Hey Matt! A trick I do is to rinse my razor after I am done with my shave, I spray liquid shower cleaner on them and allow to sit for a few minutes. I rinse again and dry with a micro fiber washcloth. It works great! The shower cleaner is designed for all sorts of metals, so you dont have to worry about the finishes being damaged! It removes any soap residue left over! I also use a polishing cloth to buff to a nice sheen! I use blade oil to lubricate occasionally as well! When I clean a razor, I use Dawn Powerwash! It gets into the tight areas. I use a denture brush because it has a large side and a smaller side head. It works perfectly! Thanks for sharing your secrets! JimG
Hi Matt, An excellent video and reminder, particularly for vintage razors, that a little bit of time spent maintaining the razor will keep it in the best condition and working perfectly
I use a toothbrush to clean my razor. I find I get better results if I cut the bristles down a bit with a pair of scissors. I use Fantastic cleaner and it work very well.
Hi Matt, just a suggestion: Why not include in the kit, a new toothbrush suitable in softness, for cleaning razors, and a simple plastic carrying case?
@@RazorEmporium No, just a case for the kit that includes brush, lube, cleaning solution and cloth. That way, the entire kit will be easily stored with all parts together, ready to go on the road in a DOP Kit, if needed. Ideally, the box would have holders for each, so they cannot move about during travel, and should also have holes in it, so the brush can dry while stored. Just an idea to consider. LOVE RE's products and vids! Kind Regards, Dave
Great informative video - as usual! I really appreciate your honesty and forthrightness. Your assembling a simple kit like this is a great idea and a thoughtful convenience for customers. (Too bad it isn't made in Germany, or you could have slipped the "You know the Germans always make good stuff." line into your spiel.)
Thnx Matt.Q: what is your recommended way to clean between the plates of the adjustable like fatty or slim? That area get debris trapped between the plates. I for One clean my razors after every use. I’ve been using pipe dills. If you have an easier way to do it wip it on me.? Wish I would have known about your cleaning kit. I use foaming hand soap it resolves residue fairly well. I hear you, but the moment the price changes, the video is now out of date. We always have the link the product in the description of the video, it's best just to click and see.
Well, if nothing else, we appreciate your honest as to what the kit is comprised of. IMHO, anyone who doesn't know what Mineral Oil is, should not hold sharp objects! lol.
Bravo... As for me, I've got ALL that stuff around the house. You'd be surprised I think how many just don't EVER clean their razor. I remember picking up my grandpops and dads old DE razor and seeing how grungy nasty soap scummy those were. Nope, not for me. Gotta clean it once in a while....
Can you say again the name of this butterfly razor? Does it only exist in the vintage world? I am smitten with the Parker 99R; someone recommended the Rockwell T2 but not for $150. Can you recommend any other butterfly razors that are current? Thanks.
This is a Gillette 1950's Fatboy razor in our prospector finish. They surprass any butterfly razor on the market today. We sell tons so check out our site.

@@DavidEckert-n5i Thank you for the warning. While I don't have any plated razors, it's a very good point to bring up. CLR is not fooling around! I was more curious about if Matt's solution had any mineral deposit effect. Thanks again!
If razor does not need repairs, soak in Barbasol, scrub w soap (Dawn) and water, soak in alcohol, dry and polish with polishing cloth, lube w mineral oil and finally polish with clean dry cloth.
that’s pretty cool I know from your previous videos you said you wife is a nurse is that where the blue health care color comes from ha ha great looking kid
Might as well call it snake oil instead of mineral oil. I have numerous vintage razors, over 60 years old, never took any special care of it, just rinse off the soap residue and they still look like new
I have always said the Gillette never put oil on these; but there are die hard enthusiasts who want to take extra special care of their razors or hear slight squeaking noises or mechanical sounds and want to ensure that nothing is being damaged. I've been completely transparent that it is simply mineral oil repackaged.
And if you have more than a couple vintage razors (like some of us do), an even better option is to get an ultrasonic cleaner. You can use a little bit of that cleaning solution + hot water in an ultrasonic and dispense with the toothbrush entirely! Ultrasonics are very gentle and I use them on all my razors.
Bought both and they perform fine. Small bottles take up less space in the drawer.
Great stuff, you folks in the U.S. are well looked after for Traditional Shaving supplys with R.E. 👍
I can say that the RE cleaning cloth is worth its weight in gold! It works wonders in bringing back the original luster of my vintage razors!

Great tip!
I make the same concoction and keep it in a spray bottle. I also use this formula in my ultrasonic cleaner.

Great video as usual. Was a pleasure to meet you in person yesterday!
Thanks! You too!
Great vid Matt. Nice combo in kit. Agree with a small amount of maintenance and care will win the day.
Cheers
Those polishing cloths are superb. I use gun oil as a lubricant...and I don't have a gun!

Do modern 3piece razors require thread lubricating?
No
What's the ratio on the sanitizing bottle with alcohol and soap I believe you said?
Super top secret classified information 🤣🤣 just experiment at home if you're making your own
@RazorEmporium 😅 I don't think it's classified lol I will try and make some with some rubbing alcohol and some soap 🧼
Thanks Matt for another great video! And thanks for putting together/selling a care kit. How often do you suggest using it?
A few times a year

Cool!! Can this do anything about mineral deposits that might form in the nooks of a razor? Sort of CLR does?
Not that we have ever seen
CLR might be okay if you put it on, rub and rinse quickly. Don’t allow a razor to soak in it. It will take the plating off.

What oil do U use for lubricating ?
Mineral
I just soak in alcohol, and mineral oil after. If I'm really in doubt I'll use Barbasol before the alcohol. That my secret recipe.
