Thanks! Downtown Detroit is about 18 miles from the airport. It was a fairly clear day as well.

what time of day and what runways do you say would be best for spotting here?
Any time of day. I like the afternoons and early evenings. The parking structures have an open view of the eastern runways (21R/3L, 21L/3R).

Yes, there is a cost to use the parking structures. I usually stay for about 2-1/2 to 4 hours. It costs me $12-$20.
