I was stationed in Germany for 3 years and I just loved the Christmas markets! During the week I would hang out at the one in Mannheim and go to the other towns on the weekend. There are so many and they are all unique. So much fun!

“If you don’t like German food…” if you’re at a Christmas Market in Germany and don’t like German food, you’re in the wrong country 🤣🤣There’s no way I’d have any other food. I miss Christmas in Germany.

Hahahaha! Love it! I always wondered, why there are so many vendors selling international food. And they are there year after year, so somebody is buying this food;) oh well, people must like different things ;)

Oh Marta, once again you've taken me down memory lane. The Christmas Market in the Hamburger Dom was a wonderland for me and my cousins in the early '50's, such wonderful sights, scents and taes. We have a German Christmas Market here which my grandchildren love but I know it's a pale shadow of what we had back then. Would you believe not one of them here is authenticily German, they're all franchises and none of them are German.

Oh sorry to hear that. But on the other hand I am glad that the grandchildren like it so much. Maybe I should get into organising such events abroad. That would be so much fun!

There is nothing as magical as Germany at Christmas. As a child, (my father was stationed at Baden-Baden) I loved the Black Forest markets...wish there were comparable seasonal traditions in North America!

I've been to the one in Nuremberg in the old city - it was wonderful. The rectangular
lebkuchen covered in chocolate .... WOW. I was amazed how the glühwein tasted differently in many of the small towns I visited -- all good. A local Lutheran High School in Concordia, Missouri had it's 3rd Christmas Market this weekend -- I was planning to go -- but was sick.

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ a Christian religious celebration, veering away from this main purpose defeats the purpose of this important event. Pity.

Do you know by chance why during the Nazi time Christmas markets were shut down?

Yes, because Nazis though that those are pagan winter celebration.
