People dont understand that KOF fans are not Fatal Fury fans and vice versa. Now as far as KOF XV at EVO and stuff, like you said, was not a failure. People do not put things in perspective and thank god you showed the numbers from previous entries. Not a failure. Now regarding it being swapped with COTW, it makes sense. This is bigger than just "cotw getting attention", this is gonna be a huge deal for the whole of SNK. Is it unfortunate? Yeah, BUUUT for the greater good, it just makes sense. COTW has gotten way more attention, hype, discussions ect. than XV and it aint even out yet. This is the push SNK needs. SNK is finally reaching in their bag to bring back their other IPs and even doing something different like the Samsho ARPG, we dont know how itll be but at least their expanding into other things. Like Oda said; FF, Samsho, & AOF are the foundation of KOF so we're gonna be in a period of building them up to eventually get a 16. All KOF fans are SNK fans, but not all SNK fans are KOF fans. I know folks that still play games like last blade. Great vid Chris
Plus not only that, with Vice and Mature being the last of XV's pass, then I think it would be best for SNK to focus on a pay off for a XVI. That's why I think putting KoF on hold till they're ready to start up planning for a new base roster and stages, season passes, marketing etc.
This right here. Any SNK fan knows that KOF started as a celebration of SNK games. With SNK finally making a well-deserved resurgence, it would be a good idea to let KOF take a break for a while, give some other IPs like Fatal Fury a chance to shine, then bring it back with a renewed appreciation for it. With as many types of fighters in the SNK stable, there's bound to be something there that can capture people now aside from just KOF. And I'm saying this as a fan and a stan of the KOF series. I'm not at all surprised that COTW is taking the main spot. Why shouldn't it? This is the perfect vehicle to show newcomers what SNK is all about. Plus, SNK has always had a deep love and appreciation for its community, shown by how much they endorse and support tournaments EVERYWHERE. The community has been putting KOF on its back for decades, and this year's EVO will be no different. You will see XV at a side tournament, and it's likely gonna bring in good numbers. And SNK has faith in that.
From my point of view, KOFXV is just reaching its best state. BUT it's guilty of doing something many fighting games do nowadays: not considering casual players' needs. Even though KOFXV is very generous in story content, it's missing important single player modes like survival and time trial. Also, it doesn't have local rankings anymore ("my rankings") nor character progress sheets... and so on. It even has less stages and unlockables than KOFXIV, which had an AMAZING image gallery with beautiful Shinkiro and others' artwork from KOF94 to the very latest. You unlocked that just by playing and playing. It was so much fun and old-school-feeling! I know many people who just want to play KOFXV home and spend a lot of time unlocking stuff or just competing with family and friends to beat local rankings. The casual audience is HUGE and I'm sure taking care of KOFXV's lacking single player content can give it a new life in that "other" way. I'm sure willing to pay money for a last DLC pack with the mentioned missing game modes, stages, a couple more characters, their endings, an image gallery, and costumes.
just slap them modern control like sf6, and put some story scene choosing different characters within story mode like mortal kombat, that casual players needs fulfilled.
KOF, FF, AOF, and Samurai Shodown are series that I’m so enamored with. I agree that SNK has to capitalize on their other fighters and honestly it’s coming to fruition. Same thing with Capcom, give us a new Rival Schools, Dark Stalkers, Power Stone, Plasma Sword etc. I’m an avid fighting game player and I’m also super hyped for a new VF game. I’d venture to say fighting franchises are making an abundant resurgence. Love the video.
This is my perspective as someone that's always been a casual fan of snk fighting games and that only really tried to learn kof with XV: It is understandable that fatal fury is taking the spotlight. The shiny new thing will always do better than the previous thing. Evo wants to reach the highest numbers possible in terms of players and viewers, so dropping the game with the fewest numbers makes logical sense. I do believe both kof and cotw would both be in there if kof was more popular. Now why isn't it more popular with casuals? Because it is actually one of the harder games to get into nowadays regardless of what veterans say. Games like strive, granblue, and street fighter have made it easier than ever for players to pick up their games as quickly as possible. Even tekken, another really hard game, has made it easier to pick up the game with the various modes dedicated to teaching you the game. In contrast, kof has stayed relatively traditional. The various mechanics, the jump angles in neutral, the perception that kof inputs for specials is really hard, and yes, the fact that you need to pick up 3 characters. These all cause brand new players to feel like kof requires too much time and effort to get good with. These are all reasons I've heard people say personally to me when I've tried to get them to play the game (plus the graphics, but I'm not counting that for this discussion). Again, I really tried to learn XV, and I got decent at it (got to rank 21 from not knowing at all what I was doing at the start). And I can say that it was fun, but it did require a lot of effort, so people's perception of the game aren't exactly wrong. Cotw is getting a lot of more attention from casuals because people do actually like snk characters and they do want to play the games. The only problem is that kof has been the only way to do that for several years now. If people are SNK fans but not kof fans, it becomes an issue. Luckily, cotw will probably bring in a lot of new players, so the next kof will likely do a lot better. Ultimately, as long as snk is doing well, everyone wins since more games will keep being made.
I am hoping that of the 14th with the EVO announcements, Oda announces officially an open beta or demo for COTW (along with character announcements). With April three months away, SNK are fools to not make that announcement.
If that dude was trying sounds like smartass cause if he is he's not. Kof and fatal fury are very different, the gameplay, timeline, and story even tho they have the same charterers in the game they're not the same. Idk if he actually even tried playing either to tell the difference
I hope that KoF has some news in 2025. Maybe KoF 16 teaser or Kyo in SF6 season 3. Don't get me wrong I'm excited for City of the Wolves but KoF is my favorite. Hope the break isn't too long.
Main stage games for EVO should all be under 5 years old. No more SF3 or MVC2 robbing slots from other games, that deserve more attention. Also MK1 shouldn't be there either. It's numbers are just as low as KOFXV. It's pretty much a dead game with the fan base returning to MK11.
Funny thing is that Japanese title for Fatal Fury 1 is Fatal Fury : King of Fighters. Still remember because i rented a bootleg version for the Snes back in the day.
It sucks but the reason Kof doesn’t do good these days is because of how hard it is, the game has so much depth and it’s a lot to pick up, on top of it the games are very bland looking especially these last 2 entries and it just lacks anything that’ll pull casuals in
My problem is why is KOF 15 gone when it is still new and HAS a player ase still actively supporting it and there weren't any real controversies or backlash to its existence while MORTAL KOMBAT (N)ONE OVER HERE is getting back on stage to appear pretty much Sonic Fox exclusively. People are straight up done with MK. Netherrealm has turned into a laughing stock as have its players and I MEAN that. I'm not some salty SNK or Capcim fanboy, I'm a salty MIDWAY fan from '94 who GREW UP with MK 1 and 2 on home console. I dressed up as Scorpion when I was 6 until I was 10 for Halloween. I BEGGED my mother to make me that costume. I owned and played every MK game up until 1. So when I say "why is it up there" I ****ing mean it. No one wants it.
I mean. "No real controversies/backlash" I feel like completely ignored that it's ranked matchmaking was broken for over an entire year - as in literally you couldn't match with people not that it kind of sucked. It instantly became a discord fighter and people posted daily about it, with an entire website dedicated to how long SNK has screwed up. I still play it every day practically because I only play with friends so none of that affected me. But for a lot of people that was a huge turn off and killed the games hype train. SNK knows they need a new hype train to do with CotW what KoF ended up not being able to do. Hence why they're all in. Either way EVO main stage is a name recognition/pay to win thing anyway. It was never going to be the best ones, just the ones that get random viewers. Unfortunately random twitch viewers don't care about KoF
I for one don't understand why SNK wasted time and resources making a new Fatal Fury game after all of this time... We don't need it because most of the characters are in King Of Fighters!
At 14:44 that was supposed to be Fatal Fury COTW that was mentioned, not KOF XV.

❤❤❤
If anything they should've removed Mortal Kombat 1 instead. No, really, what the hell is that game doing there?
true as that may be, Mortal Kombat still has all the name recognition
That's what a big FG name does to you
10:13 Blazing Strike strays lol
Another good video my dear friend

12:25 Everyone in DBFZ play the exact same more or less.
You're hedging when you say more or less. So you don't really believe that yourself.
Fatal Fury and King of Fighters are 2 totally different games...
do people actually know these games or not?
