- I bought this "Earthquake" tiller from Menards in Rhinelander. Got it here and put it together and started using it in the garden. This tiller is one of the worst designs I have ever seen. The tines spin backwards while the tires spin forward. All it does is sits and digs a hole unless you lift up the back to get it out of the hole and push it forward to keep it going. I don't know about anybody else, but who wants to push a 190 lb tiller around the garden. Also it doesn't stay in a straight row it wants to go back in the spot were it was already worked up. I called down to Menard's to see about returning it. When I finally got to talked to someone all he could say was haul it back and we will look at it and if it is okay we will give you in store credit. Or the only way you can get your money back is to take it to Menards service center, that is over 60 miles away in Minoqua, and have a tech go over it at my expense. Then if it is 100% perfect we will give you your money back. I am already out the expense of hauling it home, the time spent putting it together, putting in the gas and oil, and now Menards want us to haul it all the way to Minoqua and pay the tech's fee and then IF he says it's 100%(which he won't because there is dirt on it). Then I return it to Menards in Rhinelander. After all that, Menards might give our money back. But when you add up all the expenses and subtract it from the total price of the tiller, I would be only getting half of my money back. Here is a video of how great this magic machine works
100% operator error.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to own power tools.
That tiller is actually doing a great job. If the rear tines moved in the same direction as the wheels, then in would be projected forward at a faster rate and would not be as effective in turning the soil. The trick here is to lift up on the handle to the degree that you are breaking up the amount of soil that you want (say 3-4"). The idea here is that the rear tines "hover" to the depth you desire. In all fairness, try out a technique that has been suggested in these comments and then re-post.
I've got the same tiller and it works great. Looks like operator error to me.
You have the depth guide sent to deep
Tiller is great! Operator is clueless on how to set up and operate a tiller.
You could try adjusting the tiller depth of cut lever, to a more shallow position.
Sad that you don’t understand it’s a counter rotating tines. It’s doing a damn good job!
You need to learn how to operate it, You have it set wrong and digging too deep. Doesn't look like it needs tilled anymore.
The new version of this has huge pneumatic tires, and you also need to lift up on the handle, otherwise your just digging a hole.
Thank god I watched ‘‘tis video. I’ve been getting pissed off all day in the sun trying to figure out why my wheels werent turning and I had to mule push it the whole time
Yes its like having a dog and barking yourself. But I kind of cured the problem by making a bracket and hanging a 2 foot piece of railroad track on the front. I still have to push but it's a lot better.
@@petejohnson6317 there are pins on each wheel that lock the wheels on the shaft from free mode.
Looks like its doing exactly what it was designed to do. Looks like operator error. It's not a robot.
The soil is already broken up and tilled. What are you trying to accomplish?
Thank you. I think this answers my question. My guess is this only has CRT and not SRT? From my reading you need a machine with both if you want a tiller that breaks new ground and then can be used for cultivating.
the soil is overly tilled...At least it looks like it to me.
I think the problem is the tillers wheels and the soil i have the same tiller with different wheels and it works just fine
Tilling is a lot of work
First time running a tiller?
I don't think it's his first time , slick. Have you operated this thing? If not, then shut your piehole, because you obviously don't know anything about what you're commenting on. I have this tiller and those wheels are junk junk!
You were doing a great job using this tiller. This ignorant thing won't pull anything with these junk wheels. If I get sone pneumatic tires it'll probably work fine.
@Greg Hunder thank GOD I;m not the only one to notice that...thats the first thing I saw ....i was thinking jesus dont let htis guy drive in the winter time he'll have a 20 car pile up....because he doesnt understand the concept of traction
Obviously first time using a tiller 😅
I bought the same tiller. Other commenters have great advice, but to those on here that are thinking of buying this a word of advice from me. Buy a tiller with air tires. This damn thing has no traction and is a pain in the ass. I am currently looking to find air tires.
I was going to buy it --I changed my mind. Thanks for review
There are two designs of tiller as far as the tines go: counter rotating and forward rotating and they serve two different purposes. Counter rotating are not considered cultivation tillers. They are more for breaking up sod and dirt. You'll even see counter rotating tillers used on job sites where a lot of top soil need to be broken up.
Forward rotating tillers are more for prepping already turned earth and also for weeding between rows.
You simply purchased the wrong tiller for your needs. Just a bit of research would have made sure you didn't purchase the wrong tool.
That tiller has both a front rotating and reverse rotating modes.
I have this machine and it works great. Not sure why it's so hard to figure out that if you put one wheel into soft tilled dirt it's going to want to head that direction. Just guide it where you want it to go with small corrections and put more weight on the wheels if it settles into the tilled soil.
LOL thinking the same thing..wtf tills with 1 wheel in tilth and 1 on compacted soil? 😂😂😂😂
You don't have any idea how to run a tiller. if you drop the rear spline down, it will not till as deep. Total operator error.
Mine goes through forward belts like crazy . Besides that gr8 tiller
Only rotory price
Wrong tool for the job. You have loose sand y soil. You should be using a front tine tiller.
Yep...100% operator error. Walk behind the damn thing and put TWO HANDS on the handle bar.
Then make two passes right next to each other on compacted soil then the third pass both tires will be in the tilled soil.
EDUCATE yourself how to do a job before you attempt to do it.
I made the mistake of buying one the tires reach out grab pants if you get to close the are hard to operate in a straight row after just a few hours running the drive belt broke was unable.to find a belt even called the manufacturer and they didn't have one either so unreliable and hard to operate
