I liked it. Was a fun film. One thing I will say pros and cons aside, the trailer didn't give away everything to this movie unlike most trailers now days.
The Rock is sort of like Arnold Schwarzenegger in being so recognizable that you see him and not the role he's playing which is almost every Arnold movie.
As someone who grew up with the 90’s & early 00’s superhero films I can certainly agree that the trailer seemed like this film would fit that era more. However, I still always enjoy The Rock and of course Pierce Brosnan & Aldis Hodge so I’ll check it out eventually but I’m not running to the theater to see asap
I will say, the selling point of the movie is that is does have some awesome visuals paired with a pretty ugh plot. Definitely see on a big screen if you can, some of the shots really stuck with me

Justice Society really shouldve been built up in Shazam; there couldve been nods to them in there. Having another superhero team coming out of nowhere in a Universe with the Justice League really kills the world-building. How long have they been around? Were they around during Steppenwolf's Mother conquest? So many unanswered questions
@Cody As a huge comic book fan I am sure I will relish seeing the JSA and specifically Dr Fate, and the Rock playing Black Adam. I can relate to people tired of the genre as I never will be but understand the fatigue. I will say in all genre's I REALLY wish that they would take a class on "less is more" as seriously 75% of the time the entire movie is shown in a trailer when it should be 25% tops.... Thank you as always Cody for always stating your point of view whether we agree or disagree we know your a fan and have real fandom in your heart and we in this house adore you for it.
As a lifelong pro wrestling fan who absolutely loved The Rock growing up, I wish he would kind of expand his horizons with the movies he does. It is probably hard to turn down the money he gets for these action/superhero scripts, but I would love to see him in a more serious role.
@Genshi Takahashivera I agree. Stone cold was better than the rock in wrestling but acting, the edge would go to the rock. A lot of stone cold movies, he seems like his wrestling persona lol. One movie I would recommend that stars Stone Cold is Damaged. I think its on Netflix. The synopsis is that he got sent to jail for killing a man in self defense. The widow of the man he killed paroled him on one condition; to find money for her daughter who needs a heart transplant. He ends up joining an underground fighting tournament to raise money for the daughters transplant. Solid movie in my opinion.
I feel the problem with introducing new characters is that they are expected to explain everything in a 2 hour time frame. Give these guys the ability to film it in its entirety and split it up into multiple movies released in a time period that gives the first part time to breath and bring in the second a couple months after. Otherwise streaming series is the way to go with these well established charecters. In my opinion. You either make a movie that assumes the audience knows it’s characters, or be patient and use the lore that is already written for you and make a solid film with a gripping story. The content is already written for you, just take the time and make it right!
I’m glad to know that Doctor Fate is really good in this! I’m a big fan of the character! Ive been debating about seeing this movie in theaters, but I might just wait for streaming. Great review as always man!

I actually really liked this movie. I honestly thought I was going to hate it but I enjoyed it a lot. Even though we see the Rock everywhere/in everything these days, I truly liked him as this character.
31 days after this movie's wide release in the U.S. and it's already officially released on PVOD digital. That's indicative of something. Checked it out online today... it wasn't _trash_ but yeah, definitely a comic book movie more akin to something we would've gotten in the late 2000s or early 2010s. The villain was meh. Here's hoping the future of DC really does turn around
DCEU films ranked 1. The Suicide Squad (James Gunn) 2. Man of Steel 3. Justice League (Snyder Cut) 4. Batman V Superman (Ultimate Edition) 5. Aquaman 6. Shazam 7. Wonder Woman 8. Justice League (Joss Whedon) 9. Birds of Prey 10. Suicide Squad (2016) 11. Black Adam 12. Wonder Women 1984
I can see why someone would dislike Black Adam as being cliche and redundant but I fucking LOVED IT! I was laughing at almost all the jokes and the action scenes although not original they were a lot fun to watch
I finally saw the movie, and I don’t know why people didn’t like it; it was great! James Gunn should continue with this and give everyone the black Adam vs Superman and being in Shazam!
Couldn’t agree with u more. Only difference is, I’m tired of seeing the Rock everywhere. I have the same feeling about Jason Statham who I used to equally like. It’s the same character over and over again. The only action hero that I never got sick of was a Arnold.
I actually enjoyed it Cody! Totally respect what you’re saying it’s all valid and makes sense! In the end I thought The Rock was good, loved Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, action was alright, in the end it was fun but nothing more than that! So all in all I had a good time with it
Actions sequences... This is why I love Spider-Man and his villains because they are able to come up with new exciting ways for Spider-Man to fight. I'm always excited about the Spider-Man fights cause many are so different. With OP guys you often get the same generic fights over and over.
Yeah. Superpowered hero fight scenes where the characters have superman powers are always boring as shit. Unless it's Man of Steel. But that is the only exception.
@@SuperMurray2009 no black Adam has better action than man of steel by far. And I love man of steel, but black Adam had a more variety of powers to show. It wasn't just black Adam. Doctor fate was great, so was hawkman, cyclone, and atom smasher.
@@mania4270 I don't agree with this assessment at all. Maybe it's just your cup of tea. But it wasn't mine. The CGI was very bad imo, the constant use of slow mo was hella annoying, All the constant destruction doesn't intrigue me, and Black Adam is way too strong for everyone he fights. Also if we get into the action scenes of Hawk Man and Dr Fate they were slightly better but not by much.
@@SuperMurray2009 the cgi didn't bother me because I haven't seen better. How are they gonna render any of this with out CGI. When you watch a Superman or black Adam movie, you have to go full crazy CGI because if not you get weak action like in Shazam 1. There is literally no way to do any of this realistically. But here's the thing, the cgi is better than most other superhero movies. Looks better than the crap in doctor strange or no way home or Thor 4. Also I watched it again, black Adam was totally getting his ass kicked by hawkman. In fact, you can totally argue hawkman got the best of him in the first fight. And black Adam being to powerful is the point. Nobody should be able to stop him. Except superman. This movie had something I haven't seen in a comic book movie since Spiderman 1....the feeling of awe. The feeling that these are gods amongst us. Ever since the dark knight and MCU, every comic book movie tried to explore the "depths" of the hero and take it more seriously. And that worked. But what got lost in all that realism was the cool since of being a hero. Not since a kid have I wanted to be a part of a superhero team so much. I like the focus on cool powers rather than some crappy drama or personal issues the hero has. He's a superhero, his issue should be the plot. Sometimes Batman or Spiderman movies focus so much on the drama that they lack enough action to justify a long length. Honestly this movie reminded me of the time when Hollywood made pure action movies.
I watched Black Adam last night & was thoroughly entertained, having said that I couldn't help thinking what if they replaced Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson's Scorpion King character, well the character similarities....... 🤔🦂😂😉
Yo man I need to find a movie but I can't remember it's name , all I know that it's a slasher and there's a killer clown (If I remember right) .IK Not much of leads but hear this out . What I do remember is that there's a 2nd movie where the last victim is sent to reahbilitation home or something and she has to relive the nightmare again tho at the end the big reveal is , that killer was the nun in the wheelchair .
Yeah this movie was mediocre as fuck. I only watched it because my brother wanted me to go with him. And I really didn't want to at first because why should we give filmmakers a pass for giving us the mediocre Films?
I was actually in the dark until I saw the surprise of the end. I was actually yelling. Then 1 mins into my screaming I realized I was the only one who didn't know lol. Still not bad for DC but you are 100% right, the villian sucked. Forgotten as soon as I saw him. Meh is the word I'd use for the villain.
shouldve just been a jsa movie, we didnt need a black adam solo film, he shouldve been introduced through shazam. the jsa in this film are just kinda there, they're an afterthought, they dont NEED TO BE HERE.
I loved it. The most fun superhero movie of the year so far in my opinion. Definitely better than either of the MCU films so far and for me more enjoyable (and more rewatchable) than The Batman (if though the Batman is a better executed and thought out film).
I thought I was the only person that thought that about The Rock’s personality seems to overshadow every role he plays. I be like The Rock is playing “The Rock” in every movie 😂
Mixed feelings on the movie. I feel like it was cut similar to Morbius. The action was amazing, the cuts. But they wanted us to feel for characters we didnt know about. Some speaking points were weird, like the soldier guy at the beginning, the kinda cringy jokes, and the kid "yelling" at the top of the stairs quietly. Although the action was amazing, I feel it moved to fast and the villian just erupted out of nowhere. I was sad that they killed Dr. Fate, he was just introduced. It felt like I loved the movie, but was mixed on the review. It was cool to see Black Adam not toned down. Loved the movie though, but just mixed on my feelings right now. Although, Better than Love and Thunder
I agree. It was generic and made to a formula that has become tired. The set peices we've seen a hundred times, the kid was annoying as hell. It needed to be gritty and adult, but we got a playground sandbox where The Rock could break things that held no consequences. In a word: awful. I could pull a better script out of my arse.
I've been a fan of the Rock since the late 90's and think his charisma is off the charts, however he has become the king of generic films designed to reach the masses. Unfortunately he doesn't make the types of bad ass films Arnold did like The Terminator, Predator, Total Recall, Commando, Running Man, Conan the Barbarian, ext. Not a lot of R rated, edgier movies for adults. The Rock is more about making films where you can take the whole family. Seems like a great dude but unfortunately I'm not interested in the Rock's brand of films.
Your opinion is your opinion but I do disagree what some of your thoughts on the Black Adam movie. One in particular is that you said that the female character, Cyclone, which is her name, was pushed aside and don't get some attention but I disagree. I think Cyclone did have some shine on the big screen and also the movie gave her a backstory to how she got her powers and became a superheroine. I mean yeah, her and Atom Smasher do seem like they are not that important and should be erased to give Hawkman and Doctor Fate more screen time but I did like Cyclone and Atom Smasher. But anyway, you have your opinions and if that's how you feel, that's how you feel. But in my opinion, I did not have a lot of negatives for Black Adam and I thought it is a good entertaining movie. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
The Rock is so popular and well known to the point where every role he plays, we don’t see his character role, we simply see The Rock.
Also doesn't help that he doesn't even bother doing an accent or anything, just a 5000 Yr old with a modern American accent lol

you should do a video ranking all of the endings in the Halloween movies.
Lol your honesty, I like your humor
You should do a ranking of your favorite Rock movies, that'd be a fun video!
💯💯 so much fun 🔥🔥
31 days after this movie's wide release in the U.S. and it's already officially released on PVOD digital. That's indicative of something. Checked it out online today... it wasn't _trash_ but yeah, definitely a comic book movie more akin to something we would've gotten in the late 2000s or early 2010s. The villain was meh. Here's hoping the future of DC really does turn around
DCEU films ranked
1. The Suicide Squad (James Gunn)
2. Man of Steel
3. Justice League (Snyder Cut)
4. Batman V Superman (Ultimate Edition)
5. Aquaman
6. Shazam
7. Wonder Woman
8. Justice League (Joss Whedon)
9. Birds of Prey
10. Suicide Squad (2016)
11. Black Adam
12. Wonder Women 1984
Cody wearing Black Album shirt while reviewing Black Adam, if you know you know.
perfection
@@KenKopper sad not many caught the sick ass shirt & the cool music
the rock is the rock In every movie he does. not a bad thing. but you don't see black adam. you see the rock
@The Rated R Gamer What was wrong with the mom and kid
2:22 ever seen Faster? He's ruthless in that movie
My theatre add 30 people too and it was silent too
Cyclone 🌀 was the other female character.
Great shirt by the way
Excellent review brother, love the vids man
Couldn’t agree with u more. Only difference is, I’m tired of seeing the Rock everywhere. I have the same feeling about Jason Statham who I used to equally like. It’s the same character over and over again. The only action hero that I never got sick of was a Arnold.
Best bond
Most movies that are released...we've seen before. The comicbook genre is no different from any other movie genre. Still a great movie.
I actually enjoyed it Cody! Totally respect what you’re saying it’s all valid and makes sense! In the end I thought The Rock was good, loved Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, action was alright, in the end it was fun but nothing more than that! So all in all I had a good time with it
This movie feels like it's ripping off everything from the Fox X-Men movies to the MCU Iron Man, doctor strange and black panther movies
The rock blabbered about "blank" showing up in the post credits scene I feel because he knew it wasn't tracking well at the box office
Actions sequences...
This is why I love Spider-Man and his villains because they are able to come up with new exciting ways for Spider-Man to fight. I'm always excited about the Spider-Man fights cause many are so different.
With OP guys you often get the same generic fights over and over.
Yeah but only Spiderman 2 +3 have good Spidey action
Every last movie that I´ve ever watched with the Rock in it, I watch because of his charisma and personality. Definitely not for his acting - lol.
shouldve just been a jsa movie, we didnt need a black adam solo film, he shouldve been introduced through shazam. the jsa in this film are just kinda there, they're an afterthought, they dont NEED TO BE HERE.
I was excited to watch this movie. Then me and all my friends fell asleep a quarter down the film.
Great review, you are good at this.
I loved it. The most fun superhero movie of the year so far in my opinion. Definitely better than either of the MCU films so far and for me more enjoyable (and more rewatchable) than The Batman (if though the Batman is a better executed and thought out film).
Do you like the Austin Powers movies?
There was a scene in the trailer where Adam punches a jet knocking the wing off and I didn't see it in the movie. Overall fun but not really memorable
I know you said you would be getting around to it eventually but man I would love to see your thoughts on "Sons Of anarchy".
I was gonna check this out Sunday to bookend a busy weekend but prob just wait til stream or rent. Not like I was waiting for it
Yeah, this movie feels like a burnout that we've seen over and over and over again.
I agree. It was generic and made to a formula that has become tired. The set peices we've seen a hundred times, the kid was annoying as hell. It needed to be gritty and adult, but we got a playground sandbox where The Rock could break things that held no consequences. In a word: awful. I could pull a better script out of my arse.
12:41 I know what the spoiler is and it seems Rock and WB weren't confident in the film and gave it away hoping people would see it just for that.
All flashy candy with no substance is that what I'm expecting to see
I've been a fan of the Rock since the late 90's and think his charisma is off the charts, however he has become the king of generic films designed to reach the masses.
I haven’t seen the film yet. To me it seems like Superman and Shazam put together.
