Cant thank you enough for this video. Finally my cue and timing problem is solved, been listening for 15 years now and started mixing a week ago, thanks!
In drum and bass you need to listen for the snare, but it's sort of the opposite in jungle, cause in jungle it's the snare that isn't hitting ever two beats, but the kick typically is. But DnB definatly has structure. You can always imagine a hi hat hitting on every beat. chi chi chi chi
Crutchy ball bits had me dying. Love the vids, have helped me so much since i started. Keep em coming man you know your shit and its so difficult to find anything like this geared to DnB. Big up!
Hip Hop is the hardest to 'mix', I find Drum and Bass easy because it has more consistent percussive elements. Breaks are difficult when you have a groove and loose drums, hard to make it sound clean. But it's all fun!
drum and bass is easy i have problem mixing r n b and rap I have to say that rnb and rap is one off the hardest to mix garage easy house extremely easy drum and bass my roots but I was hoping for a mix up big up yourself anyway ✌️
Would appreciate it if when the beat kicks in you let us listen for the beats for maybee a couple of bars after referring to what the beat sounds like , not to good at counting and have to really listen to hear D&B beats
QuaverFlava well .. .. ya got to “Andy Himeles” or DJ Optic’s page and check a few videos., one is exactly 25:00 long! My favorite one I made! Hope you take the time to drop a comment on the experience of watching ;~)
Connor Hunn it’s prolly the most expensive, takes longer to find tunes, then find tunes for sale. But, hands down! The best way to learn to DJ is old fashion phonographs made by Technics., All of their table’s are great! All other manufacturers have a misunderstanding in the pitch fader category.(i dont know why. JUST IS) GOOD LUCK! Prolly save loads of TIME, mostly energy. Mix with a MIDI controller. MP3’s are much easier to find. Also cheaper on the finances ;~)
Hey man. So I want to learn how to Dj Drum and Bass, got directed here via Reddit. I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing or where to start. Could you guide me to which one of your videos I should start with please?
Same position here my man, problem I have with these RUclips videos is that my attention span is waaay too short to take in all the words they’re saying
He probably made it sound more complex than it really is. All you have to do is count your 4 bars equivalent to 32 Beats total. 8 beats per bar. Count 1 through 8, 4 times to reach 32 Beats (4 bars) and then your pattern changes or it breaks into another 4 bars. Everyone counts differently, this is how I count. I was taught this at the very beginning. Everything else he does is just looping and programming digitally. Hope this helps.
I'm an old school dj always mixed house, well hard house and hard trance. I've always had a love for dnb. But never mixed it. Just recently bought someone's record collection. (More fool them for selling) you're setting loops and that's not helping me on my turntables. I understand the fundamentals of mixing I've been mixing house for over a month 10 years but I'm fucked with dnb.
I always thought dnb was one of the easiest genres to mix. I'd say anything with live instruments or non 4/4 patterns is tricky such as funk, old soul or latin music.
I've never heard a dnb track that's not 4/4 or electronic. The beats are 4/4 by default and whilst they might use samples of old tracks the beats are always quantized meaning it's electronic. Difficult music to mix would be with a live band plus also multi genre, so mixing a rock track into a motown track for example. Give it a try!
Shambles1980TRealOne Biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever read hahaha drum and bass is 4/4 the 2nd kick being “off time” doesn’t change the time signature mate
Using a loop to mix in is over-engineering. I don't know any DJs who would use this technique in reality, and I don't see any advantages in using it. Entertaining video though!
Drum and bass mixing lesson.... The absolute easiest music to mix other than house period. To even exclaim that it's difficult at all is ridiculous. And on cdj's and NOT vinyl??? Please come on man.
more Drum n Bass lessons please :D
8:13 apologises for mashin up that track like it's 2 in the mornin at an underground basement party! Never apologise you beast!

It’s a Pleasure
I love your teachin style. Thanks for getting back to me about live recording by the way. Very humbling.
Mix it on the hi hat was the best advice I ever got set me off on my journey dropping some sick mixes soon as I got my ear round them
Honestly I didn’t know it was this deep I just kind of listened and unconsciously understood each bar

Not true, most jungle/drum and bass, for that is what it is, has a snare on the second beat.

I just requested this last night on your discussion section... OMG DUDE YOU ARE THE KING!! thank you so much!
brilliant lesson and you're a right laugh. Thank you for this!
In serato when you analyze drum and bass set the bpm range higher to get the correct bpm

I've learned to DJ without sync and always did the live-que-no-loop mixing(house music though). will try the same in DnB now.

I’ve had my Technics turntables since around 1995!
did I miss the bit on pitch control? not sure you can have a lesson in mixing properly that doesn't involve pitch control

If I want to buy a starting dj kit what's the best one ?
Zidene Tucker all depends on your budgets. Try to go with pioneer
Numark party kit
I mean mix
Zidene Tucker straight easiest. MIDI controller., many are under 1000USD, and music is very much cheaper to fuel your addiction.
This is fuckin sick lad
harrrddddddd

I can appreciate what you're trying to do here, but in my opinion this is something that cannot be taught. You either have it, or you don't.
Not necessarily. I'm sure its not for everyone, but it doesnt require any natural gifts
