Old Civ V habits (in this case, this was a wide play one) die hard; (same for the deleting the in Civ VI but not Civ V maintenance free warrior). Quill's a good enough warmonger that even on Deity he's not sufficiently punished for Civ VI economic mistakes to be forced to change.
India has been trying to get around Quill to settle that damn spot from at least when they first explored that area. It's why they kept handing Quill settlers.
It swings all ways too. I've had the AI repeatedly try to sell me 1 of their great works for things like multiple luxuries and 3 digit GPT. And then sometimes they give pretty equal deals.
The chopping of forests adjacent to rivers triggers me a little, since lumber mills get bonus production next to rivers, making them better than mines (and obviously much better production that a farm if on flat land). Still, maybe the short term chop boost is worth it... Quill has a lot of experience :P
When did this become a thing? How did I not know this and why is this value so hidden in the game? OMG I could have been playing soo much better. At first I thought maybe you were confusing a civ. 5 thing or something, but no apparently this is a thing in civ. 6. I feel so cheated I've played and watched over 100 hours each and never knew this how is that even possible. It explains so much. Also makes rivers way more useful xD
It also depends on tech level - certain techs through the tree boost mines' production, and others boost lumber mills' production. Without a river, mines generally out-produce lumber mills (presuming a fairly uniform research through the eras, and taking into account the base +1 production from the forest itself). The only time I think lumber mills are categorically better (apart from on rivers) is when you're trying to get many resorts and natural parks for tourism (since mines reduce appeal). It does seem strange to me, however, that farms don't get any bonus when next to a river. Historically, this seems as much - if not more - important than lumber mills on rivers.
I sort of had it in my mind when I read about mills in the Civilopedia, but mines still seemed better. I wasn't taking into account the base +1 production from the wood itself though haha Since then I don't chop woods next to rivers (unless they're in the way of a good farming region, district, or a something like a well placed Pairidaeza). Jungles, on the other hand, can't be chopped fast enough :P
tldr after you get all the techs that improve the production of mills and mines a lumber mill (on a hill) next to a river will have +1 production compared to a mine in that same spot however if that hill + forest is not next to a river than a mill and mine will end up with the same production so unless you need to worry about appeal than you do the chop for the quick boost and plant a mine
Quill, you saw the iron deposit north of Nuri and west of Nepata, but I don't know if you noticed the iron deposit hill adjacent to Nuri on the east side. Good for that eureka if you're still looking for it.
The name of all those cities are Sudanese and Meroe is a big city in the north of sudan that has a big dam project called Meroe Dam :) proud to see this :)
You could build a commercial hub next to the planned industrial zone in Napata that would get you a +5 indu zone and a +3 commercial zone, because district triangle! And please research iron working finally you dont even have crossbows!
Until CQUI has been updated I've been using More Lenses from the workshop since it highlights the builder suggested hexes. It was recently updated for the Summer Patch.
ProfArden Yes Building Oil Riggs and (non-gold) mining is like you shat all over Your Fields ; Crops and wildlife climate ecosystem!! COMON JUSTA SAY NO QUILL !! 🕊🤑🌪🤒😿
Zimbabwe in Meroe would be awsome and but i dont know if it has to be adjacedent to cattle and Commercialhub with market at the same time, if so .. you would have to build a commercial hub ,in the not yet build city of meroe in the north , between the cattle and the wheat in meroe to build the zimbabwe try it. And ther is a +4 indu zone in shaat please take a closer look at the surrounding stone quarries and hills!
It felt like there was something very odd about the way this game is playing out compared with Quill's usual Civ6 playthroughs until I realised it's not on epic speed this time! Duh... (also all the jokes about Shaat and Heh were pretty old before I even checked the comments, guys)
I had the same thing with citystates in a recent run. The End-Interface shows all but just one (Lissabon) got placed on the map. Same with some Civs, i locked in 10 (with me) Civs and just got 6. Seems like a bug to, and its very annoying :(
I am learning this game and have 2 questions. 1. What is the difference between "alert" and "fortify' 2. Why does he delete/retire military units? It is not better to keep them for safety or upgrades? I just thought it would be best to have as many military units as you can. Also, I laughed really hard at his reaction when he settled the city "Shaat"
Curtis Sleme 1.Fortify puts the unit in a defensive position so that it gains a small bonus if attacked, a unit put in fortify can be ignored as its turns will be skipped. A unit in Alert however, will be woken up and will prompt for an order if an enemy is within it's movement. It's important to note that this includes melee troops getting woken up by a ship passing by even if they can't do anything about it. 2. Usually you would just disband a unit if it's upkeep is bothering you, as most units cost 1 to 8 gold to upkeep per turn. Usually you don't do this unless you're broke, as most of the time their really is no harm in having an extra military unit
Why would EVER delete a warrior in civ. 6? You get nothing for it and they have no maintenance cost. It could have been sent on auto explore for no cost. Furthermore, you had plenty of space so it couldn't realistically been in your way which is the only imaginable reason to delete it in this game. Quill please never do this again!
Yep my dad is always yelling at me to make more warriors since they have no maintenance cost, but my play style is to focus districts and units that are stronger than my opponents specific units. Still having a bunch around for professional army, maybe when hitting musket men (especially since you only need one strategic resource for upgrades) can be a huge tempo swing mid-game. Either way no point in actually deleting a warrior even if you just use it as a slow scout.
I'm not speaking english as a mother tong but I've no problems to understand your episodes or any conversation, at 2:25 you said : "Do we have any oil on our territory? Yes by shat!". What does shat means in this context, luck?
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT , reread halicarnasses , the great admiral is only half the buff , other half is additional great engineer usage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT, reread this wonders buff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT
P.S. El Kurru is where a;ll your internal routes should end or begin as you spent your great merchant there and get +2 gold for each city in the trade route because of him!!! DERP
Gandhi has been so nice to Quill throughout this game. Giving free settlers, one day Quill should pay Gandhi back by surprising Gandhi with a nuke
who nukes who, now, bitch!
Nahh thank Mr. Meier for letting such a shitty AI in his game.
Some godlike ai there
You mean pay him back with pascifism...
you mean passafistm
Villiger: This place is Shaat.
Merchant: Heh.
Thats to the north. :P
Underrated comment
I love the Aqueduct placement in the northernmost city because it looks like it is a wall blocking off the northern pass
So your capital that's already over its housing limit gets no granary, but the city with room to grow does first. Never change, quill :P

I guess when you don't make contact with anyone besides the one civ you'd been stomping all over until the medieval era you get a lot more leniency.
Don't forget your defence. If Japan decides to hit you hard it's going to be a little late to start thinking about spamming out units.
India has been trying to get around Quill to settle that damn spot from at least when they first explored that area. It's why they kept handing Quill settlers.
I sat through an entire Sharknado 5 ad on this video because you're awesome, Quill18. Stay awesome! :u
Gandhi keeps declaring war by sending settlers
yeah there is definitely something wrong with trading in summer patch i just returned a spy to the Congo for 8 great works and 86 gpt
That there was a very expensive Spy, made out of gold or something?
It swings all ways too.

Yeah that sounds right :)
It makes improvement/district placement so interesting which I love about Civ VI.
Quill, you saw the iron deposit north of Nuri and west of Nepata, but I don't know if you noticed the iron deposit hill adjacent to Nuri on the east side. Good for that eureka if you're still looking for it.
One thing I wish Quill did was just send one naval unit on auto explore, there is always so much of the map unexplored.
The name of all those cities are Sudanese and Meroe is a big city in the north of sudan that has a big dam project called Meroe Dam :)

"Yes! by Shaat!" - Quill18
Warriors and scouts don't cost any gold for maintenance, I think. Also, Halicarnassus gives double charges for great engineers...
Quills biggest enemy right now.... Barbarian Frigates.
Yeah, there's a bug in the trades. You can usually get all an AI's gold/turn for a luxury.
Shat
oil shat
ProfArden Yes Building Oil Riggs and (non-gold) mining

It seems like a really crappy place to live.
Quill, build our pyramids in miam and replace the farm at the end with a commercial district
19:34 LOL it's the 4th time
That settler Shaat a city!
what a shaat location to settle
Zimbabwe in Meroe would be awsome and but i dont know if it has to be adjacedent to cattle and Commercialhub with market at the same time, if so .. you would have to build a commercial hub ,in the not yet build city of meroe in the north , between the cattle and the wheat in meroe to build the zimbabwe try it. Didn't you want the unique tile improvement in Miam before you started building districts?
That's gonna be fine
Ohhh look, he shaat out another city ¯_(ツ)_/¯
9:13
Quill - pew pew
Me - hooray
take a shot every time quill moans about mods
In the beginning of every video I hear "Noobia"
Why build more settlers when you can just steal them from Ghandi?
Quill, you can build a +3 Industrialzone in Shaat, dont build the +2 please! Move the pin a littlebit left, i know its hard for you to see the hills!
It felt like there was something very odd about the way this game is playing out compared with Quill's usual Civ6 playthroughs until I realised it's not on epic speed this time! Duh... (also all the jokes about Shaat and Heh were pretty old before I even checked the comments, guys)
In my first civ 6 game on settler I got declared on multiple times and each time Gandhi had a declared a war on me each time.
I had the same thing with citystates in a recent run. The End-Interface shows all but just one (Lissabon) got placed on the map. Same with some Civs, i locked in 10 (with me) Civs and just got 6. Seems like a bug to, and its very annoying :(

The AI in this game had problems from day 1, glad to know it still does after they started selling DLC packs for it :-/
What a shaatty name

Brian Cotuinho Wait, they have NO maint cost? So THATS why everyone spams Warriors in Civ VI and seem to handle it just fine.

That's a Shaat city spot
Build Nubian pyramid next to miam before harbor
Civ 6 need more vikings.... "DENMARK! WHERE ARE YOU?"
I'm not speaking english as a mother tong but I've no problems to understand your episodes or any conversation, at 2:25 you said : "Do we have any oil on our territory? Yes by shat!". What does shat means in this context, luck?
He has a city called Shaat.
Now I understand XD
*tongue
VexonCross SHAATTOWN Should GO Into OPEN- REBELLION for
THE EARTH's SAKE!
Flinrodi The city with the oil is named Shaat. But I agree that his punctuation on that part was weird.
With all that rainforest in the south, it'd be a shame to not extend that way for a Chichen Itza city.

what civ 6 mods do you use?
why did you build Nuri so close to Napata may I ask?
I think you need more builders still, and likely more science...
Heh, what a shaatty name for a city
Nubia Shaat tons
should have upgraded both warriors to swordsmen
Didn't they fix the non-escorted settler thing? They have had over a year to fix the AI =.='; What are you even doing >.>
Cynthia... cyn...thi...a... Jesus died for our cyn...thi...a's -22 jump street
Ghandi is bugged it seems
You think you play in Deity but then... India happened!
Heh, Shaat

Quill can you do an Austrian kaiserreich
Why does it have to be one ep a day :(
Game without cqui just sucks.....even more.
Should block off the south with India with settlers
And then train them to build their own road and shot anybody who uses them!
