    Cut a length of a pool noodle just enough to protect hatch hit point. Cut a split through one side of noodle, then squeeze noodle around the overhead pole.

    The only issue I have had was with the tailgate. You can run a strap from the tailgate pull-loop down to one of the inside cargo anchors, and hold the tailgate a quarter inch under the awning support. The issue is a little better if you move the awning to the driver's side, because then the rear awning hinge is an extra inch and a half further from the vehicle. But it still rubs, and a towel is needed to protect the tailgate. Also, the tailgate ends up being just low enough that you can walk right into it and smash the top of your head into the metal (as I found out the hard way one evening). I'm thinking about a half inch spacer, longer awning carriage bolts, combined with a driver's side install.

      Already bashed my head on the tailgate as well. I don't want to move the awning to the driver side as my sleeping setup involves getting in/out on the passenger side, but thanks for the ideas. I might have a solution that I need to test. If it works, I'll post an update video.

      LOL, there's always something else to buy...don't think I'm ever going to be completely done.

      Thanks Darren. Even though I camp alone most of the time, I'm not totally anti-social. If you ever see me, make sure you say hi.

    Thanks for the video. Great to see it on a 4Runner, it looks a lot bigger than the stock photos of it on a Ford Truck

    Like the video. Nice set up. I wonder if it would work with the stock 4runner rack. I'm not too interested in upgrading my rack yet.

      You might be able to attach the mounts that come with it to the crossbars using U-bolts, but I am not sure.

    Great video. Any updates on how it’s holding up? Also, do you know the dimensions of the square or rectangle main section? I’m asking bc I am looking to adapt a ARB living room to a 180 awning. I think the rooms are 8x8. Thanks!

      Hello Chad, the awning is holding up perfectly. I do not know the dimensions, but can measure next time I'm out camping (probably this weekend)

    I like ARB but that's just a brand and warranty thing

    Awesome. How did it hold up through the rain with the guyline pulling the front down? Did the rain pool up anywhere too much? I’m wondering if you could leave it up through a night of rain without having 80 pounds of water polled up.

      It held up well, there were small pools of water, but nothing worrisome.

    I subbed awhile back due to videos like this. If you were to buy an awning today, would you still go with the OVS 180?

      Yes, I would still go with the OVS, it's great!

    Would a pool noodle or pipe insulation help with the tailgate issue?

      I put tape on the awning arm and that seems to be working well.

    How did you install the 180 on your gobi rack i cant figure it out?

    • @TheGrumpyGobbler
      @TheGrumpyGobbler  7 месяцев назад

      Gobi sells awning mounts for their racks, I got those (I believe I had to drill another hole to make it work with the OVS). They are not cheap, but they work really well.

    Hi, I have the gobi rack as well. Just wondering witch bracket are you using for this awning? Thanks.

    • @TheGrumpyGobbler
      @TheGrumpyGobbler  11 месяцев назад +2

      I bought the awning brackets from Gobi. I believe I had to drill some holes so that they would work with the OVS, but they work perfectly. A bit expensive though and they always have a lead time once you order.

    Can the walls go out & held with poles extending the awning?

      Sorry it took me so long to reply Jimmy. I think you could rig it up on the stock rack by using U-bolts.
