  • Using A Troy Bilt Hiller/Furrower | Garden Update | Man About Home
It's time to dig some hills/furrows in our vegetable garden. And 200 feet of furrows is a lot of back breaking labor!
When I got my Troy Bilt Horse tiller, it came with a New Old Stock Hiller/Furrower, still in the sealed box
    like it was new.
I decided it's time to put it to good use. So in this video, I'm unboxing, assembling and installing it. Then I'm using it for the first time in our garden.
Putting my learning curve aside, it works really well. After I've had a little more practice using the hiller/furrower attachment, my results will be great and it'll save me hours of hard work.
If you get any value out of this, please hit that thumbs up!
    It's all about experience.

I bought the 7 hp Kohler model in 1984 with the hiller/furrowed and still have it. It starts on first or second pull.

Them instructions always get In the way 😂 . We all make mistakes. Nice tiller. Please do more videos.

Dude that thing works like a champ! You have beautiful soil to grow in…

Now I know what my landlady had hanging it the barn that I always wondered what it was for, not that I necessarily need it. Thanks so much.

Good to see your video! I have 1973 Troy Built Horse Professional model. 7 HP Kohler. It's a beast. I have all the original paper work. It shows all the attachments. Even a snow blade for front installation. Sure don't make the like they used to.

Hey I'm 73 yrs old, I've been using my 1988 Troy Bilt horse every year.

  • @domading2759

Your whole garden is about the size of my green bean plot.. I am impressed with your soil though!

  • @tomb8564

I use my 1978 Horse even still.

  • @Rifleman1964

Id try it without the wings if you want deeper and closer together. Or maybe make some shorter ones out of 1x4’s.

I have one of these Tillers. They are wonderful for open field and when you have plenty of room. They are a pain to maneuver in small fenced gardens. I learned from you to rearrange my rows to have long rows.

  • @silverbullet7434

They work really well. You must use high range to get its best output. I had one it would hill potatoes plants.set the depth gage all the way up.

I'm in my fourth year of using a Horse Tillers with the Hiller Furrower. I have to raise the hills so my plants will have dryer feet in our west NE Texas Springs. I pre till the soil for several passes as deep as I can. In spite of this during the making of three or more rows, the machine will crawl left or right for some reason leaving a lot of reshaping with a rake. Seems I can't true the rows up with the tiller. It seems I'm magnetically drawn to space my rows 36" center to center yet when growing anything other than single row onions, that proves too narrow for later cultivation. I've offset this by using a hiller/furrower from one of my old Pony Tillers which is narrower which helps. In other parts of my gardening, I use a David Bradley with several implements, a Farmall Cub and a Super A Wider spaced in those instances. With all that though, I always find a use for the Horse Tiller. Also in our area, Grazon treated hay in the past has knocked some of my crops in the head causing me to discontinue it. It's hard to find around here that it hasn't been used on. Thanks for sharing your video.
