  • How to stop a parrot from plucking and mutilating its body is not an easy thing to stop once it has begun. Many Cockatoos and Parrots usually die from infection of the wound or have to be euthanized to end the suffering. Many Parrot Owners and Parrot Rescuers see their parrots and cockatoos tear at their flesh for many reasons. Don Scott of The Chloe Sanctuary for Parrot and Cockatoos specializes in parrot mutilation and how to control it. Don Scott and I wanted to make this video to show you how Don cares for a mutilating parrot, and we hope it can help other bird owners and their parrots.
Jazmine deserves to have this healthy life filled with “cockatoo friends” and supportive care for her mental and physical well-being. Any funding I can raise to help The Chloe Sanctuary for Parrots and Cockatoos to continue Jazmine’s happiness, I am grateful. It's been over a year since I have seen Don and his Rescued Cockatoos, and it felt so good to see them. I've missed them all so much!
Cockatoos are one of the most abuse and misunderstood parrots on the planet. Parrots are Wild and Do Not Belong in Captivity. A captive parrot could never survive in the wild, for Parrots already here in our homes and the millions in Parrot Rescue. It is our responsibility to provide the best care possible.

Jasmine is very lucky to have found u! It seems a bit much, using Haldol, even twice a day. But it's necessary. I had a veterinarian recommend it to me. My moluccan cockatoo started plucking after he had his wing removed, due to cancer. You're a true blessing for Jasmine😊

Hi my Cockatoo has been a little aggressive lately! Only towards me. It almost feels like she is jealous of me. But sometimes she's a good baby. She kind of Lunges and Pounces on me and has also bit me once. Now I just noticed a small portion of her bare chest. I just am trying to wonder if it's molting or has she plucked. Any help? Or advice?

I think he said Hadol. After researching though, I would never use it for birds. It’s used for schizophrenia and can cause the bird to hallucinate when they come off of it. I’m going to try to find a Bach Flower Remedy instead.

      Haloperidol diluted for these birds.

If it is used by someone who knows how to properly use it on a bird like this directed by an avian vet it can save a cockatoos life.

I know he's a Godsend for these birds. It's a shame she has to be on the Haldol. It shows that she is medicated but I know it's saving her life. The mutilating was a humans fault I'm sure.

Its not an avairy... it's a large cage. There is no room in there for it to fly.

This is so bad. You basically drugging up your bird! Look at the state of it, it's doped up so much it's nearly asleep! You need to keep it in a large aviary with other birds, where it can really fly, bath in the rain and get natural sunlight. Feed it a healthy diet and provide mental stimulating foraging toys etc and it will soon stop feather plucking.
