Discovered Fiano about a year ago. It’s become one of my favorite white wines. I am seeing California winemakers starting to produce it. Thanks for the video.

Thanks so much for doing these casts they are helping me so much with revision for my Unit 3 exam of the WSET diploma - less than 2 weeks to go! It's good to read texts but your cast put it all into a manageable bite sized context 😊

    Dear Unknown Winecaster,
I humbly want to express my sincerest gratitude for these winecasts. I have been using them as a study aid as I prepare for my WSET Diploma Exams. They are my saving grace when my eyes are tired from looking through wine atlases, and I am weary of Jancis's dry academic tome. I put these on and let your smooth jazz-radio voice tell me about the genetic relationships between Monduse Blance, Viognier and Syrah, the Latin meaning of the word 'Oc or about the greatly overlooked wines from the Valle D'Aosta.
Thank you for taking the time to put these up week after week my mysterious wine Guru. Looking forward to more content on Italy!
    Kind Regards,
    - Andreas Deutschmann

Thank you for the kind message! I really enjoy doing these (and wish I didn't have other distractions that kept me from being more consistent in my publishing them) but the original reason that I thought to do them was that when I was working on my first certification there was no resource quite like what you described -- something fact-dense that I could listen to rather than read -- so I thought I might make a small contribution in that direction. I'm glad to hear that they've made a positive difference to others. Thank you again for letting me know. Cheers! -- Classy F#%kn' Winecaster.

I totally agree... Not a particular fan of the oxford Companion to wine due to the very dry text with lots of run-on sentences and typos and spelling errors x_x... This is definitely very useful and helpful

I know, right. I just realized I didn't have any in the house (let alone the fridge) to celebrate with. Poor planning on my part. Cheers!

Thank you for that informative summary of a great wine variety. The variety is a recent arrival in Australia. The first commercial release was in about 2005. Growers in South Australia have had spectacular success. There are now approaching 100 wineries producing wine from Fiano.

That's great to hear. I'm glad Fiano is finding a home down under. Thanks for the information and cheers!

Australian wines to me are way overrated because the climate just throws them out of balance I always have viewed Australia as the country for jug wines. Like the California Valley is basically good for nothing but jug wines.

It's been awhile! Glad I found the time to visit your channel again😁 I really like the "pesto in a bottle" part. Makes a lot of sense 😜🍷Skål!

Good to hear from you! Like I said in the cast, "pesto in a bottle" if you allow for notes of tropical and stone fruit in your pesto, but it still works. Cheers!

If you haven't already tried it, Oliver's Tarrango in McLaren Vale makes a lovely, complex Fiano!

I hope you find some! What're the liquor/wine laws like in Kentucky. I think the only one I know that's specific to that state is that you can't be wine (or is it liquor) in supermarkets/grocery stores but only in pharmacies or dedicated liquor stores. Is that correct? How hard or easy is it to find unusual grape varieties out your way? Genuinely curious. Cheers!

The Unknown Winecaster you can sell any alcoholic beverage at grocery but has to have separate entrance. Doesn't apply to liquor stores or drug stores. Can invent, and distill liquor Bourbon) just can't sell in grocery W/O separate entrance. Go figure. Can sell beer anywhere. We have a few big stores like total wine, I'll ask what the availability is. I know a few people who work for Brown Forman I'll ask them as well.

That's good info to know. If you have Total Wine nearby you should be able to find the Donnachiara that I have pictured in the cast. It's the one between the two noodle dishes on the slide that's two from the end of the cast. I've had their Greco and Falanghina as well, which were both very good. Cheers!

About ten years ago George Vare was making some extraordinary Ribolla Gialla grown on his property in Oakville. Have you encountered this grape, and have you or could you do a cast on it? Thanks!

You got the age worthy part wrong as it is considered to be able to age for long periods of time
