    Love it Oscar! You build awesome products. Pleasure watching a maker do his thing.
    FYI, I brought a Mercedes 1124 AF into the states and I’m in the process of building it out. I knew all along that I was going to build my own windows, doors, etc. so finding your channel has been inspiring!
    Thanks much

    I love that you used piano hinges on the hatch to spread the load across the entire top edge of the hatch. In my overlander plan all my cabinetry doors will have piano hinges as will the main door and any hatch for the same reason, spreading the load and less chance that any of the screws pull out.

    🙂 Glad to see you feeling better! 🙂 Great job on the hatch, looks so sturdy and professional. I think the lock cylinder location might begin to annoy you after a while, but only time will tell. Totally agree about the latch handle position, so I don't think you had any other choice.

      Yes I have to see if this will annoy me, for now I have no clue how often you have to open and close the storage area on a camping trip. As you said time will tell. Thank you !

    Where did you source that aluminum with 2 90° angles? Very solid build! I’d bet it is break in proof!

      It is a brake shape from a flashing shop, they bend it they way I order. 2mm thick 080 gauge. Cheers

    I'm amazed, how you made this hatch. Even made a proper insulation between the inner and outer material. Could you insulate the outer frame, where the hatch fits in, also? I mean no "cold-bridge". I presume your piano hitch is stainless steel? Great job done......keep on going.

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  9 месяцев назад

      Yes the hinges are stainless and the frame part is well insulated, it was visible in the video where I installed the inner plywood. All window / hatch and door frames are well insulated inside.

    Very impressive result and excellent work. In my build (truck not here yet because Houthi rebels caused ship to turn back!) I plan to use the cut out of the camper box wall (it is double sided alu bonded to insulation each side) and trim with glas fibre reinforced angle … issue is insulating recess for lock set though.

      @@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF it just left Gibraltar area after turning back half way down Red Sea. Spent two days taking on more containers I think in Spain and refueling for the long trip around Africa. So I think delayed about 3 weeks so now not until mid March.

      @@Elderlanders I know that feeling trust me when you need to wait. Tracking the ship every day and when they are in open sea there is no position update for a few days. It was a while ago but I still know what you are going through right now. So your truck fits in a container or do you have him on a open container ?

    • @Elderlanders
      @Elderlanders 9 месяцев назад

      @@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF so camper box slides off the back of truck sub frame. This way the two can fit in a 40’ HC container. There is only 25 mm side clearance for the truck at the entry door of the container. I like the idea of container shipping. A bit less pricey than roro or flat rack. But some work to connect / disconnect things for sure. I could send photo if you like. I’m in Vancouver so someday I could show it in real life.

    Happy New Year to you and your family 🎉
    I was wondering how you were going to build your hatches. I thought you might use a composite board to reduce weight. 🤔
    Definitely would not have been ad strong as this set up.💪👍📺

    How are you welding the aluminum ? is there a tutorial for this?

      I use a spool gun for aluminum welding, but you will find countless tutorials on RUclips "how to weld aluminum" it depends on the equipment you have available and skills. Cheers
