It’s basically criminal that Kale’s quest was cut from the game. There’s so much emotion and despair in it, probably one of the best written quests From Software had made, in my opinion.
Hopefully and this is a big amount of hope. They will add his quest line to the upcoming dlc. If not then we'll just find another way to tell his story.
Imo it fucked with the ambiguity of the merchants a bit too much, but the dialogue did make it cool. We still don't actually know in game if the merchants were originally worshippers or not, or if they were driven to chaos
also was the only real explanation for why everyone wants to kill you. they're all infected with some sort of madness- vengeance, obsession with Miquella, religious fervor for the golden order, despair, rot, what have you. a curse of madness would have explained alot of the game's worse moments, and would have made the ambition to rise beyond it that much more profound
It's nuts to think they cut this side quest out of all of the ones in the game. This one is by far one of the most emotional and sad of the bunch. It definitely should have even been one of the main ones considering the Frenzied Flame is insanely important to the lore.
Burn it all away in the yellow chaos flame.... May chaos take the world... You can almost hear him fighting the urge to spit in anger between the two lines
@@symbiotesoda1148 I would argue that all of Kale's cut voice lines are better than Igon's but then again, I've never really been a fan of Igon's lines anyways.
Damn, to think one of your comments got forgotten about. It feels like this was around your height in popularity. Weird to see happen, but nice to see you here lol.
The song gives me the impression of a silent boiling anger. Not one born of hate, but compassion for those who are unable to rectify wrongdoings with their own hands. Simultaneously beautiful and frightening.
This. This encompasses the frenzied flame ending. It's a crushing lament. Frenzied flame's madness is quite literally the knowledge of all who suffered. It's grief turned up to the max Yet it's interesting that shabriri, the face of frenzied flame clearly doesn't fit the bill of those who worship it. Perhaps its in line with the 3 fingers, who felt so scorned yet seem to indulge in the suffering. Willing to make *everyone* suffer just for the sake of vengeance.
"Did you see? What they did to my ancestors? The whole clan, buried alive. Sick... maddened... husks of themselves. ...Have you *heard* their moans? They're hardly *human* anymore!"
The soundtrack really made it that much more impactful hitting your soul. Divest yourself of everything. Please, a Frenzied flame to melt away the curse’s suffering and despair. And the order entire. May chaos take the world. May chaos take the world.
Lord of chaos is probably one of worst and most selfish endings as of now (the nomads seem to be victims in the current version) Making them supporters of the frenzied flame instead of victims wouldn't really change much, unless the flame of frenzy got a completely different meaning
@@ungratefulingrate1268 what’s selfish about it? If anything, it’s as selfless as possible, looking beyond your own sense of accomplishment, your own opportunity to rule, to give the world the ending it deserves, rather than selfishly gobbling up your own slice of mindless perpetuation-flavored pie
@@marinusjohn6642 The rotten perpetuation we see in game is just a consequence of marika's inability to be a proper god. Normally the ages go on just fine, as we can observe many times. Frenzied folks want everything to end, because they feel like it shouldn't go on. Thing is, anyone is free to take their own life, instead of dragging everyone down. Also the GW split from the one great once, it could happen again
@@ungratefulingrate1268 I feel as though, even if it is but a reset, it plays into the cyclical nature of worlds created by Miyazaki, a larger theme across his works. Maybe it isn’t ethically the best solution, nor a final one, but narratively it is very satisfying, reflecting the end of all misery, the possibility to start all over, while also tying into the theme of cycles that Miyazaki seems to love almost as much as swamps and decay and… womens feet…
Part of what makes the merchant mass grave hit so hard is how depressingly grounded it is. A religious minority, with no state or army of their own to defend them, quietly disposed of with clinical brutality. All evidence of their existence buried to hide the crimes of the perpetrators, and the survivors scattered to the winds, clinging to whatever scraps of their old culture they can remember. There aren’t mutated, horn-covered ogres being oppressed in real life, but there are many stories like this one. It makes the howling pit of nihilistic depression at the core of the Frenzied Flame feel tantalizing, for a moment at least. Do we deserve to go on, when human beings do this to one another over and over throughout history? Is there really enough joy in life to counterbalance such horror, or is that just what the lucky and comfortable people tell themselves?
At last all things, great and small, will come to an end. So the Question remains. Are they truly mad? Or have they only accepted this Fate, this path with no return long before we did?
One thing I really loved about this song is that it's stated that the lullaby the nomadics play was once a song of St.Trina (Miquella) in hopes to give them ease in their slumbers. The frenzied flame route that ends all their suffering really is the most impactful.
I guess that was his mission, the Haligtree was meant to provide refuge to those treated horribly by the golden order. It's just so heartbreaking looking at this.
"All that there is came from the One Great. Then came fractures, and births, and souls. But the Greater Will made a mistake. Torment, despair, affliction... every sin, every curse. Every one, born of the mistake. And so, what was borrowed must be returned. Melt it all away, with the yellow chaos flame. Until all is One again." - The word of The Three Fingers
Far away my people call Distant as the sky From the light of grace we did fall Never again to fly Tree of wisdom, tree of light Golden Order shine Left us reaching, living in plight The truth shall now be mine Tomb beneath the royal home Sealed away their screams Seeking answers, far did I roam Chase the light in my dreams Endless mem’ries left to rot Sent off long ago Search for truth, seems all was for naught Chasing that distant glow People spurned from hate and lies Shunned beyond reprieve Frenzied flame their only ally For their deaths none did grieve Now embrace the yellow fire These three fingers, furled Burn their mark, the tree’s our pyre May chaos take the world
You know...I kinda see it. Even the three fingers wishes to be burned away by the frenzied flame and after it does leaves it's desperate hope for cleansing to you. It's almost like it's a final breath that's also a sigh of relief.
It sees in us its last, best hope at its end game victory. I find it funny that it just leans into the chaos dice roll where we could just as easily fail as succeed, but it's the three fingers last shot so fuck it. Truly, chaos shall take the world!!!
The moments in elden ring where you stop and listen to the music of the characters like the bats, the flute page, and the buried merchants are amazing. Amidst the violence and constant struggle for power there's these beautiful quiet moments of calm and it makes me love the games all the more.
I felt defeated, when I found the sealed chamber deep in the catacombs, and of course, what was hidden inside. An entire people buried alive and forgotten, with some still clinging to life whilst playing this haunting melody. Great work, Alex, and thank you so much for giving us this rendition! 🙏
@@bungiecrimes7247, I know. My point was, most seem to have given out and appear dead, whilst some still cling to their violins and to this haunting melody.
@Joske Vermeulen, don't give up. Invest in a few good summoning ashes, and use them in battle, if you need. They're good at attracting attention from bosses, so you can do your thing. This game is a masterpiece!
You absolutely killed it with this song, I was blown away on first listen when creating this scene. Masterful music makes my job so much easier bc I can just envision the scenes in my head when I hear such moving tracks.
@@alex-roe Even though I’d absolutely love to, I don’t think I’d be able to commission anything atm, but id absolutely love to collab for a music video for one of your tracks if you’d ever be interested.
Golden Order jars and Hornsent jars serve entirely different purposes. One type carries corpses, the other live victims. One type feeds the tree of life, the other is little more than an execution device. One type is afforded relative freedom, the other lives in prison. There are many things to say about the Golden Order and Marika, but their use of the jars is surprisingly healthy, given their history.
@@an0N1M921I wouldn't go that far. I'd say Miquella would have been the worst, had he succeeded, and that the interim is assured by Radagon. I'd even put Marika below the Dung Eater, who himself is roughly equal to Goldmask. Entirely because, eventually, she shattered the Elden Ring, and with it the Golden Order.
@@draghettis6524 I disagree. Miquella's Age would have been illusory, but in a place like the Lands Between even a false paradise is better than the hell that came before. Marika's Age was bliss for a select few people, as was the age of the Crucible. 'Radagon's' age, after the Shattering, was miserable for everybody. We don't know what it was like during the Age of the Dragons. Dungeater's Age would have been the Broken Order of Marika, except now everyone is an Omen. This might end the discrimination, but with the DLC we can actually say that the Omens ARE a curse, which tracks since it can be a painful existence for those inflicted by it. Those horns aren't just aesthetic -- they can be very painful. Fia's ending is the single worst one, in my opinion. It's literally turning the Lands Between into a Zombie Apocalypse, where the souls of those who die remain in their rotting corpses to Live in Death. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad once everyone was dead and zombified, might get used to it in the long term, but no. No no no. I don't like it. Goldmask's has the best chance of actually fixing things, but we don't know exactly what it was that he fixed. It's considered to be one of the best, but we don't know. Ranni's is the best ending, as it takes the Elden Ring away from the Lands Between to give the people a chance to either fix shit themselves, or succumb to it. But, then again, even if she does manage to remove all the influences of the Outer Gods there's still Godwyn to deal with and his deathroot. Honestly, so long as Godwyn is a factor, I'll always choose the Frenzied Flame because there's no other ending that can guarantee his death. His corpse, and it's effects on everything around him, is just so inherently repugnant to me that I can't be comfortable with any other ending that might have a chance of him and his curse being in it. It's literally a 'Kill it with fire' thing for me.
@@atlasgraham154 I put much more weight on its permanence than on its illusory nature, and that's why I put Frenzied Flame at the bottom ( though, ironically, it is possibly less permanent than Age of Compassion, if Melina is left alive ) And tbf, there's a chance burning the Erdtree is sufficient to halt the spread of the Deathroot. After all, the roots and the rest of the tree are integral to each other's survival. And I wouldn't go as far about the Age of the Duskborn. Especially since, if they work like Godwyn, Those Who Live in Death have their souls destroyed, like they were for everyone upon death before Marika removed Destined Death from the Elden Ring ( also another point, if the Ring is discarded, does true death return to the world ? It was its intervention that removed it, after all. ) Goldmask's main issue with the GO is Marika being able to on a whim declare what is holy or not, also extended to the changing of gods over time. So he saught permanence, but in the way opposite to Miquella's ( and arguably by doing pretty much what every other Order before him did, aka try to ensure its survival until the end of eternity )
At 0:53 I love this part because you hear other instruments seeping in and then a whole bunch of new ones when the player has the madness in his head and he can hear all the instruments of those who passed on.
I like that interpretation a lot. The thought of having to bear witness to the suffering of all those merchants as they could do nothing but weep and play their haunting melodies would surely Madden even the most stalwart of minds.
Vaati did an amazing job on the whole video but this song is what made it for me. I always loved the music down there (kept me sane while failing the jumping puzzle) and hearing a full arrangement is amazing. Well fucking done!
“Then that’s what they shall get from us!!!” Holy shit was that amazing. That was Vaati’s best one yet. The amount of emotions that came from that one line is heartbreaking. This song was beautiful as well. Honestly the best part of the video.
I agree, that line and the line before it are the best in the video. It's heartbreaking and you can truly feel the contempt and hatred he holds towards the world. The music flowed beautifully with the dialogue, amplifying just the sheer level of despair consuming these merchants, Kale included.
Even with it being just a hand it still conveys so much emotion in it's movements. The way it tries to be gentle yet firm when grabbing you and the desperation as it crawls towards you. And the shakiness it has that most people get when in a manic state. It's a depressing but great representation of how the merchants must be feeling
Re watching that scene with these emotions in mind really changed the feelings of the scene. I always interpreted the clawing at the ground like you walked in and found the god of violence. The way the floor is burning specifically looks like the fires from forgings weapons.. the three fingers movement when they stop and really notice you, it’s like a snake right before it devours. The way it arcs back first before reaching for you.. it always seems so predatory and primal to me. And the scene of it grasping on to you, marking you.. the whole thing can be read the way you’ve presented or in a much more nefarious way lol I’m glad I was able to see it in a much softer light
What a wonderful adaptation of an already beautiful song. I can easily imagine the merchants hearing the early parts of this song in their heads as they reminisce of better days.
Have you heard of the Great Caravan? ...I see, more's the pity. Well, even we had a place to call home, once. The Great Caravan, they called it, but it's been lost to us for ages. I've been searching for it as long as I can remember.
Am I the only one left barely in tears each time im listening to this brilliant song? Apart from context wise of the merchant's demise, it's as if it's echoing into deeper, subconsious emotions within.
I'll never forget the first time i beat Mohg the fell omen and was sad thinking the treasure chest was all it was for, followed by the excitement when i hit that alter to open the door. followed by the horror of what was past the room and lastly sadness of the realization of what happened to them after reading descriptions. i sat my character next the the merchant for hours just listening and imagining what they went through slowly slipping into madness. all together playing this song until they no longer knew who they were anymore or why they were playing that song and what it meant.
That's how you experience this game. That's how a real emotional and beautiful understanding of this games story is formed in your mind. When you just sit down and stop running around and killing enemies, but simply sit and think. May Chaos take the world.
A theme originally made by St.Trina to calm the frenzy of the merchants became the mark of their despair. We have seen a part of the song in the DLC, tampered to a malicious leitmotif as if the frenzied flame was making a mockery of what St.Trina originally intended.
I'm going to leave this pinned for a while so anyone coming by can get updated on what's happened to my channel recently: I was targeted by Bandai Namco and specifically had covers I made from Dark Souls 3 removed as a copyright takedown (even one of my originals can you believe it). As a response to this I made private all my covers and relevant videos that involve music owned by Bandai Namco, in order to stop getting three strikes as part of RUclips's rules and prevent an account termination. Despite this, it happened anyway and I was given the notification that I had seven days before I'd lose everything here on RUclips. Thankfully due to some good connections and support through social media I was able to get some of the strikes removed and some of my videos restored. I still believe what's happened isn't entirely legal and to be honest I'm not 100% sure why the representatives of Bandai Namco backed down on the videos they did. I'm in the process of potentially working with a group that will be able to give my music protection when necessary, however I am not out of the woods yet. I have had people ask about this song in particular. I've already seen it reuploaded once to RUclips and I'm not entirely comfortable about that, even if it is in the best interests to keep it alive. So I'm making it public again and taking a chance based on these things: Bandai Namco hasn't targeted any of my Elden Ring material yet, the original song wasn't released on the soundtrack and by that account I'm not entirely sure Bandai Namco has the right to say they own that song (especially now Fromsoft owns the Elden Ring IP, even if BN are still involved), and finally I can spare one copyright strike on my channel so I'm willing to take that chance. Also, in the video description is a link to the song available on Bandcamp. It's always been there and you can bookmark or download that song (for free if you wish, enter 0 when it asks for payment) to make sure you always have it. The reason why this song isn't on Spotify or other services is because the original violin piece was not released on the official Elden Ring soundtrack, with my current distributor who handles the licensing of my covers they cannot license a song that doesn't exist on the soundtrack. I hope I can find a way in the future to distribute the song to all platforms but for now I am limited on where I can release it. If you love the song though I highly suggest downloading the song for free. As it is a cover I am not asking for your money, but if you wish to support me it would be extremely appreciated and I have a large discount on my discography. I would release the covers on Bandcamp for free but for some reason they do now allow free songs to appear in someone's collection on their account, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. This has been quite a long message so I'll wrap it up with a big thank you for all the support I've received, it's been very stressful and hurts as a content creator for something like this to happen. We shall see if I have interest to cover music in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC coming in June, but I have plans to work on my albums and game soundtracks in the near future. And it's been amazing to see how much love there has been for this cover in particular, Fromsoft truly has some of the best fans in the world.
They're overdoing it... you've done a fantastic job of transcending their music and offering a version that perfectly matches the wonder of the players diving into their world. In particular for the revival of the theme of the merchant and nokron.
I've listened to this for hours and I was so sad to see it disappear. Glad to see things are now somewhat under control. And as someone who rarely comments, I hope things turn out well for your music and this channel.
I just did the Flame of Frenzy for the first time, and this song caught me off guard. There’s a single merchant still alive, playing this surrounded by what must be hundreds of his slaughtered kin. It’s so interesting that this is what you hear as the three fingers take you, and begin the process of burning the world away
This shit legit makes me want to fucking cry. The song and the video are INTENSE and even though it's merely a video game I can say I haven't felt a real tangible emotion from a piece of media in a long time. Such heart wrenching emotion and torturous scenes. Good fucking job man to you and vaati and mispap
This song and this moment evoke something so visceral, so profoundly dark, and unfortunately, so real. I think of a film like Grave of the Fireflies and how it shows the brutal, agonizing consequences of war. That film holds nothing back from the viewer and it’s quite difficult to watch, but sometimes that’s what people need to see to understand the importance of a situation. War, conflict, death, they happen all the time and often for senseless reasons. Media like this is a reminder that we can do better as human beings and not allow history to repeat itself.
For now you can download this track from Bandcamp, for free if you choose. I cannot release this track on other streaming platforms due to the original song not being a track released on the soundtrack in the US: alexroe.bandcamp.com/track/song-of-despair This remix is in collaboration with VaatiVidya, for his newest Prepare to Cry (and Cry a Lot) video which you can watch here: ruclips.net/video/UFJtoVS8Qx0/видео.html Thanks Vaati!
Personally, I don't see the Frenzied Flame as a hate-driven Chaos Lord, but a deeply aching deity who's sunken to despair in its own grief, its empathy turned madness. This song encapsulates that idea perfectly: a god of sadness that seeks to mend the world by burning it to ashes, hoping to destroy with this the roots of all pain
I dont think Aldia would approve the complete wipeout of the Lands Between, considering what he only wanted was us to stop repeating the circle of events that ultimately leads to world cataclysm again. He did conduct the experiments and lost his soul for humanity, after all.
Imagine if Kale's questline had ended with him fighting you to claim your great runes and try to become lord of frenzied flame. I can imagine walking into the boss room to see "Kale, contender for frenzy" with this as the boss theme, and he could use chaotic madness attacks
Doubt he'll have enough strength for that. But him tapping into the frenzy and getting aggro at you if you don't follow the three fongers but return to him anyway could be one of the endings to his questline.
@@clementbeziat7198 idk i feel like the motivations are different enough. Gael kind of planned for himself to go crazy, and have you steal the dark soul to deliver to the painter. His motivation was a desire to make a new world because the old world was dead/dying. Kale's is to burn the world out of revenge for his people
I think him going mad with frenzy and you killing him at the way end after you succeed in getting the blessing of the fingers would have been a good ending. Like the end of Ahnri's quest when you find Him/Her by the grave of the other eaten orphans
I knew it! I was watching Vaati's video when that part came up and I immediately thought "that sounds like something Alex Roe would have made", and here you are, delivering yet another beautiful remix. Stellar work, those strings and choir really remind me of all your other FromSoft remixes, I hope you'll continue gracing us with more Elden Ring remixes in the future, be it per collaboration with Vaati or by yourself :)
although it’s heartbreaking we never got the Kale questline, there’s something about the fact we find the nomads tomb without any context that makes it all the more shocking. Seeing what remains of the merchants we take for granted along our journey with little to no knowledge on them as a race is a soul crushing realisation. Thankyou for this remix, such a beautifully haunting song.
We wanted to live in peace. We never figured out why we were scorned by grace. Put below the coffins, the omens, the dung. The world did not want us dead- it wanted us forgotten... erased. We asked why over and over to each other, but in time "why" turned to wails, turned to despair, turned to screams, even laughter. One by one each voice fell silent. A chorus of hundreds became a soliloquy of a few, now disjointed solos of those who somehow linger. Playing our song so someone may become our martyr. Savior? No, it is too late... at least for me. It's high time I sleep, is it not? Goodnight, brothers. May'st thy dreams be of the sky, the wind, trees, and flowers. May my dreams be so...
I've been listening to this while writing a short story for my English class and I have to say it's been the perfect inspiration, thank you for everything!
Same. As odd as it sounds sometimes I crave wanting to feel sad and melancholy due to the fact that I don't really feel anything at all. Music like this helps spark an emotion long lost to me even if for a short time.
Just completed my Lord of Frenzied Flame playthrough a couple days ago, when I heard this one I had to sit and just listen for a while. Phenomenal game with plenty of little details and atmospheric choices that really bring it together into a uniquely unforgettable experience.
This might be out of line considering this is already an absolute masterpiece -and I'm sorry if it is-, but somehow I wish that there was (also) a version of this song with just the mood of the first half. Yes, I know, I'm basically asking for a version that completely ignores the evil aspect of the Frenzied Flame which is most likely deceiving the despairing into bringing it to the Lands Between, it is an outer god after all. I guess it's just that the more "innocent" yearning of the merchants seems to me more beautiful than the end of the world in flames. There are some other orchestrations/covers out there that stay with the nostalgic feeling, but none as beautiful as the first half of this.
I agree. First half is tonally completely different. It feels more grounded and realistic. "Look at what people can do to one another and despair" rather than *LET CHAOS... TAKE THE WORLLDDD*
*_"Oh Tarnished One, thou who art of unbound fate. I beg of thee. Burn it all way, life and death, justice and vengeance, order and chaos, let it all turn into the vacuous nothing, let it all perish and never come back, neither ceaseless mist, ashes of cinder, or mulch of dark - let it all end forever."_*
I am learning the violin and I love the merchants theme in this game, and I realized that the theme the merchants play, plays into this perfectly. I hope to be able to play as well as you someday
To anyone coming back to listen to this, and anyone listening to this for the first time, let me paint you a picture: Imagine the great Caravan, forcibly thrown into the deepest bowels of the earth, hidden away behind a mound of stone and left to die. Now imagine all of them looking up as they are entombed, and one by one they begin to play this tune. First one, then another, and another, and another, until all of them that are still able play the song of despair as the light is slowly shut out. Imagine Shabriri smiling with his eyeless grin as the song summons the three fingers and the frenzied flame. Do this, and you may very well be in the proper headspace to fully appreciate how truly beautiful, and heartbreaking this piece of music is. Wonderful job, Alex.
I went down to the grave for the first time in elden ring last night. I can't remember the last time I got that emotional over a video game area. I just sat down next to the hollow shell of the normadic merchant and just listened to him play while getting tears in my eyes. I can't imagine the suffering they went through.
This is absolutely outstanding work. I can't put it to any more words than that because of how awestruck I am by this. It's like instant nostalgia for something that's so new, it gives me goosebumps. I'll be listening to this for a very long time.
Watching Vaati’s video, I knew something was off when it was slower than in game, but didn’t sound stretched. Absolutely incredible arrangement man. Great work.
WHY IN THE WORLD would Miyazaki decide to cut this content from the game??? This is singlehandedly the best quest and surpasses all NPC quests I've seen. If this was in game, the buildup and final reveal would literally make my blood boil and say fuck it all to the lands between and become chaos lord because this would be that tipping point that would turn my "character" into a villain. What they did to Kale's people is absolutely brutal even for genocide. This would've been the perfect quest to give us a good reason to pick the frenzied flame ending, not just for the cool end cutscene.
to me, the most evocative part of the frenzy flame ending is that the Three Finger arent… really frenzied. They tremble and shake, but they embrace you warmly. Then they disappear.
I had never, ever, been down here until my third playthrough, originally only for the final trophy, i was mostly unaware of the context on the ending, other than burning the world. And i had assumed it was the worst ending, but after making my way down there, far below the earth, forgotten by the world, and seeing the hundreds of bodies and hearing that song, i found a new respect for the frenzied flame.
Absolutely nailed the feeling of despair, on my 2nd playthrough, I wanted to get this ending, and after seeing what was down there, there was only one thing I had left to say... May Chaos Take The World
Funny how just one cut quest ends up having more impact than whatever that thing with Melina had with trying to stop us from getting the frenzied flame.
If Kale's quest was implemented, I might have been able to stomach going Frenzied Flame on a run, but as it stands that's not happening. I will say the merchant's music and this expansion are definitely the best bits of music from Elden Ring.
This part of the video made me completely change my mind about the Chaos Ending, and I don’t think it would have even been a fraction as effective without your music. Thank you, truly, for helping us experience this game in a new way.
Kalé delivers it much better than Shabriri. Really hope they restore his questlien with the DLC, since St. Trina had a connection to the merchants and tried to help them. Imagine Miquella finding out his momdad did this among other atrocities. No wonder he got fed up with the Golden Order.
The thing I love about Kale's deleted questline and the frenzied flame is the choice we as players have. You must decide between an restored order guided by grace, an age of stars, or total and complete annihilation of all. It has so many philosophical implications. I love the frenzied flame ending because if you decide that the world of Elden Ring is flawed from a fundamental level and will always end up in extreme forms of suffering in the future, all for some weird outer gods desire, you start thinking that maybe the best thing is to undo it all and maybe something better will be created in the future out of the chaos.
I like how the ending of the song adds new context to how the three finger burns you. Rather than a crazed hand cursing you with flamed frenzy, its more like a tired hand hugging you from the sheer insanity of the world of the lands between.
I like how the music matches with the video I like how in the beginning it starts off as a somewhat Melody if you can call it that and the more the video progresses the more it shows of the merchants and how they look now more instruments kick in and when we're close to the three fingers / the frenzied Flame that's when the choir kicks in and the tempo gets kicked up a notch I like to think when the choir kicks in that's the merchant guilds 'chant of Despair' as it's called but then it slowly drowns out into a Melody again and the choir slowly but surely goes quiet I believe they got what they wanted a Lord of frenzied flame to avenge them for their misjudge punishment to melt the world away in the yellow light of frenzied Flame
"O Three Fingers, throw wide the door. Please, bestow unto me the yellow flame of chaos. A frenzied flame to melt away the curses, suffering and despair. And the Order, entire. May chaos take the world."
this is called the song of despair yet to me it fills me with hope, hope that one day, torment, despair, every sin and curse, all that divides will be melted away.
This reminds me of Nearer my God to Thee. Honestly, someone should combine that with the Merchant's Song, they sound like they'd compliment one another
"It's not about what's right anymore... its about what's fair" that's the impression of what the frenzied flame ending felt to me, all the injustices, all the oppression, burned away, the golden order is gone, the age of frenzie is now... may chaos take the world
Just watched the new try not to cry episode, and immediately needed to find you. This gave me absolute chills. It perfectly captures both the tragic fate of the merchants and the beauty of chaos itself. Like it's telling me "We've suffered so much, but everything will be okay, because in the end everything will burn and be whole again"

also was the only real explanation for why everyone wants to kill you. they're all infected with some sort of madness- vengeance, obsession with Miquella, religious fervor for the golden order, despair, rot, what have you.
a curse of madness would have explained alot of the game's worse moments, and would have made the ambition to rise beyond it that much more profound
It's nuts to think they cut this side quest out of all of the ones in the game. This one is by far one of the most emotional and sad of the bunch. It definitely should have even been one of the main ones considering the Frenzied Flame is insanely important to the lore.

This. This encompasses the frenzied flame ending. It's a crushing lament. Frenzied flame's madness is quite literally the knowledge of all who suffered. It's grief turned up to the max
Yet it's interesting that shabriri, the face of frenzied flame clearly doesn't fit the bill of those who worship it. Perhaps its in line with the 3 fingers, who felt so scorned yet seem to indulge in the suffering. Willing to make *everyone* suffer just for the sake of vengeance.

Divest yourself of everything. Please, a Frenzied flame to melt away the curse’s suffering and despair. And the order entire. May chaos take the world. May chaos take the world.
Kale's questline made the Lord of Chaos ending feel justified.
Probably exactly why they removed it.
Lord of chaos is probably one of worst and most selfish endings as of now (the nomads seem to be victims in the current version)
Making them supporters of the frenzied flame instead of victims wouldn't really change much, unless the flame of frenzy got a completely different meaning
I feel as though, even if it is but a reset, it plays into the cyclical nature of worlds created by Miyazaki, a larger theme across his works.
Sounds like philosophical foppery to me to question “why go on”.

Seeing the jars in the pit surrounded by merchant corpses is SUPER telling with DLC context.
Marika truly is no better than those she overthrew.
Marika Is basically the worst villain of the game
@@atlasgraham154 I put much more weight on its permanence than on its illusory nature, and that's why I put Frenzied Flame at the bottom ( though, ironically, it is possibly less permanent than Age of Compassion, if Melina is left alive )
And tbf, there's a chance burning the Erdtree is sufficient to halt the spread of the Deathroot.
It was its intervention that removed it, after all. )
Goldmask's main issue with the GO is Marika being able to on a whim declare what is holy or not, also extended to the changing of gods over time.

I agree, that line and the line before it are the best in the video. It's heartbreaking and you can truly feel the contempt and hatred he holds towards the world. The music flowed beautifully with the dialogue, amplifying just the sheer level of despair consuming these merchants, Kale included.
Literally tearing up. Music like this really touches the soul.
@Ben Luttenberger don't be.
Especially when you know the context and story behind what it was made for. The emotion it evokes, it's tragically and despairingly beautiful
This is outstanding. It really captures the despair, anger and sadness Kale must feel learning what his people went through and still do to this day.

Well, even we had a place to call home, once.
The Great Caravan, they called it, but it's been lost to us for ages.

Am I the only one left barely in tears each time im listening to this brilliant song? Apart from context wise of the merchant's demise, it's as if it's echoing into deeper, subconsious emotions within.
I feel the same when a song evokes emotion so well like this one.
I call bs on the part where u sat next to the merchant for hours

That film holds nothing back from the viewer and it’s quite difficult to watch, but sometimes that’s what people need to see to understand the importance of a situation.
That’s a very mature way of looking at it
Young hollow, knowing this, do you still desire peace?
I dont think Aldia would approve the complete wipeout of the Lands Between, considering what he only wanted was us to stop repeating the circle of events that ultimately leads to world cataclysm again. He did conduct the experiments and lost his soul for humanity, after all.
This is a masterpiece. Chills down spine. The pain, the suffering, no turning back, solace in the inevitable demise.
As cool as it sounds it would have been a little too similar to Gael fighting you for to claim your Dark Soul in my opinion
He’d make a better final boss than the Elden Beast did, that’s for sure.

although it’s heartbreaking we never got the Kale questline, there’s something about the fact we find the nomads tomb without any context that makes it all the more shocking.
It's like once you hear this. You feel that madness build up inside you to find out more about the merchants and the Frenzied flame lore
Incredible reharmonization/arrangement/production work. Gave me chills.

Same. As odd as it sounds sometimes I crave wanting to feel sad and melancholy due to the fact that I don't really feel anything at all. Music like this helps spark an emotion long lost to me even if for a short time.
This song wonderfully portrays what I think is one of Fromsoftwares saddest stories yet. Excellent as always!
Just completed my Lord of Frenzied Flame playthrough a couple days ago, when I heard this one I had to sit and just listen for a while. Phenomenal game with plenty of little details and atmospheric choices that really bring it together into a uniquely unforgettable experience.
Came here from the shaman village. Time is a flat circle.
I get you, there is a tone shift in the last half that changes the mood
This is essentially a score so. Ask him to extend the first half, you never know.
I don't actually play an instrument anymore, this is just software and sample libraries.
To anyone coming back to listen to this, and anyone listening to this for the first time, let me paint you a picture:
Imagine the great Caravan, forcibly thrown into the deepest bowels of the earth, hidden away behind a mound of stone and left to die.
I truly wish they can add all of these deleted quest line back in the game, just to make the game more brilliant
Arguably the best two Souls content creators collaborating? PRAISE THE SUN!
This song is beautiful starts off merciful sounding and slowly devolves into horror much like the mentality of despair and frenzy
I like the remix, but that outro rendition of the song in 3:46 deserves its own separate cover
edit: the mad lad made it lol
As soon as I heard it in Vaati's video, I NEEDED to hear this separately. Great work!
Holy shit, this sounds like it came out of the official soundtrack. Good on ya!
i have endured more than enough
okay we went from pure emotion to comedy at the end nice surprise
I love how Midra's theme incorporates the Merchant song in it.
Absolutely nailed the feeling of despair, on my 2nd playthrough, I wanted to get this ending, and after seeing what was down there, there was only one thing I had left to say...
May Chaos Take The World
"THEN THAT'S WHAT THEY SHALL GET FROM US!"
revisiting this after the dlc and yeppp almost tearing up in the first minute 🥶🥶🥶
"Melt away the curses, suffering, and pain. Let chaos take the world."
Just imagine if this played as the credits music for the frenzied flame ending.
.
Holy shit why the hell didn't they do that?! I'm actually pissed
If anything it just makes me hate shabiri more for what he did to the merchants.
Those who kill the merchants for their bell bearing should be ashamed of themselves.
Man, when this song played in Vaati's video it honestly made me cry. So much raw emotion and tragedy emanates from it
Same! That’s how I found this video
This was honestly the best part of the entire video Vaati just put out and that's says something cause it was amazing. Bravo Alex.
This part of the video made me completely change my mind about the Chaos Ending, and I don’t think it would have even been a fraction as effective without your music. Thank you, truly, for helping us experience this game in a new way.
The Chaos ending is like sterilizing the Earth for all time because the Holocaust happened. It's utterly depraved madness.
This should have played in the credits of the frenzied flame ending
I can't help but feel that it's begging to be avenged. Demanding that you plunge further. That you claim the frenzy yourself.
It’s criminal that this hasn’t been uploaded to Spotify yet, it’s such a fantastically beautiful song
Believe me I would if I could, unless they officially release these little violin melodies in a soundtrack I can't license them.
@@alex-roe damn, that sucks something fierce:(
@alex-roe that really really sucks, here's to hoping they do with the release of shadow of the erdtree.
MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD
*MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!*
Love the callback during the bossfight, shi made me thrilled with the boss
I like how the ending of the song adds new context to how the three finger burns you. Rather than a crazed hand cursing you with flamed frenzy, its more like a tired hand hugging you from the sheer insanity of the world of the lands between.
yeah, just you bro. it's a need for chaos that comes with order.
I was crying through this whole thing. It’s just so beautiful and sad, especially knowing the backstory. It’s amazing.
Truly a masterpiece of a game it's sooo good the beauty, the sadness everything it's all perfection
1:32
During this part...All I could hear is the wailing and moaning of those suffering underneath the capital...
That hit me hard...
this is called the song of despair yet to me it fills me with hope, hope that one day, torment, despair, every sin and curse, all that divides will be melted away.
This reminds me of Nearer my God to Thee.
Honestly, someone should combine that with the Merchant's Song, they sound like they'd compliment one another
I couldn't agree more
The pain I went through to get to that god damn door was enough to convince me that life wasn't worth living and let chaos take the world.
"It's not about what's right anymore... its about what's fair" that's the impression of what the frenzied flame ending felt to me, all the injustices, all the oppression, burned away, the golden order is gone, the age of frenzie is now... may chaos take the world
Absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack, your version is fantastic.
Midra turned this song into an absolute banger
Fr
Just watched the new try not to cry episode, and immediately needed to find you. This gave me absolute chills. It perfectly captures both the tragic fate of the merchants and the beauty of chaos itself. Like it's telling me "We've suffered so much, but everything will be okay, because in the end everything will burn and be whole again"
Having the choir, like hearing the caravan sing, harmonize with the melody before turning to anger/frenzy/rage could've been an interesting twist
This is literally the medieval version of "why are we still here, just to suffer?"
Hits kinda different once you consider Marika's origins in the Land of Shadow
Undebatably the BEST Elden Ring song. End of story. So much emotion and lore behind it.
*Take the frenzied flame after burning Melina and become Lord of Chaos in the world without Melina.*
