Scorpius 100%, I think they look perfect. Mine is a 1981 244 GLE with turbine wheels and gap looks pretty similar
I personally prefer to keep the car as raised as possible. Mostly due to many sharp speed bumps on the road. Have seen multiple times where someone has bought an old 240 and are very surprised when the lowering kit they put on made the car higher. They didn't realize the springs sag after 20+ years.
angle grinder to the springs will fix the arch gap 💪💪
I don't know. When we had 240 wagons in the 90s and 00s, the main mission was to keep them 100% original ( '83 long nose grey metallic, '92 Polar and '92 Classic both white). I don't remember which wheels the Long nose had, but Polar had Multi X and Classic the Scorpius. Man, they looked good on those wheels. And I still believe there is a special place in hell for everyone that puts wrong wheels on a 240. Save your soul, keep the Scorpius on Lily! 👹🤣
Love the American style headlamps myself. Much nicer than UK spec
The 14’ cross spokes…though the 15’ look good to. I’ve just always been partial to the cross spoke 14’s on 240’s
I have 195 65 15s on my 2002 S60 it is quite rare combination because everyone has 16s or 17 or bigger but car seats nicely and ride quality is better
The first set I think look best. Can't you lower the 240.
Scorpius. You can tell if the car is lowered by looking the front lower control arm angel. If it is almost horisontally level it is std height car. If it's upwards to the wheel it is lowered. Except the original turbo 240.
Thanks, great tip!
Absolutely Scorpios on Lilly. In my book, the 89-93 standard multi-spoke plastic wheel cover is without a doubt the best look on a late 240. Alu wheels are some fancy bourgeois 740 stuff! Looking forward to seeing the 245 coming along!
Err.re.comment that" this is my car" i believe Mrs Involvo'd might have an opinion on that. Keep up the good work. Onwards and upwards.👍
If you did the white walls, the US-spec quads are a must!
scorpius (?(the first ones)) looks better imo. suits the car better, but like you say said they should be a size bigger or the car a bit lower
FYI Those second rims you put on are the lightest rims Volvo ever produced from that era. Can’t remember there names. Believe they came on the 780 Bertone cars
Maybe some lowering springs from Lesjöfors? Or standard ones from a GLT, which sits a bit closer to the ground. On 15" rims a 240 has a higher ground clearance than many SUVS.
I know this won't help, but, they both look good. I have the scorpius on my white 240 GLE and they are very nice. The other wheels also look good on the 240. Winner, winner.
Thanks 🙂
The black steelies are cool too. It’s a noooo to the white walls though😮
Fist ones look very 80's but the second set look better to me.
Thanks 👍
@@Involvod Forgot to say, if you are scrapping the shell save a few sections to practice welding on. Maybe even keep some sections that are good as repair sections.
I’m speaking in 700 words here, but probably the same applies to 200 models. Originally Volvo offered several thicknesses in the 700 front spring, the same principle as with the rear springs (for example there were 13.7, 14.5, 14.8mm front springs).
The front spring thickness/strength got determent by Chassis Type of the car. This type numbering took in account the weight of a specific engine and the extra’s that where put on that model like turbo’s, compressors, radiator size etc. As years went on most of these strength variations where ignored and nowadays a lot of aftermarket manufacturers only make a one-size-fits-all front spring. (for example Lesjöfors just makes one version for all 700 and 900 series alike (14.5mm thick)).
Especially on older normal aspirated base models these thicker springs cause the front of the car to be too high. My advise, add some cinder blocks from your garden fence under the hood and away you go…😉
And a bit of advice I got from my dad when I was younger: when in doubt..., you actually already know
Thanks for the info! 👍
if the front struts were lower it would look better
I actually like newer alloys lol. 15s look just right on her and the Scorpius look perfect on the wagon. Great video fella
I find it interesting that some of us North Americans swap on the E-Code front lights on our Volvos and some Europeans swap on NA spec front lights on their Volvos.
I am biased towards the Scorpios as my first Volvo, a 244, had them.
Time to chop some springs
Hi, at around 3:40 in your video you said it "they both look good". I believe the Swedes allowed for lots of suspension travel with taller, skinny Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires in the winter.
This is exactly what i run, studded tall and skinny Hakka. /Swede
15's are fine, 18" wheels and low profile tires look kinda meh on a 240 to me, I will be lowering mine 40mm front and rear and getting some 16" wheels with 205/60-16 tires at some point in the future, along with a 25mm rear hubcentric spacer
Scorpius look better, in my opinion. But, in the end, it's what you like that matters.
I like the Scorpius better personally but why not switch it for a time and see how you feel?
Great comparisson! I've been having 195/15/80 AT tyres on my 240 for a year now. They're a bit loud on highway, but great on gravel roads and in winter . I like the slighly lifted look on 240, but sometimes think to switch to normal 15's for summer cruising :). I think I will get me a set of summer 15's :)
Well for what its worth Sledge I prefer the Scorpius! Cheers!
Hey man,
In my experience - after putting the car back on the ground - it may sit quite a lot higher than normal. (because of bushings) I suggest going for a short drive (speedbumps help also). It makes a lot of difference when trying on new wheels.
Very true! Thanks
Are you even allowed to switch wheels in Germany? 🤔🤪
No probably not without permission!
I think you should get yourself a half inch drive battery gun saves a lot of time and when you let the car of f of the jack do a lock to lock on the steering to settle it all back down you may lose half an inch or so on the height best wishes to your better half and bubba
Very true! Cheers man
I have had 205/65/15 tyres on my 240 in the past, it looks very strong and handles great without compromising ruggedness.
White wall tyres - no,no,no. Quad headlights, yuk! And the 240 needs lowering at the front.
Earlier this year I done an overhaul to front and rear suspension including new stock spring all around. With this stock setup the gap at the front is excessive (similar to your situation on Lili) to the point that the car looks lowered in the rear. It made me paranoid as I thought that there is something wrong with the rear of the car. Maybe the front springs will settle down a bit but the current stance of the car is somewhat compromised to say the least. Maybe lowering the front isn't a bad thing after all.
If you ask me, I liked the cross spoke smaller wheels better. For memthe 15 just looks too modern for the 240. This is just my taste. I would get some different springs for it, so the front gets a bit lowered and put those back. Obviously I am not a volvo person, and my cars are more modern, but classics now, but its my opinion. I like puting the moast modern, but period correct wheels on cars. Thats why I loved the 15s on the 740. In the end, its all a matter of taste, but the front section needs tomgo lower, no question. ( Ive got a bmw e39 touring, audi a6 c5 avant like the one you had in England, and I got a 2004 saab 9-3 nearly free, so plenty of projects too. I do like staying moastly stock). But dont get me wrong, I would love a 740 wagon.
Looks like someone changed out your springs on your 240. After watching your video, I went out and measured the tire/fender gap on my all original 240 on with Scorpius wheels and 185/70R14 tires. I measured a distance of 5.1 cm at the front fender. No way I could stick my hand in there like you did.
Looking good and a pallet of goodies as well plus breaking a wagon lucky man 👌👍
Has the Brit Expat ever noticed the back of the sedan squats a bit?
I think I prefer the scorpius wheels bit that might be because I'm so used to seeing them! I reckon see how you feel after having the others on a while
Thanks man 👍
Same prefer Scorpius wheels
I had in 2015/16 Pholus rims which should be pretty similar to the Scorpius also with 195 65 R15 Tores in my 245 Elsa. Totally unprobematic 👌🏼
But I had on another 245 Project Car three years ago Virgos I wanted to Put on my 745 - No Chance due to collision with brakes. Had no distance platters...
I lowered my 740 60mm in the front and 40 in the rear, now it looks stock 😂 Weirdly, it really is worse on some cars and better on others
Love your perfectionism! My question is how is all this affecting the ride and manouverability in addition to the appearance? Second, how do you live with that f***** church bell! Great series of videos. Thanks!
As someone who lived near a church for 23 years. You get used to it..
To me the Scorpius wheels look awesome. Try fettling the suspension to get the correct ride height?
Turbine wheels for the original look and GLE rims for a different look. I would choose GLE rims. With caps. But i dont get it, if its to high, just lower it. If you want it stock, leave it.
740 cuad lamps yes pelase....white walls....nop my cup of tea
It doesn’t have diesel springs at the font does it? They were tougher to cope with the VW 6cyl motor but I’m not sure if that would affect the ride height!
If u want the quad lites still I can speak to a mate of mine in England who has 2 American imported ones
That would be awesome!! Thanks. I'm on Instagram if you're on there
Bruh I’ll take those Scorpios for my 89 … here in cali those are impossible…
has someone in the past fitted springs for a diesel 240.
Could be!
Stock ride height bud
The Quad Headlights are cool but TÜV says no =/
Ah that's a shame, is there an issue with them even when they don't know it's been converted?
@@Involvod well the Real issue is, that they do not have a CE sign on them. You can fit them and hope that the guy does not know that the car came with different lights. I think the way the light is spread is slightly different to european lenses, but they have a default error range so it might go through. But there are a lot of might in that thing, hence I never got them shipped from canada or US.
@@sermovies3217 that makes sense. I might try it and keep the old lights just in case. I think they bolt straight up but the wiring has to be changed somewhat :/ Thanks for the heads up btw 👍
@@InvolvodYou can buy E-certified 4x6 headlights, they can be had cheap, and good ones exist too, like Hella and Bosch ones.
@@Vaino_Hotti Thanks! 👍
does all volvos apart from mine have crappy handbrakes🤣
My 240 has excellent handbrakes and can easily hold the car at any incline.
Hello from norway! This is my dream car. Blue on blue w the pullmann seats. Want to sell it?
Hello, my friend, how much percentage is allocated for Valvo oil 940 10/40 or more?
Please, please, what is the grade of oil for Valvo 940?
Check your manual. 10w30/40 is the usual grade in most climates
Anyone have best insurance company for 240’s ?
I don't think any vehicle looks good with whitewall tyres.
