As an Australian, I will never, ever drive past a small town and think: "nothing ever happens there".
If a town of 12 people can't get on, how can the world get on?

This documentary was in my netflix recommendations. The love, the hate, the backing biting and the simple but crazy personalities make this a must watch. I was gobsmacked then saddened, but the ending was bittersweet🥲. I loved every minute of this documentary.

Highly enjoyed this documentary, it's like the new 'Tiger King' . I realized later on - this documentary is also a snapshot of the Aussie spirit, ethos and psyche. It really stays with you after watching. And even now there is an Aussie voice in my head akin to the Pie lady in the doc. The producers did a great job capturing a great story and getting all the right people in front of the camera somehow. Real-world crime doc always beats fictional hollywood thriller stuff.

I wouldn't frame it generally as 'aussie spirit'. This is mainly a reflection of outback country aussies, majority of aussies live in the cities.

The people of larrimah do not define the Australian spirit or ethic at all. Things like our pub culture yes but the average Australian person is nothing like any of them.
The people of larrimah are generally outcasts and don’t fit in to standard society. Tend to alienate themselves, have major mental health and substance abuse issues. You’d find 90% of Australians who drive through there leave saying what a bunch of strange people

One of the best true crime documentaries I've seen in a long time!! Very entertaining and compelling!! Makes you want to know more!!! My theory is that Owen and the pie lady were both involved, the pie lady has just been better about keeping her mouth shut, and Owen hasn't. Or it could be like that guy in Missouri that the whole town hated and he was killed in front of the whole town and " no one saw a thing ", maybe a few more of them were in on it. Like the one who died of cancer later. Maybe they had all had enough.
