- A light hearted run through of how I conduct my rebreather set up and check-list for a JJ-ccr dive. Hopefully some wisdom buried in amongst it too.
This video is definately not a replacment for real in-person training - and should be considered as a review for trained divers (in particular, GUE CCR divers).
If you're not able to distinguish the humour from the sensible information do not use anything you've seen here in a real dive!
Just an awesome improvement of the standard checklist provided by JJ. Really appreciated the video. Thx!
Thank you :)
It's interesting to see the differences and similarities between different agency's checklists. The GUE checklist and the one I use are actually broadly similar, with allowances for differences in the unit. I dive a hybrid rEvo, and the major things, like gas/scrubber analysis, checking o-rings, stereo/loop check, ambient pressure/high pressure leak tests, and electronics checks are all pretty similar. I don't check IP on every assembly, but I can see that being useful for detecting IP creep early.
One thing I do to save time is that I deal with O2/button checks and calibration while I'm waiting for the dil pressure gauge check. The downside is that if there's a dil leak into the loop, the O2 calibration is off, but if there's a dil leak, you're in for a lot of troubleshooting anyway.
Thanks for comment :). The order of the checks can be important - if you’ve got a dil or o2 leak it’s useful to know if it’s internal or external … which is why they are done in conjunction with neg/pos test.
@@gbdivering Oh interesting! That seems like a good idea. Going back through the video, you mentioned that, I just didn't notice. :P
I haven't Tri-mix dived since 2000, but kept an eye on the evolution of CCRs . I was was solely Heli-air from 1993-2000. which served me well to 120 meters. 60-80 tri-mix dives annually.
The JJ units seem to now to be a proven unit. I didn't see any advantage on CCRs TBH, 1996. 97. 98 seen a lot of rebreather deaths in my circles. 3/4 per year!
wrecks i did were in strong tidal zones, rebreathers had been reported back to require stops to make good on descents.
I never had an issue with a shortage of gas either, 12-14L/min free swimming then 8-10L/min in deco. Weather and access ( available boats was a bigger problem! ).
But now seeing a more simple systems over some of the first efforts look good. Set Parts 1 & 2 looks good. ( I always had a rule of pre-dive full build and test 24 hrs before a dive Pre GUE days).
Yes its interesting how much things have changed since I did an inspo course in late 90s till now :)
Those valves look good ...
I see in your videos that your JJ is gold, even the rebreather head is gold ! and JJ's body is engraved! How did you get these items?
JJ supplied a few bare canisters and we got them engraved and coated…
Awesome!
Thanks!
Hi Graham, i really appreciate your JJ videos. Hopefully you can make a video about how do you calculate buoyancy and weight needed with your bail and dill. Are you always diving overweight when you have the d7 onboard ?
Hi Tor - you never use stage/deco in weighting calcs (as you can take them off if needed). Weighting is easier by adding Helium :) I am not over weight in sea with decent under garment ... in fresh water can be heavy
Great content Graham! Which Jens has made your 3d-printed stand? It looks awesome.
Hi Graham, Thank you for all the information - Do you have any reviews regarding the Nautec Valve?
Nautec valve is ok… it does the same job as the Lola equivalent … it’s manufacutered better but ultimately functions the same as the cheaper Lola
@@gbdivering Thank Graham for your answer. !
Jesus oring 😂
Could you share the checklist template so others can benefit from improved safety ?
I only have paper copies
@@gbdivering LOL, thanks anyway. Great content, looking forward to more tips and your thoughts on diving.
