This seems very interesting so far, I wonder how Riley’s Adulthood will turn out, based on this and the First Movie?
Anyway, I’ll say this did give us a pretty good idea of what we could expect from this Movie,
So, they decided to go with the “New Emotions trying to take over for all of the Old Emotions” Route, sort of? I am pretty certain that some people have theorized about that being the case, at some point.
Anyway, I am also pretty certain that this Plot could be viewed as being pretty similar to the Plot of the First Movie, at least on a surface level, but I’d say the finer details beneath have enough differences to make it work,
    Like for example:
Rather than just having two Emotions having to go on an adventure through out Riley’s mind, we now have all Five of the Original Emotions having to go on a journey, two of which who have experience in going through the Place, while the other Three probably doesn’t, a fact that could potentially lead into some pretty interesting and funny experiences on it’s own.
Also, the reason why the Emotions even ended up in the situation that they were in in the First Movie was entirely due to a freak accident, while here it’s due too the New more inexperienced Emotions trying take over by pretty much overthrowing the Old Emotions, bottling them up somewhere.
On top of that, in the First Movie we just had the original core Emotions getting split up, with two out in the World and three remaining at the Center, now we have entirely New Emotions trying to run the Center by themselves, where we could see how well that goes and whether or not they realize that they’ve made a great mistake,
Although, I say the New Emotions and they, but wouldn’t it be funny if Ennui was the only one out of New Emotions who figured(/knew) that kicking out the Old more experienced Emotions might be a bad idea, but didn’t say anything due to how unmotivated they seem to be?
Heck, even the motivations and the reasoning behind said motivations I’d say is a bit different from the First Movie too,
In the First Film, the Emotions at Brain-Center pretty much just tried to run things by themselves because they didn’t know what else to do and the Emotions outside just wanted to go back because they just naturally knew they needed to,
While in this Film on the other hand, the Emotions at the Brain-Center tries to run things by themselves because they think they know how to handle a Teenage Riley better and the Emotions outside wants to go back pretty much for same reasons as in the First, but with an added bonus,
‘Cause I think the New Emotions might not know everything that happened before their arrival, so they wouldn’t know that something similar to what they’ve done has happened before,
But the Old Emotions knows, they have experienced just how bad things can go when Riley doesn’t have all of her Emotions present and working together, so they will not try to get back just because they feel like they have to, but also because they know what could happen if they don’t.
So, all in all, while the Plot is pretty simple, I’ve heard that even a pretty Simple Plot, that might even redo something similar to it’s predecessor, can still turn out quite good, as long as it’s been done well enough, I hope this Movie still does good despite it all.
Now, the only Question left is, how will everything be lined up in this Movie? When will every moment happen and in what order will it happen? What do you think?

Right I’m going to be honest, I know I might get some backlash but I have no remorse for what I’m about to say.
I’m not a fan of the new emotions, they are way too oddly specific that they kinda feel questionable, non-sensical or some cases wasted potential.
Now I’m not saying I’m against new emotions tho there is some continuity issues, but the four we have gotten are…not the best choices in my opinion.
Anxiety: Now I know a lot of people are going to say fear and anxiety are two separate emotions/feelings and you know what, you’re right.
But I will stay it’s way too similar. For me it’s like having anger and resentment or sadness and despair in the same movie.
Now in a different world or lore you could indeed add an emotion based character for each emotion but the first film made it very clear that other emotions are made by two emotions which this sequel seems to completely flip this entirely.
Also I’m also not a fan of anxiety because of what it could mean for fear. Fear all ready represents anxiety very well in the first film and so with anxiety being in, what would give fear do. Especially if we a panic attack scene the only thing it will reinforce is “why isn’t fear doing this?”.
The only good thing I could see about this character is we may get a puss in boost: the last wish esc scene of a panic attack. But thats it.
Envy: I have a very simpler issue to envy like I have with anxiety.
While anger and envy are different feelings, I still say it’s too close.
Also design wise I’m definitely not a fan. I definitely think she should look a lot more grouchy to represent the more toxic side of envy considering envy/jealousy are definitely contenders of most toxic feelings in the mental world. And yes am aware that all emotions aren’t evil however it isn’t good to hide the destructive portrayal that emotions have.
In fact anger did it pretty well, you could tell by looking at him he could seriously hurt someone other the most petty of reasons but still comes of as not evil.
Ennui: honestly this emotion represents how I feel about it really. While I think it doesn’t get the brunt of my ire like anxiety and embarrassment, I will still say that ennui is a bit mixed for me.
I honestly think that ennui would be the utter lack of emotion, it’s what happens when no one is at the controls.
I also kinda don’t like the colour too, when I first saw the poster I actually thought they were envy for their sharpe sinister look and grey would represent ennui better, but oh well.
Also how is ennui supposed to make memories. In the first film we are told that memories that the host don’t care for fade, so tell me how is Riley supposed to hold on to a memory that causes her to feel board. Because by the logic of the first film that memory should fade almost instantly because no one remembers a boring memory.
Embarrassment: This one has me the most interested…for all the wrong reasons.
And this where I have the issue of wasted potential.
To be fair only two emotions have this issue for me that being anxiety (my favourite punching bag) and embarrassment.
While I think anxiety kinda screws over fear and doesn’t make whole lot of sense when coming off of the first film, there is an emotion that could replace anxiety and yet fills a similar role.
It’s a core emotion in plutchik's emotion theory and just like anxiety also starts with an A. Anticipation.
Anticipation is an emotion that is always trying to predict upcoming events and can be either be a feeling of pleasure or prolonged distress. And If fear is quote on quote anxiety’s dad then anticipation would easily be the mother or other parent, whatever.
So how dose this circle back to embarrassment…well
Embarrassment sort of steps on the toes of another emotion though unlike anxiety isn’t in the inside-out universe but has serious untapped potential if did have it own emotion based character. That emotion is shame.
Shame just like embarrassment is a self-conscious emotions and in some emotional theory’s or to some people can also be described as a discrete or basic emotion tho some say theories say other wise.
The thing is embarrassment is just a lesser form or a sub-category of shame. And shame in general is 10x more of an interesting emotion to explore over embarrassment.
    While I was doing research
I found that some psychologists call shame the master emotion, because not only does it have multiple physical and psychological effects but also get this determines other emotions and how their reactions play out.
To quote” shame can be considered to be the master emotion because it controls the expression and even our recognition of other emotions”-Thomas J. Scheff.
And that to me would be such an awesome concept for an inside out character.
An emotion that ether was always in the mind or makes a new appearance in head quarters introduces him or herself (I would rather it be a guy) and then proceeds to in some way take charge of head quarters and may even usurp joys position for a bit, much to joys displeasure. Or you know change things considerably.
And thats even not mentioning that shame is a way more adaptable emotion or persistent emotion over embarrassment.
Embarrassment can only be felt when something is exposed or could be exposed. For example someone finds that you have crush on someone, your behind is exposed in public or your mum shows your baby photos to your friends. It requires something to be shown about us for us to feel embarrassment.
shame mean while can be felt any time or more often and even over the most simplest of things, you let down your team, you failed a test or you didn’t get A+ in it or maybe you thought other people did better in the test than you did, you stole your mums credit card and had second thoughts or you broke something that wasn’t yours. heck I felt a bit of shame when I had to go to MacDonalds to get pancakes because I felt like I could of done something more instead of buying junk food to scoff down my throat.
And shame in general is just an emotion that affects life in general, so much in fact that it can’t be ignored or not mentioned.
And to top it off shame is one of the single most painful emotions to experience period.
And honestly once again this would all combine to create an absolute outstanding inside out emotion.
They could play a similar role to sadness, but while sadness kinda just goes through the motions as joy drags her around.
Shame can be a lot more stubborn thanks to their moral standards and role to play while also being one of the emotions not afraid to protest some of joys or even other emotions decisions because they’re ether questionable or not morally appropriate.
Making them kinda look like a buzzkill or antagonist.
That along side the fact that shame is pretty self-destructive emotion and would cause Riley to feel worse than sadness. This is what joys finds detestable and the two almost have an office rival like relation-ship in the beginning, but then in the middle or the climax learn somethings. After all shame is although a pretty nasty emotion to experience and has negative consequences is still bloody important in mental well being and especially for social life and our moral compass meaning they could the only emotion that could possibly be described as a necessary evil.
And sadly you can’t do the same with embarrassment.
In terms of the character of embarrassment we got-I guess the hoodie is cool, it makes some sense due to the fact that you want to hide when embarrassed…still not going to redeem them after what could’ve came instead of them but alas.
So yeah I’m definitely not a fan of the new emotions. And my dislike for them has grown more as their shown to be the main issue in the sequel and kick out the basic five which is just dumb because we feel all types of emotion and comes off as pessimistic and not really thought out. I did like the concept of the bottle but also feel it’s a bit odd for inside out, because in reality it’s the person who actively bottles up their feeling and or emotions not other emotion and this intern makes daily feel more like a robot than an actual person. So yeah I’m personally still not looking forward to it and most of it has to do with the new emotions they’re picked
And once again I’m totally up for new emotions but these ones are too oddly specific that they sort don’t mesh well. Instead i think having more discrete or basic emotions could’ve worked better as well as mixing and matching multiple emotion theory’s to have a larger crew of emotions that could cover a large spectrum.
But now looking back at it’s probably rather difficult to add new emotions because their presence wasn’t known in the first film and so having new emotions just pop up will just look jarring. You would either have to make a separate timeline to make them work or just leave the story as is and both option are better than this.
But I do hope it works for Disney/ Disney-Pixar because it would be a shame (ha ha) if we did lose them, as much as they have fallen from grace over the years I also feel they still have potential they just need to find their footing.
