I couldn’t figure out why my petunias were getting so laggy when I was deadheading faithfully. Found this video and realized I was simply pulling the dead flower out and leaving the seed pod. Thank you so much for this you have a new fan forever!!!! 💕

I can’t tell you how many videos I came across before your channel that just don’t capture it the way you do. I’ll be subscribing because I need all the help I can get. I moved into a co-op last summer so this has been the first year of container gardening on my deck. I bought a couple HUGE beautiful hanging pots of petunias for a lucky bargain price ($25 each) just before the official growing season started in MN (May 15). I'd been putting off deadheading them until today because I'm a guy and I'm lazy and didn't want to do it wrong. I took a LOT of seed pods out and will give it another going over next Sunday. Hope I didn't wait too late to keep the plant blooming...

Great video, I appreciated the close up and showing the difference between the seed pods and the new blooms. I think I have been taking off the seed pods on some and missing them on others with my petunias and I didn't know that there can be a lot of seed pods without a dying flower on them. It makes a lot of sense that this keeps your petunias alive and thriving because on many different plants including fruits and veg like cucumbers if the seeds or fruit fall off onto the ground the plant dies because it thinks it has served its purpose, which is to spread its seed and make new plants.

I just ran across this video. It is much easier to simply buy one of the many self-cleaning petunias on the market. The petunias in this video are likely the old varieties. I don't have 4 to 5 hours every single day to deadhead ( I have a lot of supertunias on my beds). That's why I have only supertunias.
By the way, petunias almost always need to he cut back around middle of summer when they look tired and scraggly. I cut them back by about half and feed them. They flush back out beautifully in a couple of weeks max.

Great point. That’s why I made the “Supertunias -vs- Petunias” video to inform others that chose not to deadhead about Proven Winners Supertunias. They will save you a whole lot of time. If you enjoy my videos, PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE.

Now I'm looking forward to get home and deadhead my petunias plants properly, thanks for your tutorial Renee.
Just a quick question, what do you do with those seed pods you've cut off? You lose the seeds irretrievably or they can be rescued?
