- Travis Teller Named New Student Mental Health Coordinator at Diné College.
TSAILE, Ariz. (June 21, 2024) - The Student Affairs department at Diné College is pleased to announce the appointment of Travis Teller as the new Student Mental Health Coordinator within the Student Engagement and Leaders division.
Teller, of the Towering House clan (Kinyaa’áanii), was born for the Water Flowing Together clan (Tó’áheedlíinii). He brings a wealth of experience and a deep cultural understanding to his new role. His maternal grandparents are of the Big Water clan (Tótsohnii), and his paternal grandparents are of the Irish people (Dígí Dalchí’í). Originally from Black Rock, Arizona, Teller currently resides in Tsaile, Arizona.
Teller holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology and possesses 15 years of experience in the mental health field. He has honed his expertise through both Western and Diné methodologies, developing a comprehensive approach to holistic wellness. Teller is recognized for his ability to integrate innovative counseling techniques from both cultural perspectives to promote prevention and education in psychology.
"I am passionate about empowering individuals to overcome challenges, discover their full potential, and lead more fulfilling lives through compassionate counseling services," said Teller. "My interest in Diné culture, customs, policies, ethics, and way of life has been longstanding. I believe these elements are essential to my approach in providing balanced and harmonious mental health support."
Teller's dedication to Diné philosophies and language, particularly the principles of Sa'ah Naagháí Bik'eh Hózhóón, has led him to become a Diné practioner. His commitment to these ideals ensures that his counseling strategies are both innovative and inclusive, combining Western and Diné cultural approaches.
As an alumnus of Diné College, Teller feels a profound obligation to give back to the institution by offering effective counseling services. His ultimate goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where students can discuss their challenges, feelings, and goals.
