They'll go: "there's that person I know" and he'll be: "yeah no, that's me, there's about one version of *me* for everyone that'll fly under the radar. He said/showed that in at least two episodes... So the Smiths know and often forget/remember/discover that this or that person is just another persona Roger hadn't told them about. It's silly but it's still cannon.
Uncle Roger That’s one of my favourite lines: along with some of Roger’s lines in the episode “Don’t Look Smith Horse in the Mouth”, when Roger is a jockey, & Stan has to switch his mind with the horse, after he accidentally molests it, because of Roger’s lies haha. It starts with the scene after Roger gets Stan to buy the horse- and Roger tells Francine about it, despite Stan telling him to not say a word, and Roger saying that he wouldn’t...though it’s Roger, so, Stan really should have known he’d tell her anyway haha. So, after Stan punches Roger in the arm, for constantly telling Francine about all the messed up stuff he was doing, in order to keep his SUV: Roger said Stan would have to do the horse chores that night, cos his arm hurt too much, from the punch Stan have him. He then lies to Stan, saying one of the chores he has to do, is to give the horse a, erm “Happy Photo Finish”...as it were; he said Stan needed to “Take the glue out of the factory”, so to speak, so that the horse could be well rested, and Stan, despite knowing how much Roger lies, and initially saying he wouldn’t do it...ended up stupidly believing Roger’s bullshit, and gave the horse a, erm, “Full release” haha. And the next day, they found the horse acting traumatised, and Stan said they had to get the horse unspooked, cos everything- including keeping his SUV depended on the horse winning the upcoming race; then Roger had an idea, saying: “Luckily I know a guy who might be able to help us. Let’s just pray that, for once, when we get there, he doesn’t turn out to be me” haha. The scene then immediately cuts to Stan, Roger and the horse, standing in the Horse Whisperers building, and Roger says: “Oh crap!”, as the camera pans across to a desk, & one of Roger’s personas is sat behind it, filing his fingernails haha. But luckily, according to Roger, the persona behind the desk isn’t the actual Horse Whisperer, and he says: “Thank god, I’m just his secretary”, which offends the persona behind the desk, and he indignantly replies: “I’m an associate!” haha. It’s such a well executed joke, with a perfect setup, and amazing punchlines, playing on the craziness of Roger’s multiple personas: I mean, it’s got to a point that even Roger isn’t sure, if the person they are going to see, will turn out to be just another one of his many personas haha. I love the way the show occasionally displays its self-awareness, and plays with how they reveal that Roger is usually the person, that one of the other characters, is going to meet; like when Steve joined a “Clowning Academy” and was talking about how great the teacher was meant to be, saying: “The teacher here is supposed to be the most intense and demanding instructor in all of clowning- and shit, it’s Roger, isn’t it, it’s gonna be Roger”...and of course, it bloody was haha. It’s one of only a few repeated/long running jokes, in the show, but they always manage to keep it fresh, and it never gets boring/stale, or feels too repetitive, which is a credit to the writers, obviously; but it also shows how well the characters have been developed, over years, and how strong they are, in that the show can repeat variations of the same joke, numerous times, and it’s always funny. 😀 Anyway, I better leave it there, as this reply is getting very “War and Peace”- in terms of length, and I originally only intended to reply with the quotes from the “Horse Whisperer” episode: but I’ve ended up virtually explaining the whole damn plot of it, even though the vast majority of the people, who watches these ‘American Dad’ clips, will have seen that episode, and they don’t need me explaining the plot haha.
