I'm a Weber guy but i just purchased the SNS 18 on sale and I'msuper excited. I was torn between the Jumbo Joe and SNS 18. I was really turned off by the side air vents on the newer Jumbo's.
The reason why I picked the SNS over the Weber when looking for a 18 inch travel, kettle, is the same reason why I picked the master touch over the original premium. If you get the cheaper, the jumbo Joe or the original premium in my case, to upgrade it to match the more premium option would take more money than if I just bought the SNS or the master touch. I knew that they were things I was gonna use and abuse. I just figured might as well and save money in the long run while I can!
Thanks Tom, I just got a Jumbo Joe for Christmas. My first mod was to get the SNS basket so I have the best of both grills budget wise. I would like to see Weber add a ash sweep to the Jumbo Joe. Those ribs looked fantastic!
Have both, the SnS is the better grill. It addresses the Jumbo Joe's shortcoming very well. Yes the Jumbo Joe is initially cheaper but comes with plate steel grate that is not hinged for adding more charcoal, and no thermometer or charcoal basket. Just adding a 304 stainless steel grate brings the two prices much closer to each other. And the ash removal sweep in the SnS makes for easier clean-up and better airflow as well. It's an easy win in my book for the SnS.
@@ladbom I would agree it is flimsy but does provide function. Though the implementation should have been better. I still think the SnS is better compact portable charcoal grill than the Weber Joe. I had the Weber, and sold it. Having the stainless grate that easily rotates and the charcoal basket, makes for easy two zone grilling. How I use this grill 95% of the time. It's held up well for me.
In my opinion the SNS is basically a Jumbo Joe with all the bells and whistles. For the price point you probably can add the same mods with the Jumbo joe at almost the same or even less than the SNS. I did have that decision to make between the two of them and ended up getting the Jumbo Joe. I added some modifications except the charcoal sweep and am very happy with it. I just needed the same Weber design that is on their premium larger Kettle grills in a portable compact package and the jumbo joe delivers it.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm a Weber guy. I have a 22 inch kettle and the Jumbo Joe.But I gotta admit at 7 minintes in the SNS ribs have better color. Is that from the increased air flow I wonder? Great video btw!
I'm at a temporary rental for month and they only have shitty 50 grill from Lowe's. I briefly considered buying jumbo Joe or used nearby Weber and just leave it behind but I'll slum it for next 3 week. Nice see low and slow on little guys.
Thanks for Watching Alex! You need to go to the SNS website for that answer… the SNS is slightly bigger but I do know that they make Weber kettle accessorizes
I have two Weber Jumbo Joes. One older with the vents on the side, used many time for lower\slower and a new one that hasn’t been used yet. The SNS is tempting, but wow, that price! I do like the idea of the sweep. SNS CO. is like the Chinese co’s. They almost duplicate a tried and true original, and make a few tweaks. Should be criminal, but the patents for Weber have long expired. If the price comes down, I might snag a SNS. Probably not for $200, including tax, etc..
I used to have the older one. Bought it in 2005 and it was solid. I moved to Europe and left it with my mom, then she got rid of it which pissed me off. It was such a tank and probably would have lasted forever. When I go back to the U.S. I will get the updated version, but I would like your input. 1. The new one seems more shallow. Meaning, the charcoal grate and grilling grate seem to be closer to each other. If true, then it would be easy for food to burn/cook too fast. Or, use less charcoal but then for long cooks, you'd have to add coals more often. 2. It seems to be less of a tank, thinner. This is good in terms of portability because of less weight. For cooking, it wouldn't retain heat as well, so another reason to have to add more charcoal. Also, thinner means it can be more easily damaged due to some random accident. 3. The thing I didn't like about the old one was the side vents. I felt it had poor airflow. The newer one with the bottom vents seems like an improvement, but maybe I'm wrong, about all three points.
@trax4wax Thanks for Watching! The older ones were built more durable, you are correct, they still offer both style of vents, if you had the money, the SNS would be the one to get. If not the Weber still performs very well.
I’d like to see how the porcelain holds up on the SNS. I’ve heard people complain about their large grill rusting. Chinese quality I think if you left that thing outside the weather would destroy it.
Tom what product do you use to keep your grills so nice and clean? I saw you mention it in a video about a week or 2 ago. Thank you for another great comparison video. Thx Eric😀
Thanks for Watching Eric! I use a spray product called Gel Gloss been around for a long time. Available at Ace Hardware and today I saw it at Lowes,, look for the pink can
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ is it fed through one of the vents? I’m hesitant to do that with my 22” but seems perfect for the Joe since the top is so close to the grill
Those were some tasty looking ribs Tom. The smoke ring was definitely more pronounced on the SNS. Personally I’d pick the SNS. I have the SNS for my Weber kettle and it’s a game changer for low and slow. Nice comparison Tom and great ribs! Cheers!
I wouldn't mind trying the S&S .... but not for the price. I really like what I am seeing, but for my money for a traveler type kettle I wouldn't spend that much. I would rather modify a 18" kettle for traveling.
I love your videos for the most part, however, sometimes you talk way too fast, and you skip around way too much to the point of making me dizzy that I have to turn you off just to give my brain a rest.
My husband and I love your videos, and we envy your “land of grills!”
We appreciate your hard work!

Love my SNS travel kettle. Performs above it's weight class, in a compact travel friendly unit. Highly recommend.

I love that SnS. That said. Weber is the kettle king. That double said, Id rather have the SnS... Thanks Tom. Another Honest review.

I wish Weber could produce the portable charcoal grill table again.

Does the 18 inch sweep from weber fit the Jumbo Joe? Thanks Tom!

Great video where can you purchase the weber table I don’t think weber makes them anymore
Thanks for watching! You are correct! They are not made anymore
Will the SnS grill fit in the weber table slots? I got the Jumbo Joe and the table and like the combo. If the SnS will fit I can consider buying one
Thanks for watching! They do not
think I’d go with the 18” kettle with the full height legs that has the sweep in it and add the SnS basket.
Thanks for Watching Ted!
Wish I could fit that, we don’t have a trailer or camper so it all has to go into my SUV

Great vid Tom! As far as a dome thermometer goes, how accurate do you think the SnS is? It's definitely in a good spot.
Thanks for watching Jeffery! Yesterday was the first cook and I thought it was pretty close
Where do you get those tables? Love them
Thanks for Watching Paul! As I said in the video, they were made by Weber, haven’t been made for quite a few years
What’s the temperature gauge setup you have on the Weber?

Where did u get the weber tables from??

Thanks for watching Jay! Smoke ring went all the way through!
It sure did!
The airflow is different between the two then. Is the SNS very air tight at the lid level?
Thanks for Watching Peter! About the same as the Weber, you can put a gasket on both to tighten it up
I thought coals were supposed to be covered in ash before cooking?
Thanks for Watching! Not in this case, it was ready to go!

There are many methods for low and slow

SNS $199. Weber $89. I can add any extras I want to the weber and not hit the SNS price. I just can't see why I'd pay the premium.

SNS if you got the funds. I think Weber is going to catch up in time?
Thanks for Watching Jim! I hope Weber does!
SNS has great innovation but their quality doesn’t compare to Weber. My two year old SNS kettle is rusting pretty bad.
Thanks for watching Wesley! No rust on mine
Nice comparison. SNS is going to force weber to do some updating lol.

I totally agree. I would never use my jumbo Joe for low and slow.
