- Teams of engineers worked Saturday on the intricate process of cutting and lifting the first section of twisted steel from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, which crumpled into the Patapsco River this week after a massive cargo ship crashed into one of its supports.
Sparks could be seen flying from a section of bent and crumpled steel in the afternoon, and the Coast Guard confirmed that work had begun to remove a section of the toppled structure.

Why did the Dali ever leave dock while it was having severe electrical problems? In fact the ship was enroute to SriLanka. Halfway around the world expecting the voyage to take 27 days when in fact it lost all electrical power and control ramming a major support that collapsed the bridge in seconds(less than a minute ute). Find those answers for me please since you seem.to know more than the rest of us.

And these trusses are massive, I'm surprised to see a man with his torch in the pictures, but I guess there aren't readily available robots for this kind of work, or only in a few demolition yards, maybe they can adapt those to a barge or build something quickly?

The bridge is longer than a mile.. and the container ship makes it look much smaller... if you see a tugboat in comparison to the container ship, it will give you scale. Moving a piece of metal the size of the tugboat alone is a huge feat, then to complicate matters its not on dry land. This is a massive project, just to clear a lane big enough for ships to pass thru... removing the bridge will most likely take a couple of years. This is a BIG BIG job.

The captain (not capitalized) was only a passenger. Every ship in ship channels is under the control of a Port Authority pilot both entering and leaving. An American that lives and works in the city.

Number one priority should be recovering the missing workers.
They may be stuck under a truss, though, and would never be recovered if the work don't start.
The workers are sadly dead, 100% dead. And nothing can be done to save them. They may be trapped under tons of debris. Why is recovering a lifeless body more important then reopening jobs to over 8000 port workers and 10'000 ++ other workers waiting on shipments to this port? In reality recovering dead bodies is not as important of 10's of thousands of workers providing for their family.

Of course they would, they've gotten really good at cleaning up collapsed bridges cause they have to do it 10 times a year. Their bridges have a tendency to collapse just from traffic driving on it. A few times before they even finished building the bridge lol

Here's the question that needs to be answered. How long was it known the boat was without power? As a port city Baltimore had to have tugboats docked nearby. Why weren't they used to divert it from hitting the bridge? Had that been done this wouldn't even be a news story. Who dropped the ball? Isn't this a Democratic run city?
It first lost power at 1:26am. Tugboats had released around 10 minutes before that. They typically don't take ships past the bridge. When the ship lost power the pilot radioed for the tugs to come back but it was too late at that point.
Clearly the ones who dropped the ball are the owners and operators of the ship that lost power and hit the bridge. You're being silly trying to blame this on the big meanie democrats. If they dropped the ball, then so did the Trump's republican administration for not passing federal regulations to require tugboats to take ships past critical infrastructure.

If rescuers were really concerned saving lives they’d grow a pair of nutts and risk the elements and get to searching. What is next? A bolt by bolt removal video. Sensationalizing a bridge collapse is not productive. The longer the news agencies keep 24 hour coverage and the sensationilizing of the death of 4 workers is tragic enough. There is no fault to be assigned, other than to the owners and operators of the barge..for a poor lack in judgement and not using the towboats to direct the barge. Which should be a mandatory use and expense included to substantiate maintenance and repair prior to an accident.
Nothing about this has been "politicized." The only people politicizing the issue are people like you who are just using it to complain about a black Democrat being governor of Maryland.
There is objectively fault to be assigned. That is not "political" to say. Some one, like the board of directors of the company that owns the ship, is at fault for destroying a bridge and killing multiple people.
