      Es I have been looking forward to this video every since watching the making of ds1 and you mentioned it at the end I think? Or maybe it was a clip announcing that it was going to be alot bigger and that you were shocked at how much went on behind the scenes during the making of this game, I really do enjoy your videos alot they are more informative and seem to dive deeper into alot of the smaller details which usually come from some pretty interesting interactions and some time luck or a mixture of both, your style seem more in depth and very unique, and I love it mate. Please continue and I'm writing this at only 20 seconds into it lol that's how much trust I have in you as a creator

    • @azure5584
      @azure5584 Год назад +1

      Hello sir.
      Your timestamps aren't working because your video description doesn't begin with them. I suggest you edit the video description so that the very first line of text begins with: "00:00:00 The Game Reveal", as otherwise the actual timestamps will not appear on the scrollable grey/red progress bar - that being the whole purpose of having timestamps to begin with.
      Yeah we can look them up now but that requires opening the description, whereas it should be available by simply pressing the arrow keys on your TV remote.
      While you are at it, please also make that same change for the making of dark souls 1 video's description, because it also doesn't have working timestamps.
      Amazing work as always and thank you!

    My heart truly goes out to the DS2 devs. They had to put on a happy face and parade a half-salvaged game around in the face of insatiable fan expectation, all the while knowing that the genius behind the original title was crafting Bloodborne behind the scenes.

    • @dondonrv
      @dondonrv  Год назад +27

      Exactly! The things they are aiming for with that torch and darkness, is something inherent in Bloodborne. Tanimura is a very patient man, after they made him do all those events / promotions. (And if it is not clear to most viewers, his answers were all scripted, he can't deviate from it as From+Bandai don't want another Shibuya scenario / backlash)

      I think a lot of the hate for DS2 was due to the downgraded lighting effects from the trailers, and Miyazaki fanboys who were looking for any reason to hate on it because Miyazaki didn't direct. I think it would have been more well received if they hadn't focused so much on those insane lighting effects early on, and just slapped Miyazaki's name in the director credit. DS2 had some of the best exploration, weapon/ armor variety of any of the souls games.

    In an ironic twist of fate, the much hated Tomb of Giants pitch black darkness mechanic requiring a lightsource became the crux of ds2's gravitas and also, in it's complete final product absence, it's ultimate downfall as this betrayal would ultimately cement ds2 as the black sheep of souls games.

      I love DS2 and I play through it a couple times every year! I don't think it's nearly as bad as some people make it out to be...I think the biggest thing I don't like is the snap point movement...It feel strange at first, but I quickly got used to it...

    Very interesting video essay! I discovered many things I didn’t know. Ds2 is my favorite of the three souls. Knowing how troubled was the development it’s almost a miracle they were able to finish it an make it so successful. I remember when it was released despite some criticism the majority of the fanbase still loved it. I feel the hate towards dark souls 2 truly started to rise after ds3 was released. Even many self proclaimed dark souls expert changed their opinion dramatically, and that’s quite interesting. Anyway thanks so much for the great work! I really look forward to see the dark souls 3 development history ;)

    Amazing work, Dondon, you have a new, trusty subscriber here. As for DSII, it was a game that could not possibly live up to the amount of expectations created by its predecessor. Its failure is somewhat rooted in the misunderstanding or lack of implementation of core "Souls" values, a feat that - in all fairness - the saga would never pick up again with the same confidence and splendour, leaving other branching ideas to shine by following the original inspiration (Bb and Sekiro, for me).

    Dark Souls 2 was my first game in the series, I played it with friends on the PS3. While I hold many dear memories about it, since this was the game that got me into the series, It is true that the quality overall is way below that of DS1. Not only in graphics but level and enemy designs are inferior. However despite all that I think DS2 is a truly special game with lots of content to enjoy. So I'm not blinded by nostalgia with it being my first Souls game, I have no problem in saying that it's by far not the best Souls game but it is indeed a very good game.

  • @animaniacman8385

    Dark souls 2 was my introduction to the series. Despite the claimed attempts to make the game more accessible, i was frustrating and confused at first and put it down 30 minutes in. My oldest brother convinced me to give it another shot with some crucial advice that allowed me to understand what dark souls is all about. I was hooked after finishing Heidi's Tower.
    I'm biased when it comes to dark souls 2, even after playing the rest from the series. I love dark souls 2 and it is my favorite game ever!

    I know the game is not the best Darks Souls game, but I really liked it. The atmosphere was really melancholic, the music of the resting place is the best of the series. dark souls 2 was my first souls game and it was one of the most memorable experiences i have ever played apart from someone i know telling me dark souls1 was hard i didnt go in with any expectations about trailers or graphics and i was very impressed by the quiet eerie yet relaxing ambiance the emptiness of majula with the sunset and desolate surrounding was better than any story because it allowed you to project your own story .. a sens eof despair yet someohow against yuour own will predesevering and the gameplay really matched that becuase it was disempowering. how slow you are and how limited your stamina and hp are and how slowling your stamina recovered and how long the animation are and slow your recovering is which makes every actin a huge commitement .. the poise system and staggering weapons the chip damage from the early shield . the weight and agility systems and many more systems even the geometry of levels . everything was against you the learning curve was intimidating but i kept coming back because it never felt unfair. you can sense the incredibly high skill cieling because pf the tight controls .and after hundreds of hours i was speedrunning th game in less than 60min . i played the game at the right time too 10 years was like the beggenning of the downfall of society . so it wasnt only impressed with the gameplay this game resonated with me in any ways. as for the criticism it doesnt make sense to me that its the first thing to come up when searching about ds2 . i get it the game is clearly unfinished and the map isnt interconnected andthe textures are basic and itll feel like a downgrade if you played ds1 first. but the game isnt about visuals and graphics. its about artstyle and combat the rpgs mechanics ect.the only criticism i agree with is false advertizing. but still with all its flaws the game is a masterpiece.
