The second half of this track is the most hard hitting shit, man. It causes me physical pain to listen to, and I can't stop. What a fucking verse, dude. It's not killing it, it's killing me. This is the kind of shit you can't talk to other people about. We are all very lucky to have found this shit.
He was my best friend, since second grade. Had to cut ties after he stole money from me several times and then tried to blackmail me. He got committed after beating up his parents. He came to my house all bloody and shit and I had to call his parents. Last I heard he was robbed at knife point by some dealers. I told him to stop talking to those kinds of people so many times. There are so many things I could talk to only him about. So many things that I could only laugh about with him. I can't save his life, and the pain can't go away no matter how many times I say this to myself. The thoughts rearrange in their brains sometimes. It will never not feel like it's all my fault.

This two part track means the world to me. Im a week sober off heroin.. been trying to get this thing for 6 years.. this track is too real. I dont dream often. Ive made sense of my own god.. but when using.. if i hit a nod, which was rare, every so often I would have the same dream or vision or whatever and it was ALWAYS the same, familiar “dream” and it was always extremely lucid until I came out of it and would struggle to grasp what just happened. Gives me chills...
I would be in a dark hazy room or something with a table in the middle of it.. me on one side, and an unknown entity on the other... I would have some form of currency (never able to remember what it was, if anything it was a stack of golden coins but it was so much more than currency) and I would just be sitting there trading it to the entity for basically nothing in return.. over and over and over again..
Fuck.. FUCK HEROIN. Uneven Compromise 100%
Man last time I saw Ugly live on Halloween I was on dope again.. wish I could have asked him why he named the track what he did...

thank God you got out man. it was meth i was falling into when he pulled me out by the most insane means. seek Jesus, man. you won't regret it. being clean is great, but without that Cornerstone, not to bum you out, but it's no guarantee of staying clean.
find the verses Luke 11:24-26. drugs didn't exist in Jesus' day the way they do today, but the experience he describes is exactly that of drug use and recovery and relapse. you get the 'demon' out and you're all 'swept and garnished' inside, and, in the worst case scenario, the demon comes back with seven others worse than himself, to find his 'home' all clean and emptied out. why is it empty? because nothing lasting was put in there to fill it up so no demons could come in anymore. and I'm gonna tell you there is no lasting thing apart from Jesus. money, girls, steady work, hobbies, friends, whatever else we can fill ourselves up with is gonna fail and we'll eventually be empty again, and "the devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8), and no one is easier to devour than the sheep lost without a shepherd to keep him full. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, as he said in John 10:11-15. God cares about you, man, and he wants to save you, that's what the oft-repeated verse John 3:16 is about. reconcile yourself with God, you will never regret it. just believe Jesus died to pay for your sin and that he rose from the dead to prove he was the Son of God. and if you can't believe today at least look into it for yourself while you still can. as long you're breathing it's not too late to give your life over to God. and remember to thank him for each breath until then. i hope you will consider these things. I'll pray for you. God bless

I always interpreted it as Lil Ugly Mane switching up his style from a hardcore horrorcore rapper to a concious rapper, hence the "doesn't he have some kind of social responsibility? Should he change his style?" stuff that's in between the verses. It's Lil Ugly Mane realizing he as a rapper has the ability to impact people positively and decides to become socially concious.

something like that. listen to the interlude starting at 4:20 (??):
      "labels"
      "feel no guilt"
      "taking your money"
"the reason that my people say they tired of rap"
plus the sound in the back of the words, that mounting tension indicating some kind of frustration, before the second track busts out
exactly why he refused to join any label or make rapping a 'grind'. at the time he recorded this, he's disgusted by the superficiality, the lack of conscience, the mindless greed, and how everything is just rehashing what's been done, making no efforts to progress the artform, tiring the whole genre out and making the whole culture look bad as a result, or whatever. thus the greater purpose for writing this track. he's thoroughly sick of what the industry glorifies, hence the "does he have some sort of social responsibility?" sample.
basically all the kids who said/say they wished he kept doing Ugly Mane cause they like the satanic teenage angst-sounding hiphop have no idea what he was really trying to do with this project. really good music (or any art) doesn't keep you bogged down nodding your head stoned out of utility to the world around you. it pushes you to think about what the hell you're even doing and why and why you're not doing something bigger, if you're not; and if you are it pushes you to keep on keeping on, and harder. music like this should be enjoyed on repeat only until you absorb it and don't need to hear it anymore. almost like a cathartic thing. this is why things like Ugly Mane end. there's all kinds of examples of this in entertainment of all sorts. stop saying you wish X had kept doing more. it's all going according to plan.

Nah when Trick Dice came out, Lyle specifically mentioned how he hated that people try to fit these layered lyrics with the "metaphysical missile to your physical membrane" or create these giant underlying narratives that arent immediately realized that people gotta get a magnifying glass for. The only thing he really gave a shit about was freestyling in the basement with some homies and having fun with it, really enjoying spittin' back and forth. But yeah, for sure he didnt care about the marketing and pushing this sound further. He had fun with it but it just became a task rather than something to flow with

    [Intro]
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
    [Verse 1]
Enter my chamber you never will leave
Festering bodies will cover the streets
    Satanic prophecies, Christian hypocrisy
Bury me deep in the filth and disease
Open my mind and then hammer it closed
Into the darkness I'm strangled and choked
Tracing the patterns and numbers in smoke
Blood on my dagger from enemies throats
Crucify ghosts in a frozen abyss
Ocean of planets in total eclipse
Nowhere I wander wherever I drift
Using a razor to open my wrists
My body is vacant, my soul is enslaved
To a hatred as ancient as day and night
Ladder of Jacob, the devil awakened
In hell I created, I pray tonight
    [Hook]
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
    [Verse 2]
    Same wolf from that folklore
Drinking blood right out of that that goat horn
I'm post-mortem, these boys want war
I transport 'em, right to Hell
In a trance when I write the spell
Leave the blood on my hands cause I like the the smell
In the death business, you the clientele
Motherfuckers can't win cause I'm trying to fail
Flesh is the fabric that covers my robes
Blood is the matter that built up my throne
Nothing but shadows, I'm waiting alone
Deep in my coffin, I call it my home
    Cowering and broken
I'm a victim of my evil deeds
But I don't need your sympathy
    I'm comfortable in misery
    [Outro]
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep
Corrupted by the darkness, now you fall into an endless sleep

god, im so late but this song is so amazing. Listening to a story in rap is something i never really come across. this is the story of someone corrupted by his own mind. a sociopath who is trying his best to get back in touch of his own emotions. he lost everything. he is miserable. but he feels no guilt. even though he (maybe) harmed his children, he can't feel anything. but he doesnt want to feel this way, hes denying the way he thinks so much that he lost himself. he is miserable. he needs solace but cant escape his own mind. he is the evil he doesnt want to be.

This is the logical end of hip hop, everything has been done, in the end hip hop trangresses it's genres and goes full on deconstruction, everything breaks down along wih the dream of the romantic idea of gangster life, talking about life experinces and so on. • @ThirdDimensionalBeing
      @ThirdDimensionalBeing 9 лет назад +78

this is definitely more than a simple throwback sound. I feel like whats being deconstructed is the idea of what Rap is. And that is just getting people to really express themselves without being scared if it sounds like a "rap" and just making it their own. And this means taking on influence from artists and ideas that would seem COMPLETELY foreign, or unrelated to the genre. at the end of the day you kinda just question why the fuck we want to put rules in our head as to what an abstract thing like Rap, should or shouldn't be.
