Man, what a badass way to end the first season: having the oldest threat of the show and the newest threat of the show face off against each other in combat to the death.

You've got to have astronomically huge balls to pick a fight with a creature that's 300 million years ahead of you in terms of evolution and completely beat the sh*t out of it. That's why the Gorgonopsid was my favorite creature in Primeval.
Well I get what your saying but these are still animals. The gorgonopsid was doing all this out of hunger/instinct and the future predator was just defending its offspring like most animals do.

I just love how the future predator moves. So fast and maneuverable.
But that's also what screws the Future Predator over. Even if it is fast, that does nothing to help it penetrate the Gorgonopsid's thick hide. After all the slashes and gouges done by the Future Predator to the Gorgonopsid, the only actual damage is a missing eye and a minor limp. Meanwhile, the Gorgonopsid lands _two hits_ (the bite and the crushing fall) and the Future Predator is K.O'd. Even before that, a minor headbutt knocked it out. Fast, yet too weak.
When I was really little, my dad use to watch this tv show at night, and I would sneak behind him to watch with him, this creature scared me a lot when I was a kid and was marked deep in my head I screamed at some point during the shoe and my that heard me, smiled at me and put me on his knee and said there is nothing o be scared of and I wasnt scared of the creature anymore, I watched the whole episode with my dad that night. I m thankful for that, as it is one of the few memories I still have about my dad and just seeing this very scene I watched togheter with my dad many many years ago, brings a smile on my face and I feel warmer in my heart.

What i loved about Primeval was that despite Future Predator being the show mascot, it was never overpowered. Despite being super fast and relativly inteligent, Predators were rather slim, lightly build, uncapeble to tackle animals outside of their own size. Here it is perfectly showcased, Predator up unyil that point was extremly feared and deadly, but it litteraly stood no chance in this fight, it was unable to do any serious damage, outside of blinding one of Gorgonopsid's eyes and the moment it was biten, it was basicly over.
It was putting up a very good fight though, had the Gorg not gotten a bite it would have lost.

Gorgonopsids are no longer considered to be mammal-like reptiles - as a group they are classified as Therapsids, a form of proto-mammals. Not reptiles at all.

I know they were like ' thank god he killed it '. Honestly, if it came down to it..id prefer to deal with the gorgonopsid. That other creature looks super crazy asf. A human has no chance against something like that; as we found out in that scene right before the fight. Damn! Plus..the gorgonopsid only seems to kill when hungry or threatened. Since the fight between the Tyrannosaurus and the Spinosaurus in Jurassic Park 3, this is the best battle between two apex predators I have ever seen.
The Gorgonopsid's brute force and boorish aggression against Future Predator's cunning and agility.
To be fair I thought that this wouldn't have aged well and that I would have been disappointed, but this is still actually pretty good CGI!

I love how despite being a fictional creature, they employ real world science behind the Future Predators fighting style.
It's not just a super fast, super evolved bat from the future; but it fights like every other mammal in known existence. It relies on speed, but can use it's minimal strength when needed. It slams the Gorgonopsid's head into the ground as it climbs back in, goes for the eyes and throat etc etc.
Speed and Brains.
Vs.
Durability and Brawn.
This fight could've gone in its favour had the Gorgonopsid not used it's sheer size to crush it.
I mean, that's also another reason for why Gorgonopsid still wins. The Future Predator being faster means it simply isn't as tough as the Gorgonopsid. What the Gorgonopsid lacks in agility, it more than makes up for in sheer durability. Even after the Future Predator slashed at its stomach and throat, it still didn't actually do enough damage to cause anything more than a limp. The moment the Gorgonopsid lands a clean hit on it, though... game over.
Last note, but the Gorgonopsid also had brains. It might not look as humanoid as the Future Predator, but therapsids as mammalian relatives should've already been relatively comparable in intelligence. The entire point of the Gorgonopsid's victory was that it actually _took advantage_ of the Future Predator's desperation to stay on the Gorgon's back; on the ground, it could scurry around quickly. But when it climbed on the Gorgon's back, it was trapped with nowhere to go once the Gorgon exploited its own bulk to crush it.
he Gorgon already knew that the Future Predator was a pain to deal with when it was free to dart around on the floor, so this means that the Future Predator being desperate to cling to its back actually made things _easier_ for the Gorgonopsid. The Future Predator could've instead won if it wore the Gorgon down over time with guerrila attacks by darting around on the ground instead of foolishly trapping itself on the Gorgon's multi-ton bulk. By desperately trying to tear through the Gorgon's thick hide to end the fight quickly instead of taking time to fully exploit its superior speed, the Future Predator actually signed its own death warrant lol.
The only reason the gorgonopsid was able to crush the predator was because it managed to grab it by the arm... The predator likely would have won otherwise.
@@killbotunit4345 Nah. The Predator was barely doing much damage in singular strikes. It might be faster, but that does nothing when the Gorgonopsid has a tough hide that the Future Predator could only pierce with repeated claw strikes. The Future Predator was also stupid enough to think that climbing on top of the Gorgon's back would be advantageous, when in fact it actually limited the Future Predator's movement and caused it to be trapped with nowhere to run when the Gorgon flipped onto its back. Checkmate from the start.
Childhood is when you root for the Future Predator, growing up is when you realize Gorgonopsid makes more sense.

Always felt the fight speeds were so fast, but I think that’s because this series is so unique and brilliant
Makes it feel more brutal, imo.
Seems indeed quite fast, on the other hand many other movies or series have fights way too sluggish / slow. Just think about our actual predators, no one without knowledge expects a bear to be as fast as he is - especially when he has to fight. Their reflexes and agility is crazy and it must be truly scary being hunted down by one while you know exactly that there is no escape. And when you realize that they eat you alive instead of killing you first like many other predators...it gets even worse :P
I didn't notice it at first but the Gorgonopsid actually grabbed the Future Predators arm before rearing back and smashing it against it's weight. I imagine otherwise it wouldn't have been able to pin it since the Future Predators movements were so fast and otherwise unnatural. Overall 10/10 for the animation and sound work, I found this to be by far my favorite animation sequence.
That's what always terrified me. The fact that the predator was so fast and so agile it did so much damage to the gorgo if its arm hadnt been grabbed by the gorgo predator would've won and the future altered in unimaginable ways

Yes, I agree too. I'm guessing that was the only tactic the Gorgonopsid could think of, because virtually nothing else would have worked. And also, it would never have faced anything like the Future Predator before, because they are from completely opposite points in time. To put it bluntly, the Gorgonopsid must have thought "What the hell is this thing?" That goes for the Future Predator as well for that matter. Plus, the Predator had a sona system in it's head, which detects heart beats and other things like that. As far as I'm aware, no existing creature in the past had any type of sona system. So that gives it a more advanced way of seeing than other creatures past and present. If the Gorgonopsid didn't do what it had, the Future Predator would have overpowered and possibly even killed it. What made it even more brutal was the fact that she was a mother, and the other carnivore was eating her babies, so then she was driven INSANE and used her instincts to try and stop the Gorgo, which she very nearly did. The one advantage the Gorgo had, was outsmarting the faster and smaller carnivore, biting down on the arm and crushing it under it's weight.
Lesson learned? Never mess with a creature that has appeared somewhere in the walking with series

This just goes to show: the predators, even the s1 and 2 ones which evolved naturally and were deadlier than the engineered s3 ones, they're not invincible. They're evolved to be fast, not bulky. They'd probably be able to take down a Trex because of how cumbersome it is, but the gorgonopsid was just the right amount of speed and power to take it down.
Yeah t rex would be way less agile with only 2 legs
problem a t-rex maybe a little clums but one good bite or one stomp and it's over the future predators have to just deal with giant bugs not dinosaurs that way tougher and more or less deadlier than a future bat now if the said t-rex was going head to head with a pack maybe and really the only thing that's dangerous to a t-rex is another t-rex

if the survival of the two baby future predators is what changed the timeline, then what was different during this battle? was it the mother predator waking up? was it the very battle to begin with?
We think it's actually the presence of the Predator, which should never have came through to the Permian, hence why the Anomalies cause time to become delicate.
Who cares, there dead anyway due to the Permian Extinction event.
The weird thing is that the present was changed even though Cutter and some of the soldiers found the aftermath of this so nothing should have changed.

@@CreaturaVioleta Who knows, maybe the remains they found in the first episode were those of these soldiers... but the events of this episode didn't quite happen as they did in this "first" instance of the time loop. Perhaps in the first iteration of the loop the Gorgonopsid was able to kill all of the future predators children before engaging in battle with it, therefore causing a small but noticeable change when it didn't in this episode.
You gotta give props to Primeval for being one of the few works to portray gorgonopsids.

Honestly this is a fight that really holds up well in this show, even several years later I still find it cool.
Gorgo got lucky here. If the Future Predator hadn't expended so much energy rushing to defend it's babies, and attacking the two soldiers, it probably would have won. As it was it was bodying Gorgo pretty hard for most of the fight .

I think the damage was only superficial, the gorgo was much bigger, more durable and more robust than the future predator.
Plus the future predator gets practically one shotted at the beginning of the fight: 0:49
“Energy” didn’t really seem to have much to do with it. The future predator was pumped up and quick on its feet throughout the whole fight.
Yeah no. No it would not have. Most of the damage the future predator did to it were scratches that didn't look that deep. The best it was able to do is take out an eye.

Nunca llegue a ver está serie, pero se nota que tiene batallas de criaturas absolutamente increíbles, está de aquí me ha gustado, sin duda una batalla sangrienta y veloz; Gorgonopsido vs Depredador del futuro, uno es un animal prehistórico famoso repleto de fuerza y otro es un murciélago super evolucionado del máximo futuro, súper ágil.
Me pregunto quién ganaría en una pelea entre el Depredador del futuro y una de las criaturas de la película "Un lugar en silencio", o mejor aún, que haría contra un Xenomorfo. *Se imaginan una batalla campal entre estás 3 monstruosidades absolutamente letales* ¿Quién ganaría?.
Esta sin duda es la mejor batalla de criaturas de la serie, de lejos.
Te recomiendo que le des una oportunidad, cuando era pequeño la veía por los dinosaurios más que otra cosa, pero ahora, casi 10 años despues la he vuelto a ver con muchas más horas de visionado de muchos tipos de series y películas a mis espaldas y mucho más pensamiento crítico, y lo cierto es que me parece una buena serie, ha envejecido bien y sin ser obviamente una obra maestra, entretiene. Bien es cierto que la nostalgia seguramente me haga verla mejor de lo que es. Para mí, la mejor dentro del género de dinosaurio/cristuras(que conozca, aunque tampoco hay mucha competencia) junto con Terra Nova, la cual he encontrado más floja revisionándola, aunque también me encanta.
Respecto a tu pregunta, sólo conozco al xenomorfo y al depredador, si tuviera que poner mi dinero en uno seguramente sería el primero un poco a mi pesar 🤣

There's an interesting theory surrounding that.
Apparently, Nigel rolled out of the way and ran through the anomaly winding up in the Cretacous era.
Which is supposedly how Sea Monsters started; considering we see Nigel on the run from a giant theropod dinosaur before diving into the sea. And we know that the Giganotosaurus went back through the anomaly periodically during the Primeval episode.
Maybe it was intentional of the directors to have it happen in such a coincidental sequence, but it seems too suspicious to be false.
Plus for the fact there's no blood splatter where Nigel was meant to have been 'Eaten'.
Actually for 2007 and for a TV series, this was pretty high quality and from what I remember did cost quite a bunch (note the fluidity of movement in this scene for example). Only thing that makes this look "low-budget" is the "blurriness" of the models and their relatively low-res textures, which got better over the course of the series.
I had my gripes with this show, but this scene is incredible. The future predator's design is brilliant.

I like to think there’s a message in here somewhere, specifically about the evolutionary process: Ultimately, the future will always bow down to the past.
Or at the very least, that "newer" does not always mean "better". After all, the Gorgonopsid's general body plan of four upheld legs with claws, a bulky body and crushing jaws can be seen in _many_ of its mammal descendants today (wolves, bears, big cats, etc). However, when you look at real-life examples of the Future Predator's general body plan in nature... yeah, just because it looks cool does not mean that it works.

Why does the future predator have superpowers? That speed and strength is unreal
Most likely it's evolved a secondary energy releasing chemical alongside ATP, maybe something closer to a nitrogen based explosive that it uses to massively up how fast it can burn it's energy. That combined with a better nerve structure for reaction speed and a better prediction algorithm in the brain should be enough to get similar results to what we're looking at.
Yet the Gorgonopsid, which existed 250 million years ago, killed the future predator babies and turned said adult future predator into a rag doll.
@@thesenate974 yeah, it's basically Ironman trying to take down the Hulk. Brute force isn't good against lots of faster, smarter things, but it does wonders against small numbers of faster, smarter things, especially faster smarter things that only really hunted other fast-ish, smart things.
Even though the effects haven't aged well and the last two seasons where a bit mediocre, I was so invested in these characters the show just stayed amazing.
