to root is to take a lower branch, scrape the bark away on a section of wood. Then take and bend it to the ground while still attached to the mother plant and put dirt over that section of limb that has the damaged bark (scrape till you see inner green or white about 1 inch section half way around stem) with the leaves coming out the other side of the mound of dirt and place a rock on top and leave it for a whole growing season. that fall go back cut the branch off from the mother plant and usually it will have roots on it (usually about 80% rooting success with this method). I wish I could do it the way you are doing it because it would be A LOT less work intense.

      Yes I'm going to try this method this year. Never had much luck with rooting cuttings. We have a massive 15ft tall by 10ft wide tree and want to put more around the property. I'm trying this method, and the air-layering method as well. (Similar, with bag of soil wrapped around the stem, zip tied, and tin-foil to protect from the heat/sun.)

    When you’re talking in the part where you talk and you’re explaining the colors of your plants, what is that thing that’s behind you it looks like a pond. What is the set up that you have for that? What is pouring the water in there and what’s inside Koi fish?

    • @hummingbirdacres
      @hummingbirdacres  2 месяца назад

      It is a small pond. We have a cheap fountain from lowes inside the pond and the red thing behind is just decor. It is a hand well pump.
