    No spoilers! Man, this movie was great! And tense! It's just long, and for movies these days it's a welcome change. Great sound, great script, and from my perspective it hits all the buttons in terms of human relationships, commitments, race against time, sympathy, empathy, close calls, etc, and I think for the most part it was realistic. And finally, the use of potty language was kept to an absolute minimum. I say Bravo to that!! I would pay to see this on a giant screen, as long as it had an intermission. 👍

    • @srmll6217
      @srmll6217 2 года назад +17

      An intermission might ruin the momentum but I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID. I'M STILL TENSE! Superbly crafted: One of the best "disaster", "human relationship" "non-political" "inspiring" films I've seen in years. Great script, great cast, great production design, just GREAT all around!

      This has got to be the WORST fake disaster drama movie EVER. Almost nothing but over-acted drama, with rapid endless switching from one actor to another. VERY few snippets of cheap Computer Generated Images which are UNREALISTIC and UNBELIEVABLE. Total waste of time. Mostly adored by the mothers and friends of the actors and producers involved with it.

    I think one thing we should all remember is that in catastrophes of this scale, it is impossible for any government to save everyone. They will try, but more than likely fail. We should all be ready to save ourselves. The fewer people the government HAS to save, the more that will be saved.

      Excellent observation. Of course it’s easy to critique from an armchair - but some of the chief characters don’t seem to have much common sense. . .
      I can’t guarantee l would be rational in their place but screaming her husband’s name into the storm after he dives in to find another boat seems ludicrous. How could he possibly hear her - and she suggested going back (swimming?) to the barrier!

      Most governments around the world can’t even handle a homeless crisis so a catastrophic climate crisis yea there’s no way they could handle anything of this magnitude but we still pay our taxes! Look what the American government did for the East Palestine Ohio train disaster, that town is basically homeless but the government can send 100’s of billions over seas for a proxy war!

      Absolutely. I'm just saddened that in the theaters they showed a an edited-down version (110 minutes) which is astonishingly bad. You'd think a good movie remains good if you cut a lot of stuff out, but you lose a lot of character background, emotional impact ... it's a crying shame.
      According to wikipedia, this full version wasn't even released on UK tv. That's really slapping the entire team, actors, director, technicians and the lot, in the face.

    I remember watching this show on television in Canada, don't know when though. The frustration of waiting for the following evening to watch the next episode drove me crazy, thankfully it was only four nights. This was so much better being able to watch all the way through and being able to take pause it when I needed to. Watching it a second time around was just as good as the first time, actually was better than the first time. No commercials and a superb TV movie in one show. Now I know it is here, I will be watching it again. Anybody thinking of watching it, get the popcorn out, cast the movie to your television and get comfortable. British TV at its best.

The movie did frighten me... and you are right about the opening scenes [kept me on the edge of my seat throughout] Mom dying had me in tears right off the bat. Remember from childhood Hurricane Camille when exactly that happened, and Katrina, too. Authorities tell everyone to have tools to break out attic windows or a saw to make a hole in roofs to escape rising waters. Storm Surge evacuation from Irma- and one must leave in time... because there is NO ONE who can rescue you. One Hurricane Season a giant Frog the size of my hand came up through the plumbing UPSTAIRS and escaped out the Toilet! I required both hands to capture it!

    I really liked that haunting voice in the scenes telling me what the writer wanted me to feel at those moments. It was well placed and effective. Thank you for this video. The only point that bothered me was why the main characters didn't know they could blow up the barriers (as plan B) if opening the barriers manually (as plan A) didn't work. I will wonder about that for hours I know. ie. Robert Carlyle's dad didn't have to die. Looks, to me, like the smart guys and the "system' fu*****ked up twice: once when they didn't listen to the old man and the second time by sending him to die saving their incompetent/ego driven lives. Good video; but. being told that the heroes tend to be the ones who die and the stupid rule the world is not the ending I was after

    Why didn’t the stupid people just walk a few blocks north or south o the Thames? The flood zone was pretty much confined to a few blocks north and south of the river according to the graphics.

    The run time of this film is 3:04:15. Wikipedia lists it as 99 minutes and doesn'tt even mention Tom Hardy, Robert Carlyle and David Suchet as cast members. It grossed only about $8,000 USD and was supposedly released in the US May 1, 2020, which leads me to believe it was never released here in the US as May 1, 2020 was a month and a half into the Covid pandemic and nothing would have been open. Does anyone have any information about this? I'm a film fan and am just curious.

    TOM HARDY IS NOT IN THIS MOVIE!! In spite of his name being clearly stated in the title of this video- Tom Hardy is not even listed in the credits. Nothing against the movie. Just warning people that watched this like I did thinking Tom Hardy was in it. Great seeing Robert Carlyle again though 😊

    The British never fail me. I just want to talk about how well done this movie was in every way. I love the concern of the higher-ups versus those below them. It's funny that in American films. It's always the opposite way around. The leaders are the ones that have to be convinced of the dangers and those Underneath them have to try and convince the leaders of the dangers. I enjoyed the the characters and their acting, the swiftness of the movie during boring parts, the storyline and also the cinematography. It's just one of those movies that hit me in all the right places. Was not a typical disaster film in any way.

      Don’t forget Mississippi. The eye went right over Waveland and a few miles away Bay St Louis had a 42ft surge. They estimate over 40 tornadoes hit that area. Also from the Bay to Gulfport looked like a bomb went off as far as two miles inland. Many people in MS were lost but because it’s not as dramatic as NOLA the MSM didn’t cover it. That plus the misinformation and outright lies they told is when I stopped watching tv “news”.
      Btw, I’m from Slidell, LA which is just north of NOLA and a few miles west of Waveland.
