Marcus, Dude! You're the reason I picked up a bass in the first place... The very first time I heard Run For Cover in 1981.... God Bless You! Keep it Funky!!!
Marcus miller is really a good guy...i meet him briefly, long time ago, and i wasn't feeling too good in my life. .and he always say hello to me, even when people where around him...and me , nobody around....that's all. I have to say ...
I've been listening for years and can't get enough of MM. If I play bass is mostly because of him! I have defined my own style by just hearing his stuff over twenty some years. Man! It's been a lifetime already...
So good, the master. Real music for musiclovers... Aint no repeating himself. Marcus has the blues, funk, jazz and soul like no one else. Comparing him to other great bassists is not possible everyone is unique, but Miller has been the greatest most influential player since he started. Sure he does a lot of slapping but his style is nothing about the technique och skills, just plain and simple feeling the the whole tune.
Despite the Plethora os M.Millervideos,I found THIS one Most Enjoyable...Kinda shows on ONE hand, his BUSINESS Sense,as Most "FANS" LOVE CLICHES!! (And,After ALL,we're talking "COMMERCE"!!) RESPECT!!
hi marcus, it was great to see you as if you were at home just practicing, i will always love your style of playing and of course youe music, keep up the brilliant work, your still the man, could we see more even a brief lesson or two !!!. im sure your army of fans would love a closer insight to your mastery even a few tips along the way, also i would like to see an indepth look at your gear and effect that help your sound. kind regards rob bradshaw.
Not boring if your a bass player! this is an inside look at one of the best bassists on the planet as a professional bassitst this is more interesting to me than the world series
That exercise he plays at 2:33 is the one Jaco showed him in a hotel room, I've seen Marcus talk about that day and this specific exercise in various interviews
Real Deal....period!! S*+t’s Swingin’ hard !great tone,Amazing feel, phrase and time.... playing f blues (be-bop) On electric bass And never sounding like typical bassist is an art... All non jazz players should really start to listen and try playing more music of Duke,Monk,Parker,Miles,Trane,Mingus,Evans,Nat King,Sinatra,Satchimo, Etc....... and maybe, just maybe by understanding this ....you’ll learn to appreciate what’s happening on this iPhone video..... Bless you for posting this
You don't need the video or the heading, our ears and soul knows who it is. The video does however give us fellow bass players some priceless tips on warm up exercises.
Ciao Marcus Miller, sei eccezionale!!! Io sono un musicista compositore arrangiatore polistrumentista professionista, di cui suono il basso, suono diversi generi musicali di cui il jazz fusion, ti seguo moltissimo! 🎸❤️
Joy is looking at you play what a great bass player you are miller. All love Rick Brennan from Change North Philly Love Peace! Tim like you to Ha ha ha ha!
Yeah.. I had to really search for clips of him playing fingerstyle... He does fingering very well like someone has said... find a track of his called Moons(fretless), and another called Rebop... Man's a true boss.
Well, he played with tour and record for Roberta Flack, Luther Vandross, Bryan Ferry, Lenny White, etc. I don't think he would have been getting all of that session and touring work if he only thumbed. Listen to this track with a 19 year old Marcus Miller: ruclips.net/video/_UqckmRlXx4/видео.html
So you're saying the way he's playing now is the same as when he was playing in the 80s? Repeat himself? You've got to be fucking kidding. His style has evolved all the way from the late 70s to the present. Nice cover of "Is this love" by the way but man you seriously need to upgrade what you know of Marcus. His track record speaks for itself.
Really? What about Detroit thats one of the coolest tunes Ive heard in a long time and its nothing like anything hes writtern...I dont consider touring a new cd with a brand new band a repeat but then again what do I know
Okay, so Marcus even his bass makes squeaking sounds sometimes. It's not just me, strings make noise, so do frets. Can you hear the high pitched ring ?. 0:26 ?. Is that a washing machine going ?. Marcus fingers are like steel cables, clamping down making those strings cry in pain ?.
I have to warm up to play his warm up
warm up for one year
😔🤔
marcus has been warming up since the late 70s
I wish he'd do more of his finger style solos on live performances. The lines are just mind-blowing.
Marcus expression and articulation is mind blowing.
A true musical treat!
Marcus, Dude! You're the reason I picked up a bass in the first place... The very first time I heard Run For Cover in 1981.... God Bless You! Keep it Funky!!!
Yeah Run For Cover. Insane bass line. Took me 2 years to figure out that darn slap bass line haha.
I am starting to sound like 13 year old Marcus right now !. I am 44, love it.
Marcus miller is really a good guy...i meet him briefly, long time ago, and i wasn't feeling too good in my life. .and he always say hello to me, even when people where around him...and me , nobody around....that's all. I have to say ...
Awesome !!! Marcus Finger Style is so great !!!
Saw this brotha in DC. Absolutely amazing
this man is a legend definitely one of the best alive in my opinion.
That tone from his practice amp is actually killer, different than his stage tone.
You Inspired me Since I'm 17...now I'm becoming Someone...who have Got his Own Sounds...Thanks For Inspiring me Marcus...Thanks So Much
I've been listening for years and can't get enough of MM. If I play bass is mostly because of him! I have defined my own style by just hearing his stuff over twenty some years. Man! It's been a lifetime already...
One of my favourite musicians :)
Man! He is pulling these Parker licks out like a sax player! Amazing.

Jeah me too

i would love to hear stuff like that on the next MM record

Потрясающе!!!! 🎸👋👋👋💥💥💫💫💫💫

Jay Corg, I have to agree with you. I’d much rather watch this, than the World Series. Marcus is amazing. He definitely inspires me to be my best.
he is THE master
The ease!!! Whew! I love you so so so...
the great MM.... thanks for posting
Really enjoyed, “Papa was a rolling stone” at Detroit Jazz Fest 2018
That exercise he plays at 2:33 is the one Jaco showed him in a hotel room, I've seen Marcus talk about that day and this specific exercise in various interviews
Marcus!!!
Blues is a good way to warm up. It just makes everything else flow better, imho.
This warm up was almost worth paying for.
Real Deal....period!!

He could as well do a whole show with that
@@mirak63 Touche, great point.
mano marcus miller tamo junto nesse som
Feel like marcus has kinda typecast himself as a slap n pop guy, but god damn the guy can play! Please play more stuff like this, its wicked!
Ciao Marcus Miller, sei eccezionale!!! Io sono un musicista compositore arrangiatore polistrumentista professionista, di cui suono il basso, suono diversi generi musicali di cui il jazz fusion, ti seguo moltissimo! 🎸❤️
That's an inane amount of bebop, he's the Charlie Parker of bass guitar!
Master Glamour !!!!
Super!
Slapで強烈なイメージが有るけど、これ観るとやはりJacoが大好きなんですね☆僕はマーカスと同じ時代に生きて幸せです♪
Yessir!!
dat groove.!!
Same here!
the very beginning reminds me of a bass song by jamaladeen tacuma - just the phrase with the 6th interval
Jaco is there with him
I can see him sitting on that couch next to him and smiling😁

Jaco was born in 1951.
@@BRUH-vb3vg December 1st 1951, so? you discovered hot water 😜
Joy is looking at you play what a great bass player you are miller. All love Rick Brennan from Change North Philly Love Peace! Tim like you to Ha ha ha ha!
Timmy Allen ain't no slouch either! LOL
I never knew MM can finger! I wish he play like this as much as he play slap!
He can play all bass guitar styles. But slap is his style just as fingering was Jaco's.
How did you not know? You must not follow his work.
Yeah.. I had to really search for clips of him playing fingerstyle... He does fingering very well like someone has said... find a track of his called Moons(fretless), and another called Rebop... Man's a true boss.

left leg , natural metronome .. :) reminds me the Monk documentary ..
The best
Groove Man MM. Yea !! Cool Post.
Ok, glad to know my practicing position isn't weird 😅
Blues in F? Amazing 🤩
😍🎸🔥
2:35 whole tone scale, Jaco showed him that exercise
The old Fender jazz bass model, before he put his name on the Sire basses the girl still sounds good.
💖💖💯👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
it sounds like jaco
Dude, I wish : )
What kind of amp do you used sir..looks like bridge pickup up only works here .awsome
time to transcribe and transpose!!
the last BIG jazz musician!! :)
toca d+
It's times like this that I wonder what Jaco would have thought of MM "doing" Jaco... I guess it speaks to both of their brilliance.
marcus isn't doing anyone else but marcus
Jaco and Marcus we're friends there's a great story Marcus tells about getting a lesson from Jaco in the recent documentary Jaco
Bass solos can be interesting, I'm just not crazy about jazz bass solos
Lol cant believe someone says “excuse me” while Mr. Miller is warming up.
Jaco miller
Bass king
this isn't really a warm up. It's a beautiful behind the scenes improv.
killer
He seems to play better off stage:)
no he plays flashier off stage. on stage he serves the Music.
How dare she messes his practice up !!!!
maybe it was time for him to go on stage
He should warmup directly on stage in the sofa
Really? What about Detroit thats one of the coolest tunes Ive heard in a long time and its nothing like anything hes writtern...I dont consider touring a new cd with a brand new band a repeat but then again what do I know
I wish he played finger-style more often; my ears need a break from the relentless percussiveness of slap!
I meant to set INSANE!
Is it EBS combo amp ?
I can understand you frustrations. Feel sorry man...
I meant to SAY INSANE - damm HTC swipe keyboard!
so many scales
Watching him warm-up is even entertaining....
Lol at him just slouching in an awful position noodling. My practice sessions in a nutshell.
is it possible he's getting better?
I could give you some lessons, because you are good, as long as you teach me how to play the bass!😊
what are butter notes?

I wonder why his bass makes so much fret and string noise!! Apart from the notes he is playing it is such a loud bass he must have very low action
who can explain to me what he's playing
petite révision 10 minutes avant le spectacle ?? LOL !!
Wow, the audacity of whoever it was that interrupted Marcus's playing and thus the video...
lol maybe it was time for him to go on stage
!?He came to japan?Oops.....l wanted to go there.....
will he come to japan again?
you mean have a go :P
good one i guess
He's been ripping like that for years. Get some older Micheal Urbaniak and stuff like that and listen!
Sounds like his action is low.. I hear string buzz..like a mf
Who says bass isn't as cool as guitar?
I think neither your brain nor your ear is functioning. Does not matter what are the instruments, you can't listen to it anyway. Poor guy/gal... :-)
you ears need to begin developing
