Thank God you are still with us. Katy appears to be very shaken. Give her lots of hugs and let her know you are still with her. Thank you for sharing.
YES!! Katie is your best friend and advocate!!! Take care of each other!!
Thank God you are still with us.
Greg, the look on Katy's face says it all. I just retired from a long life of construction work. Work smarter and safer. Good luck with your concrete pour.
"Freeze that t-shirt" in glass and mount it on a wall. Preferably into the place where you keep your power tools. Great reminder, since memory does fade in time. So glad you guys were so lucky. Hate when bad things happen to good people. All the best in the future.
Love the idea of hanging the t-shirt up. I'm glad it was what it was and no worse! Truly a home built with blood sweat and tears for sure now. Stay strong guys, you're both doing some amazing work there for sure!
Great idea!! Put the shirt in the new barn / shop / goat house! :)
Angle grinder is the tool that scares me the most. I avoid using it as much as I can. Never use one without a guard. Always have the side handle connected and always use it with one hand on the grinder body, the other hand on the side handle. Both these things were missing from your grinder, and you were working in a confined space, cutting metal. Stay safe. Hope you recover soon.
Tip 1: invest in more than just a first aid kit. Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared". My first aid closet is 4' x 4' x 8' and has just about everything you can get. It probably has things that your little hospital doesn't even have. It also has a "Go Bag" in it for quick help outside my home to assist neighbors. I was trained in Jr. High & High School in first aid, advanced first aid, lifeguard, hunter safety and snowmobile safety. For 20 years as a superintendent, I held weekly safety meetings to all my employees.
Accidents will always happen, no matter how safety conscious you are, that's why they are called accidents. I am so glad you are OK.
Tip 2: to bend rod like you did, drill the hole in the stump at a 15 degree angle, then hammer in a 6" to 8" pipe. Now when you bend re-bar the pipe will keep the stump from absorbing some of the pressure, the pipe will make a sharper corner & the angle will allow you to even go past 90 degrees.
Tip 3: move to a country without socialist healthcare.
@@KeithChegwin24 it wouldn't be the US because they have zero health care. Its funny the ones that make fun of our health health care.
It definitely makes sense to have some basic first aid training and a box like you have said with various ''field dressings'' as the army would call them, drugs to keep away the shock etc etc
Hope you recover soon pal ❤❤❤
This right here !! That super first aid kit is a great idea ...
@@KeithChegwin24 BEST TIP👏🏻👍🏻
Greg, im so glad you are still with us! I know you said you aren’t a big religious guy, but God was watching over you! He knew Katie needs you! I pray for you and that your healing process goes well! Love you guys!
Be careful, be very careful, we want to continue seeing the two of you finish that house, be very careful.
My Father did something even more stupid. When He got out of the Army after WWII we didn't have much money. He was a mechanic and was building his own shop with hand tools and he decided to make it easier, so he put a circular saw blade on a body and fender samder. The saw blade hit a knot and jumped up and cut his fore arm almost from his wrist to his elbow on the inside of his arm. The saw also cut a deep gash across his sholder next to his jugular vein. He recovered but he had deep scars for the rest of his life and was much the wiser!
My God Greg…your lucky to be alive! Farm accident’s usually end lives! My father a farmer warned us as young children of these accidents. God was on your side. Please be safer… your important 🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
AGREED!!! You are both so much more important than any project. It takes us humans awhile to figure this out; sometimes!
I'm glad you're alive Greg. Once you get hurt like that, it changes your safe working habits. We learn the hard way.
That's not luck. That's a Miracle have a blessed day.I'm praying for you
Amen!
My .02 cents...and glad you are ok!!
If you make a mistake and LEARN from it, it was NEVER a mistake to begin with - it was a LESSON!!
Glad to see you’re ok. You did well Katie, keeping your cool, that must have been so hard. 26:52 You’re a strong woman and Greg is a lucky man to be alive and have you around. Please stay safe.
That voice in our heads… “listen to your gut” Is so true 100% of the time. No judgement here Greg. A little wake up call to self for not listening to that voice. So happy you’re ok and fully functional. Big hugs to both of you. That’s enormous stress and trauma you both went through. Sending healing light and love 💕 for a speedy recovery.
its OK to Judge bad behavior, especially when it happens a lot.
That guard was not on that grinder for ages. There is a simple "this one or two times" that is acceptable but over and over and over again is just plain stupidity
I'm looking at this with tears. I'm so glad you're fine. Man, this was hard to watch but I did. God Bless and HE did bless you. ❤❤❤
Ya.... still got tears in my eyes. Sigh.......😪👍Sometimes things reel us back in.
PRAISE! PRAISE! PRAISE!!! So very very grateful that you are both safe and sound!!! Whew! We have had our share of accidents here in Ohio too! March 2011, my husband slid off our new metal roof (that he was not supposed to be on anyway)... So believe me, I understand! This is more than a good lesson. We usually learn from our mistakes!! Bless you both!!! I forgot "the best part" (sarcasm right here). When I came up from the basement and ran to my husband lying on the ground with his right leg dangling in an awkward position..... The first thing he said to me was "please don't be mad at me"!!! ...... 4 days after traction and surgery; 18 months of rehab and more surgery 9 months later... He is doing okay! He was 73 at the time and now he is 87!!! So he has more than 9 lives!!!😇😇😇
Happy to see you’re ok. You’re the second RUclipsr that has made a video about an angle grinder accident
The Outsider is the other that I've seen.
Hometownacres is another.
Don't think of it as a mistake. Think of it as an AWESOME story to tell!! Glad You are Ok.
I am very happy you are okay and nothing important was damaged. When I was doing more physical work on my house I noticed that when I was overtired I would start dropping things, like hammers. That led me to making a rule: if I dropped something (because I was tired) I had to immediately stop work for the day. That rule really worked. I would not do one more thing either. Hurrying is a sign too. Please take care of yourself, you have all the power.
Thanking G-d for guarding you from something catastrophic. So happy to hear you're not in pain and your fingers working normally. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Love you guys.
I had an accident with a skill saw. I was holding the blade shield open and trimming a board. I'm not sure what the blade hit but the saw jumped back and "Luckily" I was wearing a cloth nail belt which stopped the blade from turning. I got 27 stitches in my groin. The lesson I learned was don't stand directly behind the saw and the blade guard is there for a reason. Greg, I'm glad you are OK...
Glad you weren't more severely injured. It's stories like yours that made me put the guards back on all of my grinders. A well stocked first aid kit is a must have living where you do. First aid classes are good too. Glad you are going to be OK. Love watching your work on projects.
Greg, I have made several comments about taking shortcuts and being careless. You can't take risks and survive. You say you are aware and don't need to be told, so you are hardheaded. Thank God you are okay.
I have not met any one that is not hard headed!!! Men or women !!!
@@sherry4tNOT😂😂😂...too true!
tourniquet, quick clot, gauze (trauma kit) are good to have around. and know how to use them. when you are that remote you are basically your own first responder. ability to provide self defense and emergency medical care are two things that could save you life.
Greg, every accident is a wake up call. I'm just so glad you're still with us. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Take care you 2
Greg…I’m CELEBRATING that you’re alive and well so that your wonderful vids will continue!!! ❤️
My God. I am so glad that you are ok. You need to learn from this so that it never happens again...
Got to love it when God steps in and helps us.
Amen! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
As a 65 year old male with a few (not many) "close calls" in a life time of using both power hand tools and some heavy equipment - I know how grateful you both are feeling. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with who, what, and where healthcare resources are around. (even a vet could help in an emergency) Thanks for sharing and be safe!
Well the only thing to say is always think both on what could happen, but your alive and now you know what could,be happened lesson learned. Be safe
OMG Grieg. Please, please take care. I'm on blood thinners n I just thought thank god you are not on them, thank god your still here, keep listening to that little one on your shoulder!! ❤❤❤❤
Thank God you are alive! May God heal you quickly and return all function to all damaged nerves and muscles!
Glad you are ok. Just remember, your next action that can severely hurt, Don’t Do It !! Think of another way ! You two are good people and the hospital it toooo far away. Be Safe. We like you !
My dad sliced his abdomen wide open with a 7" grinder back in the late 60's. His guts were protruding but as a tough old bird, he grabbed his abdomen, sat in the kitchen chair, poured some whiskey over the open wound and then sewed himself back together. He never sought medical attention and it never got infected. Having survived many wounds during WWII I guess that's just what you did! Glad you're safe now!
Tough old bird is right, wow!
That voice!!! How many times i have ignored it? What a miracle that you survived what could have been and you are still so cheerful. Hope you heal fast
Agree! I ignored "The Voice" to put on my seatbelt! Seconds later I was slammed headlong into the windshield by a car hitting my driver side front end!!! Terrible!
Hi Greg and Katy, please take care. Sad this happen to you. But you are both strong people.Greg take a good rest and we will see you soon.god bless you all.
Thank God you were not injured any worse. Sorry for your very severe accident, may you heal fast and with no problems. Love your channel and both of you. My daughter and son-in-law are here for a week, playing check up on some projects. At my age it's slow going. Had our home stained and it looks great. At 6,400 ft we get the snow. The accumulation of snow last year was 601". Take it easy and heal well for the USA.
Angle grinders are great. Just don’t get ones that have a switch that locks on. A flap switch is much better and it shuts off as soon as you let go. You were very lucky. Those cut off wheels, or zip wheels are the cause of bad facial injuries when they explode. Face shields can save you too. So glad it wasn’t worse and you are healing. 😊
Thank God you okay please be careful doll baby you're my second family I'd be lost without either one of y'all
So close. Happy to hear you are healing. I had a similar incident years ago. I use a leather welding jacket and gloves now to protect while use of grinder.
Heal up quick and continue to improve on your safety skills.
Have a great day! Happy Labor Day weekend.
My grandson, who just turned 17 on the 29th, has decided to be a welder.
Ok, you two, you live off grid, you need a real good medical emergency box. I'm glad that you are doing fine and that you came through in one piece.
The medical system in all of Canada needs to be fixed. 🙄
👋🇨🇦
That's great, I hope he loves it! make sure to tell him to always keep the guard on those grinders!
-an old welder
Greg, we ALL have those moments where we think it'll be fine. Most times it is fine, but this time it wasnt. It opens our eyes to safer measures. Im so glad it was a somewhar positive outcome. Im sure it will change your working process going forward. as it does for anyone in this situation. SO GLAD WE GET TO HAVE THIS LITTLE CHAT.
GOD BLESS ❤😊
May I suggest a construction technique whenever you use your backhoe? If you could hook a small cart or trailer to your four wheeler and put your spoil from each dig in it rather than near your work where it will inevitably be in the way at least three times, it might save you some work. Yes, you may have to bring some soil back as filler, but some of it will remain on your cart so it will be easy to transport. Oh, if you have to bring a lot of it, a quick scoop with your front end loader can easily fill the cart. Just a thought.
Never remove guards from any tool, they are there for a reason. get well soon and keep the good content comming and wear boots a tip from your Aussi mate
So glad you are all right.. I have lived off grid... One thing my wife made me do is make me go with her and we took first aid and cpr classes.. She rhen made sure we had a emergency medical bag with all kinds of stuff including 4 tourniquet's, 10 rolls of gauze, tape, assortment of 9x9 8x8, 6x6, 4x4, bandages, assortment of regular band-aids, and liquid bandage, scissors, and ace wraps... I thought she had gone overboard with all that until I had a power saw kick back on me cutting a 4x4 post and cut my finger off.. That day really sucked.. It wasn't cheap, but I thanked the Good Lord for my wife's nagging and bought it... Stay safe my friend, I also didn't listen to that inner voice and I also knew better.. You and I now belong to a private club... Love you guys...
Stuff like that wakes us up to how fragile we are and heightens our awareness of how quickly things can change our lives. I celebrate with you that you are alive with some scars as a reminder. I have experienced close-to-death experiences, as you have, especially riding, which you do as well. I'm not sure we ever live in a bubble, but the choices we make do have consequences. I really enjoy your channel. You both are good people!
Glad it wasn’t more serious. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Glad your ok and that voice in your head is almost always right and is the number one saftey tool God gave us. Glad it wasn't an arterial bleed. Had an arterial bleed and almost died myself and I was in the hospital when it happened! Good move on ordering a toruniquette. Just some advice I would order multiple and place them strategically around property and carry one with you. Never know when you may need 2!
Glad you are safe and your are still going 1000 percent.
Greg, so glad you're okay and standing there telling us what happened. Heal up quickly and completely!
Glad to see you didn’t get hurt worse. You’re the second RUclipsr I watch that has done this. He got it caught in his beard and almost got his neck. The guard was the culprit for him also.
My Wife and I have lived in the woods for 50 years. Accidents happen. Yes us Men are always doing stupid stuff to ourselves. Glad you are OK and Katie did not faint. La Pine, Oregon
😮 Oh, I'm so glad you survived this accident. You're so lucky you still have your arm attached. Prayers you both heal from this tragic accident. Hugs to you both.
WOW that had to be the scariest moment of your lives, what a wake up call right? So glad your ok and the damage was not as severe as it could have been. So glad you were able to get help and your wife was there to get you the help you needed.
That happened to me the other day, by the grace of God, the pieces flew away from me. Scared me bad. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
So happy to see you in front of the camera. We all learn at sometime in our life to make changes to ensure we are more safer, it was so obvious you had already made changes. I know Katie will ensure you don’t undo any stitches. I also felt for Katie as it must have been terrifying at the time. Love to you both xxx ❤️💙
So glad you’re ok! We all let things slide no matter how educated and mindful we are. Accidents happen no shame in that. ❤❤❤❤
Greg, no judgment here, it was an accident that's why they are called accidents. Just so glad that you are ok and on the mend. Even a person that uses all of the safest methods is still susceptible to an accident. Judgment is an arrogant person's way of making themselves feel superior to others. As long as we learn from our mistakes is all that one can hope for. Get well Greg, so glad that you are still with us.
Thank You Lord for sparing hard working Greg and Katie! May they take caution and a prayer and thank you for your mercy, Amen!!!!!!!!!! Hire some help you guys you deserve that. I am sure you will be prayed for now! Hedge of protection over all who are here!
I’m so happy to hear you are still with us, like you said it could have been much worse. Love you guys too much to loose either one of you. Keep filming! 💕
Super glad that you are alright. Whenever I get hurt fixing things around my hou,se, and survived, I tell myself, lesson learned. Be safe , the two of you.
I loved Gregg's little grin while lounging and sipping on what looked like a brusky. Katie's little giggle was so sweet. Enjoying life...
They make a leather weilding jacket with sleeves. Two purpose, weilding and grinding. Glad your OK now mend.
Greg I’m so relieved that you are ok, best lessons are learnt from mistakes. Thank goodness you had Katie to look after you and you weren’t alone. ❤from Victoria, Australia to both of you ❤
Thank God you are ok, bud!!!! I can tell Katie is shook still and I can also tell that she really loves you. Spend some extra time hugging her, loving her and reassuring her that you are ok and still with her. Both of you are special people and although we may never meet face to face, I consider friends and family. All of us viewers out here adore you and am so glad you are ok!!! Love and well wishes from Texas
Get well soon glad you are not permanently disabled all the best and thanks for your time and efforts
Thank our Bood God that he protected you from any other injuries. Makes think how precious each moment of is.
Glad to see everyone is ok
Wow. This is the second channel this week that had a grinder accident. The t-shirt got bound up with both accidents. Glad both RUclipsrs are safe. The other channel is Hometown Acres. I am glad both of you posted this information. I will respect the angle grinder more. Again, glad you will heal over time and lesson learned for all of us to slow down some time to reduce the risks if possible. Looks like cutting with a grinder is risky than I ever thought.
So thankful you’re ok! I’m sure a lesson learned. I’m not going to “rag” on you - just a short story. My daddy was a farmer, had livestock, welder, etc for over 70 years. When he recounting the time he worked, and my 3 brothers, he was so thankful that there was never a serious accident. People don’t understand or realize what a hard life that is. You are constantly doing physical work it’s your hands and body. NOW: please don’t rush getting back to your norm ❤️
Yes, working with big machinery, big animals, PTO's etc is... risky! I'm thankful that my carpentry training made it second-nature to always assess the safety of whatever risky stuff I'm about to do. Repetition brings a false sense of security, I need that knee-jerk 'have I got the guard on' etc training to counteract it.
You're tough, you'll survive.
I had an accident at work 30 something years ago, almost cut my fingers off. The doctors did an amazing job reattaching everything. Don't have full use, but I still got them.
Glad to see you are ok. Take it slow and heal up. I want to shout out to Katy for her composure. You can see it in her eyes how much the incident affected her. Accidents happen. I won’t mention the things I have done..Beating a dead horse won’t fix a thing! Looking forward to many more videos,
So so happy you ended up being OK Greg; everyone makes mistakes and off grid living is not living in a bubble; best wishes for fast healing. My love to both of you.
It doesn't matter how safety aware you are accidents happen that's just life, considering the huge amount of work you have done all by your selves on your property you've done well, its not about being lucky sh*t happens its more about how you deal with it and move on, Hope you heal up fast, you guys are awesome and do amazing work
The event you experienced, from both of your perspectives will be be the foundation of a better tomorrow. Katie did an awesome job managing the emergency and getting you the care you needed. The best thing you can do with your arms now is hug her! I spent the bulk of my career in a sector that we described as a self correcting culture. So I'm proud of you for immediately publicly recognizing your mistake. If you can admit it, you can learn from it. Thanks for sharing your accident, and I am glad you can stand tall and speak about it.
So glad you're OK.
You had Angeles looking after you that's for sure.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Glad you are still with us. Hang in there and hope you feel better soon. Katy, you are a Trooper, good luck on your recovery!
Du hast großes Glück gehabt mein Freund. Gute Besserung!!!! Katy pass auf deinen Mann auf, er ist etwas leichtsinnig! Liebe Grüße aus dem Erzgebirge in Sachsen/Deutschland,
Make the addition bigger!!! It's nice that Katy is always ready to try new things. Man! glad you are fine. Good thing Katy was home with you. Take care.
Congratulations Greg on surviving a horrible accident. Thank you both for sharing and for reminding all us DIYers to be careful..
Poor Katie, i know the feeling you were feeling to many times. Hugs. Greg, i thank GOD your ok. You sure had someone looking over you. GOD bless you both.
So happy you didn’t get hurt worse, God is good!
Glad you were able to get through the accident!! It is our biggest concern up on the mountaintop with Deanna and me as well - cannot ever be careful enough when we are working together or by ourselves! Here's a prayer to quick healing!!
Prayers for Gregg. Don't beat yourself up. Lesson learned
Yikes man! That’s the real deal. Glad you’re here to share the story. Sorry for your suffering but it’s good to have reminders like this for the rest of us. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you are still with us. Blessings to both you and Katie (emotionally and mentally) survived such an incident.
I like your attitudes! ❤ Years ago my husband & I remodeled our house… we all make mistakes.😮 So thankful for guardian angels! 👍🙏
You guys..... PLEASE.... PLEASE...PLEASE...be mindful NOW. This could have been so much worse...even lethal. I'm so glad you're still with us. LET YOURSELF HEAL.
its his own fault, he did not use protective grinder guard for safety / blade cover
@@billykulim5202Hopefully he'll be more mindful now.
I’m so glad you’re ok and it wasn’t worse or fatal. Don’t beat yourself up, everyone takes short cuts especially when you’re short on time. Just most people aren’t filming themselves everyday. My husband nearly cut his big toe off with a saw cutting a brick in half, holding it between his feet without his work boots on. Now this is something he has done for the last 35+ years but that morning he forgot to put his work boots on and someone was bothering him as he was cutting. He spent almost 6 days in hospital on IV antibiotics. I guarantee he’ll do it again. Hope you heal up fast.
When we are young we feel unbeatable, trust me I know!! I'm glad you're ok. Luckily Katie was there ❤
Greg I am so relived that you were not more seriously hurt, how could Katie manage without you. Take care and may this be a godd lesson for you .😇❤
I am grateful the Lord allowed you to survive to see your family grow up. I have had that happen only minutes after someone told me how unsafe it was, so I get it. I celebrate with you!
So happy that you are ok. I saw the title on the video and told my hubby "hope everybody doesn't start telling them I told you so..." Can't wait to see the extension. Thank goodness you are ok.
Saw that grinder and thought that wasn’t good. You were able to describe the event without photos. Very thankful of the outcome. Had wondered how you could get out of those holes without caving them in . Thank goodness you had sound mind to unplug that grinder. Big hugs to both of you handling that emergency. Glad you are alive. ❤
Holy crap! We (my wife Sue and I) are so relieved that you are (essentially) alright Greg. Jeezus man! That was a scary situation. Hope you’re healing swiftly and well.
FYI. Keep in mind when using grinding wheels, the RPMS on the grinding wheel cannot be less the the RPMS of the Grinder. If it is the wheel will definitely explode. I am not say this was the case in your accident but just something to keep in mind. The same rule applies to any combination of wheels and grinders. Not all wheels have the same RPMS and not all Grinders have the same RPMS. Glad you are still around and look forward to your next videos.
Greg we hope you get better soon. Don't beat yourself up over this I am 69 and just had a similar thing. That voice in my head said don't buy I did not listen. Went through glass window with both legs bad bruising but luckily no stitches. Take the time you need to heal all will be good.
Thank God Greg you are alright praise the good Lord. God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
interesting, I buy 6" cutoff discs by the thousands. I use angle grinders every day for the past 12 years and I've never in my life had a disc explode or even got a single cut. Most of these cases are when people put the grinder down a little hard (doesn't take much) on the cutoff disc and it fractures about a 1/4 of the disc. Its kind of hard to tell, but you can feel something off when you feel the blade. Over the years, I've become one with the angle grinder. I can cut things square with my eye's closed and I can even tell what type of metal and thickness I'm cutting just by feel alone. I might as well tape the grinder to my hand haha. have a great day! and awesome videos!
Greg, lesson learnt. Nuff said. Glad you’re still all working.
A friend some years ago using a handheld electric circular saw , cut a piece of timber and put the saw down before it had stopped. The guard jammed, the saw bounced and severed his femoral artery . He didn’t go home that night. It only takes a moment.
Foot note. In our house for many decades it has always been,(not a good job unless you bleed a bit). And I have bled from time to time. Possible not as bad as yourself. But one shattered ankle, 2 fractured arms a number of ribs etc.
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for sharing your story as a person who is just starting my home build. mostly by myself gives me a heads up and things that I need to look for. I have some Safety already implemented, but it’s just a good reminder for me That I need to have a good plan in place. again thank you for sharing your story
